A short video of two handlers doing a spot of training with their spaniels. Pretty unremarkable at first glance…
However, this is all about the huge progress from ‘Feral’ to ‘Under control’. Sadly a side effect of some pretty poor advice to a novice handler. Still plenty of work to do, but for a cocker who was self employed hunting in the next county, and running in on a shot and thrown dummy, this is testimony to the owners blood sweat tears perserverance and hard work - with a little guidance in the right direction. 🤩

The ESS is a relatively new acquisition and partnership. This was also the first time both dogs had been trained together, and all over it was a fabulous session. A bonus result as Cat and Alistair are getting married this weekend! Wishing them all the best and happiness, and many happy years of training dogs together. 🥂🍾🎉👏👰🤵💍

Theo (Littlegill Harry of Hillybrocks) and I ran in the Vale of York working Retriever Club Open Working Test held in the magnificent grounds of Westfield Farm, Fimber.

The judges made good use of the undulating and somewhat challenging terrain, setting tests which stretched the dogs, (and in particular on one of the tests, the handlers.)

I was delighted to be awarded the win with Theo, he is such an honest and pretty consistent dog whether competing in tests or trials or training - often his handler is the hinderance!

Heartfelt thanks to all the following,

The Host, who couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating in allowing the club to use the ground but also taking a keen interest in the day and watching the dogs and handlers.

The committee members and all those involved behind the scenes setting up the day and organising judges and helpers and running cards and lunches and everything else that happens magically!

The judges, and most importantly the helpers, giving up not just their day to travel to the test to judge, or to throw dummies, but also meaning they can’t run their dog, have to organise someone else to look after their own dogs at home, and cover work etc, miss out on family time at weekends.

Without all of these people none of us would get the opportunity to participate.

Congratulations to everyone in the awards for all the tests yesterday. 🏆🏆🏆

Thoroughly enjoyable day training for The Large Munsterlander Club UK.
Bear had to get in on the act as usual!

Bear overseeing proceedings this evening for the last of the six evening training sessions for Three Ridings Labrador Club.

Always a pleasure to give up some time to help the club to continue to provide training, working tests and field trials.

The bottle of fizz much appreciated!

Bear had to participate and prove that anything Labradors can do he can do just as well! 😎🤩🐾🐾

After a somewhat ‘could try harder start’ Theo pulled his finger out to be awarded fourth place in the Open at Northumberland and Durham Labrador Retriever Club, held in the wonderful grounds of Streatlam Park.

Heartfelt thanks to all the people who make participation in working tests and field trials possible.
Without the landowners, the club committee members, the judges and above all the helpers on the day, we wouldn’t be able to participate.

However the highlight of my day (and year probably) was to see Jane Burniston winning the Novice Test with her dog Gerty, (Tarnedge run a mile) a couple of weeks after winning a puppy test with her young dog Sika (Tarnedge Ruby Red). A well deserved winner down to all her hard work and effort put into training her dogs. Delighted to be there to see Jane collect her trophy. 🏆

The next Generation… Gus II
Sired by Gunnerspeg General (Gus)

With some great breeding behind him along with the wonderful job of raising the litter that’s been done by mum of the pups, and her owner, he’s had the best start.

Looking forward to seeing how he grows up.

Heathcroft Stan, learning his ‘lefts from his rights’!

He also learnt today that due to my sometimes less than accurate throwing that he has to sit patiently for repeated attempts. 🤦🏼‍♀️😆🐶

Always nice to have a pointy dog back in the kennel.Especially one as nice as this young lad. 🐾
