😍 Stan-Lee, Jasper and Theo 😍

Recovery nurse, Holly had a busy day looking after the three muscateers of Stan-Lee, Jasper and Theo. 🥰

Theo came in for a sedate and nail clip whilst his brothers came in for castration.

Where possible, we try and keep all family dogs together to maximise their comfort and minimise their stress 😍

As you can see Stan-Lee and Jasper spent the day keeping an eye on the whole hospital team ensuring everyone got the best level of care (and all the freshly cooked chicken 😝😝)

If your dog has some little quirks, or extra needs, do let us know and we will do our best to accommodate them. 😍

🔥 Bonfire & fireworks season is upon us. Here are our top tips to help your pet cope with the fireworks:-

🎆 Close the curtains
🎆 Put on the TV or music, louder than usual
🎆 If possible take your dog on a walk before it gets dark, make them nice and tired and go before any fireworks begin
🎆 Don't make too much fuss - ignore unusual behaviour such as panting, shaking or whining, unless they come to you for reassurance
🎆 Try playing games or giving treats to keep them nicely distracted.
🎆 Keep your pet securely inside, close all windows and doors securely
🎆 Avoid reprimanding your pet for unwanted behaviours such as whining, instead try to distract them
🎆 Remember, if you and your pet find Bonfire season difficult this year, contact one of our nursing team to discuss a plan to help them cope in the future!

🎃 Halloween Safety 🎃 What an exciting time of the year - trick or treating, sweets galore and lots of visitors coming to your door!
We want you to have all the fun you can with your family but here are some safety reminders to prevent any unexpected surprises

🎃 Stash the Treats 🍫 chocolate in all forms—especially dark or baking chocolate—can be very dangerous for cats and dogs, and sugar-free sweets containing the sugar substitute xylitol can cause serious problems in pets.
🎃 Keep pet costumes minimal.
🎃 Watch the decorations - while a carved pumpkin certainly is festive, pets can easily knock over a lit pumpkin and start a fire.
🎃 Curious kittens are especially at risk of getting burned or singed by candle flame.
🎃Halloween brings a flurry of activity with trick or treaters arriving at the door, and too many strangers can often be scary and stressful for pets.
🎃 While opening the door for guests, be sure that your dog or cat doesn’t dart outside. And always make sure your pet is wearing proper identification—if for any reason he or she does escape, a collar with ID tags can be a lifesaver for a lost pet.

Please call us as soon as possible if you think your pet has ingested something potentially dangerous ☎️

We were very proud to receive an honourable mention at the St Wilfrid’s Stars Awards ceremony held in Ripon Cathedral last week. We were nominated in the ‘Environment’ category, for the work we’re doing to reduce our carbon footprint and enhance biodiversity at Bishopton.

Our congratulations go to the worthy winners of the category, the Skell Valley Project, which has brought many local organisations and community volunteers together to undertake work to safeguard the future of the Skell river valley. And our congratulations also go to all the other award winners of the evening – a great celebration of the wonderful community spirit that exists in Ripon. 👏👏👏

Meet Kevin an 11-week old Rottweiler that came in for vaccination. 💉

It’s really important to know the manufacturer of your vaccine as not all are compatible. 🤨

Little Kevin was vaccinated with canigen by his breeder and as a practice we stock the more widely known, Nobivac.

If this happens, do not worry - we can split the vaccines to get him outside sooner, on clean pavements within a week and he can start to play with dogs with a known vaccine status 🥰

We do try and ask this when you book your appointment but in case this is missed (there’s lots to chat about when you get a new family member 😅😅) please ensure your vaccine cards are with you at your first visit so we know we are all correct.

Under our fabulous Lifetime Care Club all vaccines are covered so there is no extra charge for this and complete piece of mind that Kevin is covered for all infectious diseases 😍

😍 Stitch came across to Ripon out of hours after seeing Lucy at Easingwold.

Stitch had a very swollen face after coming back from a walk and needed a little sedation for us to have a look safely 🥰

During his snooze, we identified he has possibly been bitten by a badger and is a very lucky boy 🦡

Badgers can be very aggressive and cause huge amounts of damage to interested terriers poking their noses down their sets.

Stitches wounds were swabbed to identify any bacteria and flushed before he was woken up and sent home on lots of pain relief.

On collection, Stitche’s owner said he was very famous on the estate he lives upon and his many fans will be wanting updates all night 😍😍😍

We cannot wait to see Stitch back for a recheck, hopefully feeling a lot better! 🤗

Always remember we are available 24/7 for all of your pets needs. ☎️

🍁 Autumn Hazards 🍁 We’re coming towards an exciting time of the year - cosy evenings, twinkly lights and hot chocolates in-front of the fire 🔥
Here are some handy tips to keep your pets safe as we start the run up to the festive season…
🌙 Darker nights: With the evenings drawing in, it’s crucial to ensure your pet is visible to drivers. Use reflective or flashing collars to keep them safe on walks.
🍁 Watching your dog frolic in piles of leaves can be fun, but be cautious, sharp objects can sometimes be hidden in the foliage, increasing the risk of cuts or other injuries. Plus, leaf mould might contain bacteria and fungus that your dog can ingest leading to stomach upsets.
❄️ Anti freeze toxicity Anti freeze is very sweet and tasty to cats. Even small amounts on their paws can cause kidney failure when they lick their paws to clean their toes. Please be mindful when using these products and keep them stored in a safe place.
🍂 Decaying matter in compost heaps can develop moulds toxic to animals. If ingested, these moulds might cause neurological symptoms like seizures, so be vigilant about keeping pets away from compost areas.
🍃 Conker toxicity: Conkers contain a toxin called aesculin, which is harmful to dogs. Though severe poisoning requires ingesting several conkers, symptoms can appear within 1 to 6 hours and may even be delayed for up to two days.

If you have any concerns about possible contact with any of the above toxins, please give the practice a call 24/7 where one of the vet team can provide you with the necessary advice ☎️
