We are pleased to announce that we are hosting BVA eye panellist James Rushton on Friday, 22nd November for routine eye examinations and gonioscopy.

There are many types of hereditary eye disease, both congenital (conditions that exist from birth or soon after birth) and non-congenital (conditions that develop later in life), that affect dogs. Many of these conditions can have serious effects on health and welfare, causing pain, blindness, or the need for lifelong medication. Testing your dog’s eyes will allow you to take action to tackle disease progression and make informed decisions around breeding.

Anyone planning to breed dogs should carry out clinical eye examinations for both parents before mating.

The BVA also offers litter screening for congenital hereditary conditions when the puppies are 5 to 12 weeks old. After the examination, you will receive a litter screening certificate with the results on. The results of litter screening of Kennel Club registered dogs will also be available on the Kennel Club database.

If you’d like to book your dog in for eye testing, please email us via [email protected] or call 01423 228080. A £20 deposit will be required per dog to secure your place.

A lovely day spent working dogs on the moor, shooting a few rabbits over the spaniels. A wonderful opportunity for young and inexperienced dogs, only possible due to the generosity of those who allow access to some fantastic ground.
A thoroughly enjoyable day with lovely company, not about shooting numbers but just gaining experience on how to work on some challenging ground.

A busy weeekend, 400 miles and two counties.
Judging for the Golden Retriever Club of Northumbria, and Tyne Tees and Tweed Field Trial Association.

Two very different days, with totally contrasting grounds, both providing different challenges for all the dogs and handlers running.

Well done to all in the awards, but mostly to all those people who give up their time so others can run their dogs.

I’ve had a busy season judging and helping with Working Tests so far, hopefully I’ll have opportunity to run my own dogs again before Shooting season starts. 😀

I work with around 30 dogs every week, a combination of training and dogs that stay for residential. Every now and then there is one who is just an exceptional pupil and a pleasure to have around. I’d like 100 Mollies please! 🤩

Gunnerspeg General and i were awarded 2nd place at the Vale of York Working Retriever Club Test today. Huge appreciation to the generosity of the landowners, and everyone who gives up their time to organise these tests. It’s quite noticeable it’s the same small group of people who are always throwing dummies and helping. Everyone who regularly runs their dogs needs to also offer to help before we have no more tests! Huge congratulations to everyone in the awards today. 🏆
