We're incredibly proud of our amazing vet Julia, who sets off today to New Zealand to represent Team GB at the World Championships!
Julia is competing in the Ironman 70.3 for the 60 - 64 age category on the 13th December.

RVN Steph fell in love with super cute Blue, a 3-month-old Bedlington Terrier Whippet cross, who visited our Ripon Hospital for the removal of a fractured baby tooth. Steph couldn’t resist his charm and enjoyed lots of lovely cuddle with him during his visit! 🐾❤️

❤️‍🩹 Bonnie came to us today for a lap spay. Due to the very small incisions, Bonnie will be running around in 3 days rather than the usual 10-14 with the traditional open spay.

👋 We’re thrilled to welcome Justyna to our Bishopton Vets Night Team as our new night vet!

Justyna is a dedicated veterinary surgeon with a passion for Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) and surgery. She graduated from Warsaw University Vet School in Poland and brings a wealth of experience having worked in first opinion practices and out-of-hours hospitals.

When she’s not caring for your pets, Justyna is all about fitness 🏃‍♀️👟 – she loves gyms, long walks, hiking and tackling obstacle course races. Her energetic Jack Russell cross, Dyzio ensures she’s always on the move!

❤️‍🩹Lionel update❤️‍🩹

Can you all remember Lionel from last week - the cheeky cocker that ate the piece of rubber and had emergency surgery on Sunday?

Well big news…

Lionel came back to the surgery for a recheck and is doing so well her feeding tube has been removed 😍

Lionel is eating well and taken all of her medication so access to her stomach is no longer needed

Here is nurse Eleanor saying goodbye and sneaking in a cuddle in the waiting room 👋

Eleanor has been involved with Lionel from anaesthesia to nursing care throughout her stay. 💓

Continuity is so important to us and something we really try hard to maintain best we can!

It was a real highlight when super-cute 🥰 Manny visited our Thirsk surgery.

Manny had an appointment with Gary Lewin from Veterinary Vision. Gary runs a weekly ophthalmology 👀 clinic out of our Thirsk surgery. This service is available to all of our clients and also to pets within the region who would like to access Veterinary Vision services closer to home.

Manny was such a good boy and sat very happily (and patiently) on the scales with his lead! 🥰

Congratulations to our fabulous Pig Team 🐷 for making it to the finals! 👏

🐷🥂Monday evening saw Duncan attend the National Pig Awards at which we were delighted to be finalists in the NPA Allied Member of the Year Award. Our congratulations go to Contented Products, who won the category and also to former Bishopton vet Joseph Lunt, who won his category. Special mention to Jeremy Clarkson who was in attendance and won Innovation of the Year. 🐖

Well done to all the finalists and thank you to Pig World, for organising such a fabulous event, in conjuction with NPA and AHDB.👏

This is the beautiful Lionel 🥰

Lionel came to us over the weekend as we cover her normal practice’s out of hours.

Lionel was vomiting and generally feeling very unwell. After some bloods and an ultrasound scan, we identified Lionel had eaten something maybe she shouldn’t 🙊

Lionel had emergency surgery the same day during which we fitted a feeding tube.

Feeding tubes are brilliant in recovery ensuring Lionel has enough calories to heal and get better ❤️‍🩹 . It’s also a sneaky way to medicate Lionel and other animals that can be challenging with tablets - medication can be crushed and placed straight down the tube into their stomach. 💊

Lionel will stay with us for a few days to allow her to feel better and start to eat around her tube. With all bowel surgery, infection is a big worry in the first few days so we will be keeping a close eye on all her vital checks. 🩺 🌡️

We were thrilled to welcome the talented Jennyruth Workshops team to our Ripon Hospital this week. The team were delivering some of their fabulous handmade products including a bird table, a wren box, a tawny owl box and a spectacular bespoke selfie frame! Whilst they were with us they enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the practice (the cat & dog wards were a particular favourite), and enjoyed some refreshments. Vet Sian & nurse Rosie talked about life in a vet practice and demonstrated some of the kit that we use.

We can't wait to get our fabulous wooden pieces in place - we are sure they will attract lots of feathered friends! 🦉 🦅

We’re very proud to announce that we have achieved our Silver Accreditation from the Investors in the Environment 🌍💚 This milestone represents our commitment to sustainability and our dedication to making a positive impact across all our departments and surgeries.

Here are some of the highlights from the report:

🌎 Significant reductions in resource use, despite an increase in business activity.
🌎 Improved waste management through reviewing and improving stock control processes.
🌎 Signifiant actions targeting sustainable travel have been implemented including new EV chargers 🚗🔌.
🌻 Environmental projects, like our award-winning wildflower meadow at Thirsk and our team gardening project at Ripon.
🌎 Active engagement and education in sustainability across the veterinary and agricultural sectors.

This year, we achieved an incredible overall score of 82%, with an outstanding 100% in improved waste management, environmental and social projects, and communication and engagement.

We’re delighted to welcome vet Lucy back to the Bishopton family!

Lucy, who grew up in Harrogate, first joined us in 2013 and worked mainly at our Ripon Hospital until 2022. After spending time helping veterinary teams across Yorkshire and the North East, she’s returned to her Bishopton roots and is now based at our Thirsk surgery. The main reason for her return was that she missed the fantastic team, clients and patients that Bishopton have. 😸🐶🐰

Lucy’s passionate about all things small animal, but is particularly fond of senior cats. 🐱. She holds an advanced qualification in small animal medicine, and is an advanced practitioner in feline medicine. She has been actively involved in training vets and vet students and has written and spoken nationally on a range of subjects including feline kidney disease, hyperthyroidism and diabetes.
