With the extreme heat warning for both today and tomorrow. Please be careful with all pets - below are some tips to help keep them cool ❤🐾.
Rabbits🐰
☀ Rabbits and guinea pigs need to be in shaded areas, with access to fresh cool water.
☀ A frozen plastic bottle placed in their enclosure works really well if they wish to lay against it.
☀ dampen down ( not soak) rabbits ears helps to keep them cool
☀ Provide a cool damp towel for them to sit on.
☀ Wet the outside of enclosures to reduce them temperature.
☀ Use fans if possible but don't allow it to blow directly onto the rabbit or guinea pigs as they often don't like this, and mind the wires! rabbits are well know to chew so ensure they cannot get to them.
Cats🐱
☀ It may sound silly but provide water, lots of water ! - Cats often like running water to drink from so increase the number of bowls in the house and garden, consider a cat water fountain. Cats are not avid swimmers so please don't put them in water
☀ Create additional shade and or cool room, close curtains and use fans so they can go in and out as they please.
☀Offer a pet cooling mat.
☀ Keep cats out of conservatories and greenhouses due to the rapid increase in temperatures in these areas.
☀ Use a pet friend sun screen.
☀ If your cat will allow, regular brushing can remove excess hair.
Dogs🐶
☀ It goes without saying, avoid walking your dog during the day. The pavements will burn paws and heat stroke can happen rapidly even if you walk in the shade.
☀Make sure your dog has access to water at all times - increase the number of bowls in the house and refresh them regularly
☀ Use cooling mats
☀ Use fans and air conditioning units if you have one.
☀ Keep their coat short and well groomed.
☀ Dampen down dogs coats with water - use a spray mist regularly.
☀ Watch closely for signs of heat stroke -
