Lungeing sessions should not last longer than 20 minutes. Here’s why:

• Horses did not evolve to move in circles.
• Lungeing is hard work on the horse’s joints, tendons and muscles.
• Overwork on the lunge (or any situation) can cause pain, injury, discomfort and fatigue.

According to Australian researchers, ‘In an 18-m diameter round-pen, approximately 20 circuits equal 1 km. In just 20 minutes of lunging or round-pen work, a horse may cover around 5 km in distance which, as we postulate, poses musculoskeletal risks due to the constant circular track. Therefore, round-pen/lunging sessions exceeding 20 minutes should be avoided’ (https://tinyurl.com/CuttingTheChase).

On behalf on a friend - anyone after a cracking pony? 138cm Beautiful 6 yr old (7 in April) Dun Welsh section C mare with a green passport.

fab to hack (alone or in company), school, she absolutely loves going on pleasure rides, going to the gallops and hound exercises. she would be a great hunting pony as she’s stands politely at the meets, goes when asked and equally stops when asked, she has also attended PC rallies including mounted games, she took part in this years Area 6 Mounted Games pairs competition coming 5th place and winning a wild card ticket to attend Zones (this was her first ever game’s competition).

She has been to the beach, attended xc schooling and taken part in pony camp as 4, 5 yr & 6 yr old.

10* homes only, would suit a pc/hunting home or a mother/daughter/son share.

Due to lots of interest in our equine first aid course we will be adding a second date in the near future which we will confirm shortly. This is to keep course numbers low to ensure hands on practicals for all attendees.
Below is the outline of the course which will take approximately 2-3hours. Our start time will be 2pm on Monday 16th of October.

Todays research meme relates to bit fit. A certain brand of bit features an arrow on one side of the bit. It is important for correct bit fit, that the arrow is on the left and pointing forwards. Arrow on the left ensures that the smooth rounded surfaces of the bit are comfortable, and smooth on the bars and palate. If using a bit, important to check it is fitted correctly to ensure optimal intra-oral comfort. 🤓
