Wotton Walkies

Wotton Walkies Doggy day care and home boarding. Herefordshire council 5* license, level 3 first aid trained. In 2014 I opened Wotton Walkies.
(8)

I run a fully licensed 5* home boarding and doggy day care business based here in my home. I am also Level 3 first aid trained. I currently have 3 Labradors, 3 cats and a handful of chickens and spend my spare time working with a charity called Labradors in Need (I am a multiple failed fosterer!). When not busy with dogs you'll find me in the kitchen baking!

Just a reminder it’ll soon be law to have your cats microchipped as well as your dogs 🐾

Attention cat owners!🐱
From 10 June 2024 cats over 20 weeks old must be and registered on a compliant database
By microchipping their cats, owners can increase the likelihood that they will be reunited with their beloved pet in the event that they go missing.

Did you know today is national pet day?

Anyone who knows me, knows I’ve a bit of a soft spot for a Labrador 😍 Here are my 3, Livvy, Holly and Molly. Both Molly and Livvy found their way into our home from Labradors in need who I volunteer with.

If you’ve got a Labrador size hole in your life maybe we can help fill it for you? We are also desperately short of volunteers in this area to help with home checks, transport runs and fostering. If you can help in any way please do get in touch 🐾😍

I actually completed this course in January but it’s taken this long for the certificate to arrive!

Anyway as you can see I’m now Level 3 first aid trained, which means amongst other things, that I know how to deal with a choking dog and can administer cpr. Let’s hope I never need to use those skills 🐾😊

An interesting article about the cost of vets. I think they should also look at the cost of insurance. Some of the in increases in premiums I’ve heard about are ridiculous.

The competition watchdog said that pet owners struggle to access information such as price lists.

As this week is looming !! Please be mindful of your dogs & other animals with fireworks.

Where possible please bring them in !!

A note from the Blue Cross regarding fireworks & your dogs................

How to keep your dog happy during fireworks

It’s a good idea to time walks earlier in the day before the fireworks start. Keep your dog on-lead if you think fireworks will be let off.

Always keep your dog indoors when fireworks are being let off.

Switching the TV or radio on might help to muffle the sound, but make sure it’s not too loud and don’t try this if your dog isn’t used to noises from the television.

Close the curtains to black out any flashing lights from outside.

Dogs are likely to drink more when they are worried, so fill their water bowl up to the brim.

Speak to your vet about Adaptil products, which contain ‘dog appeasing pheromone’ – these may help promote a feeling of calm for your dog.

Make sure your dog is microchipped and your information is up to date so your dog can be returned to you if they are spooked by fireworks and run off. By law your dog should be wearing an ID tag with the owner’s name and address displayed when they are in a public place, too. If your phone number is easily readable you will have a better chance of being reunited quickly.

Don’t tie your dog up outside while fireworks are being let off, ie outside a shop while you pop inside, or leave him in the garden or alone in the car.

It’s never a good idea to take your dog to a fireworks display, and indoor fireworks aren’t dog-friendly either. Even if they don’t whimper at the noise, it doesn’t mean they are happy. Panting and yawning are both signs that indicate your dog is stressed.

What to do if your dog is stressed by fireworks

Dogs show they are stressed or anxious in lots of ways, including panting excessively, drooling, shaking, yawning, and putting their tail between their legs.

Let your worried dog pace around, whine and hide in a corner if he wants to. Once they have found a safe space try not to disturb them.

Dogs may like to hide in a den where they can feel safe and comfortable when loud noises are all around. This could be under your bed or behind the sofa.

Placing some of your clothes there might help to keep your pet calm.

Although it’s difficult when it’s obvious your pet is stressed, try not to let your dog know you are worried as it may make the problem worse. Stay calm, act normally and give lots of praise for calm behaviour. It’s okay to cuddle and stroke your pet if it helps them relax, but if they prefer to hide under your bed, then let them do this instead.

It goes without saying that you should never shout at your pet. If you have to leave your house during firework season and come home to find your dog has been destructive or toileted, don’t get angry with them. Reprimanding them won’t help and will also make your dog more stressed.

We understand families wanting to take their children out to events so please support local charities that are using silent fireworks 💥

9 years ago today we lost our first amazing Labrador, Fern. Little did I know then that my love of labs would eventually bring me to support the amazing Labradors In Need Reg Charity No 1157110. The charity is 10 years old this year and has helped over 1000 dogs ❤️

Simba arrived in Foster care 3 weeks ago. Only 10 week old, along with his brother Billy. Simba had a umbilical hernia. The vets wanted to wait as long as possible before doing a hernia repair because of the risk of general anesthetic. Unfortunately as time progressed Simba's hernia has gotten significantly worse, Yesterday the vets felt his intestine through the hernia and due to Simba's age and the risk posed, the vet decided they needed to operate before any further complications. The operation went ahead and Simba was back home with his Foster mummy at lunch time. Having lots of cuddles and bed rest on his roads to a happy healthy life. The vet fee was £665.75 a lot higher than first expected given the severity and extra staff needed, but thankfully they did take extra good care of him💙

Wishing all my lovely customers, friends, family and your dogs of course, the most fantastic festive break! As with previous years I have donated to Labradors in need instead of cards and gifts. 2022 has been another busy year for WW which included us adopting our very own little LiN girl Molly. They are a wonderful charity, run by volunteers, rescuing and re homing labs of every age, shape and size! Sadly we’ve had our share of losses this year as well with first Dill in the summer and very sadly Mozz just a week ago. We have wonderful memories of both of them to cherish. So thank you for all your continued support and I’m looking forward to welcoming your dogs back in 2023. Lots of love Jo xx

We are in desperate need of short and long term foster homes.
As we are getting very busy and having so many long term foster dogs in our care.We have found ourselves very short on families, who can offer emergency homes for our dogs in desperate need of a safe place.
We are looking for all types of families but especially ones that are dog,cat and child free.
These homes let us introduce a scared, vulnerable dog to a friendlier world that they haven’t known,in their own time.

I’d like to wish all my lovely customers a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I’m looking forward to a busy 2022 with all your lovely dogs. Thank you for all your continued support. I have once again made a donation to Labradors in Need in lieu of cards. As most of you know I do volunteer work for them. They are a fantastic charity who are sadly busier than ever rescuing and re-homing Labradors 🐾💕 xx

Just pinched this from another page, made me chuckle, especially the bathroom bit 😂🐾💕

Dear Dog,

1) When I say move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions so you are still in the way.

2) The dishes with the paw print design are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note: placing a paw print in the middle of my plate of food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

3) The stairway is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Nor does tripping me help because I can fall faster than you can run.

4) I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs and cats sleeping. They can actually curl up in a ball.

5) It is not necessary to sleep stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but sarcasm.

6) For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, bark, try to turn the k**b or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I used to enter. In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years; canine attendance is not mandatory.

7) The proper order is: 1) kiss me, 2) lick your butt. I cannot stress this enough.

Our Story

I love walking and I love animals. I have 2 Labradors, Mozz and Holly, 2 cats, Derek and Layla, an ex racehorse called Dillon and 11 chickens! Over the years I've had a selection of other pets including rabbits, gerbils and fish! So I've decided to combine the 2 and start a business providing tailored pet services. I offer dog walking, doggy/puppy day care, home boarding and a pop in service catering for all animals including cats, rabbits, fish, sheep, goats and chickens, all tailored to you and your pets needs. I can also look after ponies and horses on a short term basis. I’m fully licensed with the council, insured and first aid trained in case of any emergencies.
