Thank you to the young family who left the cat food pouches this evening whilst we were out. Although our rescue is now closed it will be donated to other hedgehog rescues.
We retired at the end of 2023 and we are now permanently closed. You can find information and contact details for other rescues at www.yorkshirehedgehogs.co.uk

Tiny Nora is growing a little every day. On Wednesday she had a trip to meet vet Anna who checked her over and took some X-rays to check her bone structure and development. Today Nora is just over 200g and progressing nicely.
They're getting smaller 🙁 - Nora arrived last night just 175g
Please could you support Imi and her lovely micro rescue in south Leeds. She receives no funds and has to pay for all food, meds and vet fees herself.
Weʼre raising money to help buy food, supplies and medication for hedgehogs in need. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.
Despite being closed we still can't turn away little babies. Here's Nigel found this afternoon by neighbour Julie in one of her feedstations. He's only 205g far too little to be out alone.
ANNOUNCEMENT
We’re sorry to announce that The Hedgehog Shed has now closed permanently. It’s a sad time for us and we want to thank all the wonderful, caring people who have brought us sick, weak and injured hedgehogs that they have rescued.
We’re not getting any younger sadly and the late nights and early mornings are taking their toll. We will of course continue to take care of the hedgehogs still staying at The Hedgehog Shed until it is time for them to be released again.
Thank you to all those who have supported us, providing us with the funding to pay for food, medicine and vets bills and surprising us with gifts from our wishlist. Your generosity is amazing. If you have any direct debits set up or repeat orders from our wish list please cancel them.
Special thanks to our fosterers for taking in the juveniles and looking after them until they became adults ready for release.
Other rescues will benefit from what we have left over and we hope that you will continue to support them to help the hedgehog population.

Hedgehogs and especially Hoglets need keeping warm and getting to a rescue or vet as fast as possible. Speed can save lives.
The leaves are falling now and and a hedgehog loves nothing more then hiding in leaf piles.
If you have piles already, always make sure you are very careful incase a hedgehog has made his nest under already, and use your HANDS NOT A FORK.
Make piles in your gardens for them, they love to collect leaves for their nests to hibernate.
Go out and collect falling leaves for bedding make sure they are dry.
Remember keep feeding and giving water.
11.10pm end of day baby feed completed so finally finished for today. Next feed 6am tomorrow morning.🥱

I have supported and rescued hedgehogs in my Norfolk garden for 11 years. There are too many cases of hedgehogs being killed or injured, including intentionally. Adding hedgehogs to Schedule 5 would give a species in serious decline additional legal protection
The Stanley baby girls are out of the ICU, weaned and growing fast.
Now come on, be honest .. Does my bum look big in this?
Our 3 babies are only 2 weeks and a few days old but one of them is already eager to start feeding herself.
Good Monday morning everyone.
Baby Peanut arrived yesterday 17 Aug just 116g
Thank you to everyone who has donated to our rescue this year, in person, direct to the bank account or paypal and also the donations of food and items from our wishlist. Without your support we would not be able to keep The Hedgehog Shed open. Special thanks to LV Insurance for their generous donation and to Toni for arranging it.
Thimble 100g helping herself to a roast chicken lunch - her favourite weaning food
Babies Rodders and Rosie meet for the first time for fun and exercise in the play box.
Tiny Tilly arrived on Saturday from Stanley weighing just over 60g. She is in the ICU being hand fed 5 times a day. Very slowly she's becoming more alert and confident and for the first time today she lapped a little from my hand. She has a very long way to go and her future is not certain yet but if Matt and his daughters hadn't found her then it is very unlikely that she would have survived overnight.
Rosie arrived yesterday 8 July. She only weighed 96g and only about 2 weeks old. She absolutely refused to be syringe fed preferring to our surprise to feed herself from a dish of puppy mousse and hedgehog milk. Thank you to Chris for finding her alone out in the day and fetching her to us.
Baby Rodders is so hungry he'll try anything - biscuits are too hard he doesn't have teeth yet but baby mousse will keep him going whilst I get his milk ready.

Babies love to play. Here are the Pepperpot babies from finders Verity and James working up an appetite while making a horrible mess.
Although we've been closed to new admissions for a while due to being completely full tiny babies needing emergency care can't be ignored. These 3 little ones were rushed in last night, very cold and collapsed with bad fly strike. One was barely breathing. After warmed hand feed and fly eggs removed we left them at 11:30pm to spend the night in the incubator. Look at them this morning 🙂
We decided to put little Tick and Hemmy in together. Tick came to us when he was 3 days old and we hand raised him. He had 3 siblings but only Tick survived. Hemmy was found on the road next to her dead mum. Tick has never seen another hedgehog and he's quite concerned with what Hemmy is. Hemmy's rounded bottom fits the food bowls nicely making it difficult for Tick to get something to eat.
This is Tiny Tim, he only weighs 95g. Paul found him in his garden last night at around 11pm curled up, very cold and not moving. He took him into the house and this morning Paul rushed him over to us. Carefully warming him up and hand feeding him special formula milk a little at a time over a few hours and look at him now. Hopefully Tiny Tim will soon need a bigger name.
The five garage babies, Truffle, Toffee, Nugget, Pink and Boy Blue are growing fast and weaning is well under way
The babies are about 14 days old - their eyes opened fully yesterday. They are eating and growing and learning all the time and exploring and playing. No teeth yet but they can eat the baby kitten biscuits.
5 babies with no mum to look after them. In a garage huddled together and not moving at all they were very cold and hungry. Here they are a few hours later warmed up, toileted and fed.
Remember George? He's so much better that when I gave him his meds this morning he didn't cry out at all - he bit Ray instead!
