4 things you probably don’t want to hear (but need to), about rider asymmetry 👇🏻
1️⃣Experienced riders aren't immune
– Even top level riders can be unlevel or distribute weight unevenly, and this still causes visible compensation in the horse, regardless of how strong or good the rider is! Good results don’t always mean good biomechanics.
2️⃣The horse’s body doesn’t lie
– Watching the horse compensate, perhaps swinging the hindquarters, twisting over the fence, landing unevenly, or repeatedly favouring a particular leg, can reveal the negative impacts of an unbalanced rider
3️⃣Small misalignments equals big consequences
– Sitting just 1cm off centre can mean between 10–14kg more weight down one side of the horses body. If that happens consistently over a long period of time, that can absolutely lead to muscle asymmetry, long-term soundness problems, and performance limitations.
4️⃣We have an ethical responsibility to our horses
– Straightness isn’t just about aesthetics or performance, it’s about doing right by our horses. We have the responsibility to take accountability for how we impact our horses.
So, if something goes wrong, can you honestly say you did everything in your power to ride in balance and as straight as possible?
If you’re even a little unsure whether you’re sitting straight, don’t wait for the signs to show up in your horse. The Equiseat Aid can improve your asymmetry and weaknesses before it causes real damage. Your horse is already telling you… are you listening?
