🎯REALISTIC GOAL SETTING FOR EQUESTRIANS🎯

As equestrians, we are always putting pressure on ourselves to achieve goals and be as good as we can be for our horses. But, as we know with horses, it’s not always just as simple as setting a plan and being able to stick to it - anything can happen.

So we thought we’d share with you our 5 top tips for setting realistic goals, without putting too much unnecessary pressure on yourself. 👇🏻

1️⃣Set flexible timelines.
Instead of saying, “I’ll compete by June,” aim for, “I’ll work towards competing in the summer,” so you can adjust if something doesn’t quite go to plan, and again you don’t add pressure that you don’t need.

2️⃣Focus on progress, not perfection.
Celebrate small wins like improving your horse’s transitions or jumping a smoother show jumping round than your last outing - every little improvement helps towards long term success!

3️⃣Include your horses physical health in your goals.
Make sure you plan in things like physio treatments or dentistry etc so that you can keep on top of them and ensure they are feeling their best.

4️⃣Have back up plans.
If a competition or goal doesn’t happen, move to something else, like improving groundwork or working on your straightness, then push the original goal back to a date that feels more achievable (it’s not a race).

5️⃣Prioritize training.
Remember that the reason you’re riding is to get yourself and your horse to be the best you can be, and if that requires more training, then so be it. It will be much more worth it in the end if you concentrate on getting the basics first.

For most goals in riding, straightness is key!🔑

What can a lack of straightness affect? 🤔

From the subtle changes, such as being unable to move forward in a straight line, to drifting over a fence whilst jumping or simply just finding it harder to bend more on one rein than the other, a lack of straightness can have more serious consequences in the long term.👇🏻

💥 Balance - this can be effected because uneven weight distribution can cause your horse to lean or find it harder to sit on their hind legs, making it harder to move efficiently and in balance.

💥Even muscle growth - if you, as a rider, are repeatedly sitting off to one side, your horse is going to struggle to build up muscle in that side of their body, resulting in uneven muscle growth.

💥Physical longevity - if your horse is compromising from uneven weight distribution, it will eventually start taking its toll on their back and hind legs which will in turn reduce the likelihood of a long and healthy ridden career.

💥Horse AND rider back problems - Not only will the horse suffer, but if we as riders are constantly riding one-sided, it will negatively impact us physically making us more and more crooked, increasing the likelihood of back pain which results in us compensating by over-using different parts of our bodies.

We are not saying that our horses are all naturally perfect, but we can take responsibility for improving their physical health and performance and your health and performance too!

Common FAQ’s about the Equiseat Aid.

💥How do I know which leg to wear the Equiseat Aid on? (There are a few ways to look at this).
- The opposite leg to the way your saddle slips
- The stronger leg/the leg you grip up with
- If your hips turn to the left, wear it on your right (or vice versa)
(For more help, watch our reels, head to the website or drop us a message)

💥 Can children wear the Equiseat Aid?
Yes! We have a kids range in a choice of pink or navy.
The earlier your child starts wearing it, the better their habits will be from a young age and the easier it is to remove a bad habit.

💥 How do I fit the Equiseat Aid?
Message the circumference of the widest part of your thigh and go to our website for a guide and a video of how to measure for an Equiseat Aid.

💥 How long before I start seeing an improvement?
A lot of the time, results come instantly but sometimes it can take a few rides for your horse to get used to it.
For long-term improvements it can take just 6 weeks of regular use for you to build up your muscle memory!

Straightness in riding isn’t just about the horse!

As a rider, if we are straight ourselves, there are so many benefits! Here are our top 4:

1️⃣ Balance and stability.
A straight, aligned body helps you stay centered, making it easier for you to ride and for your horse to carry you.

2️⃣ Clear communication.
Being straight ensures your aids are precise, so your horse understands what you’re asking without confusion, which makes it easier for you too.

3️⃣ Prevents asymmetry.
Straightness reduces the risk of unintentionally unbalancing your horse or creating uneven wear on their muscles and joints, which should promote longevity and reduce the need for time-off or vets bills.

4️⃣ Prevents long-term physical pain.
If riders consistently ride crooked for a prolonged period of time, their body will have to compromise therefore causing pain and injury.

How does straightness help you in your normal life and your riding life? Let us know in the comments. 💙💫

As humans, we often remind ourselves that age is just a number, yet we don't extend this same mindset to horses. Recently, I had a wonderful horse for sale—kind, honest, and healthy, with no history of lameness or illness. Despite his qualities, he didn't sell. I had some inquiries, and one person...

Here’s a before and after of an Equiseat Aid customer.

This lovely lady was introduced to the Equiseat Aid by her horses physiotherapist. She has kept a diary of how she found the Equiseat Aid during every ride and has noticed a huge improvement. 💙

Diane’s main comments were:
“Found it very easy to put on…noticed that my saddle didnt feel like it was moving…Again no issues wearing it, the saddle is not slipping and we think I look straighter when I have it on, I forget I am wearing it, so its very comfortable and not restrictive which I had expected. It was comfortable to wear jumping”.

DID YOU KNOW? 👇🏻

If you sit off-centre in the saddle by even just 1 inch, that could mean there is between 14-20kg MORE* down one stirrup than the other 😱

Yes, it shocked us too!!! Imagine the impact your horse feels each time we sit in the saddle, and the long term effects they could suffer.

Tag someone in the comments that will not believe this either!😱

“Good habits formed at youth make all the difference.”

The earlier you build good habits, the stronger they will grow. Starting young means you have more time to shape your future, and breaking bad habits early saves you from setbacks later. Remember, small actions every day lead to big changes over time. 💪🏻

This is why, at Equiseat Aid, we want to help your little ones to strive early, to set them up for a life of success!💫

What’s one good habit you’re working on right now? Let us know in the comments! 💙
