High blood pressure (hypertension) is often symptomless in cats, which is why it’s so
dangerous. It’s most common in older cats or those with conditions like kidney disease or hyperthyroidism (when the cat’s thyroid glands produce too much hormone).

Regular blood pressure checks can help us catch it early, avoiding issues like sudden blindness or damage to vital organs. Let’s stay one step ahead - book their
senior check today!

All done at the vets? Here’s how to get your cat home safe and relaxed.

🚗 Follow the same safe travel tips you used on the way to the vet.

👃 If you have multiple cats, be sure to supervise them when you arrive since the returning cat may smell different after their visit.

⏲️ Give your cat time to readjust and don't overwhelm them with attention.

So, you’ve arrived and parked outside… now what?

🤗 Carry the carrier using the top handle with one hand and support the bottom with the other.

📶 When checking in, our reception team will guide you to our designated cat waiting area.

⏩ Keep the carrier facing towards you so your cat can see you, and keep the sides of the carrier covered to create a safe space.

If your cat is prone to stress, please do ring our team and ask if you can wait in the car until your appointment time.

Travelling with your cat
Let’s make the stressful part, less stressful! 🚗

😤 Calmly place your cat in the carrier, and if they're anxious, wrap them in a towel with pheromone spray and gently ease them into the carrier.

🚫 Always use a cat carrier during travel; securing your pet whilst driving could be a finable offense.

🔒 Secure the carrier in your car by using a cushion or a towelon the back seat secure using the seat belt.

😻 Cover the carrier with a towel and reassure your cat by speaking calmly.

🙅‍♀️ Withhold food for two hours before travel if your cat is prone to stress or travel sickness.

Our Story

Our veterinary practice was opened in 1987 by Gerald Valentine (having moved from his previous surgery in Heywood to the more spacious facilities here in Castleton). He was joined in 1993 by Simon Cogan and, 10 years later by Adam Deavin). In 2003, Gary Dybdall came on board, as 15-yeard old completing his work experience for school. In 2004, Gary worked for Valentine’s by cleaning kennels until 2005, when he left to do his training. He returned to us in May 2016 as a full-time qualified vet.

Together the partnership offers you over 60 years of veterinary experience with the emphasis on good communication and a caring attitude.

The practice deals with all aspects of small animal veterinary medicine and surgery at a well equipped, convenient site.

We have a large adjacent carpark for free easy parking so feel free to pop in and see us.
