It's a bit chilly isn't it!

Keeping puppies occupied when it is cold outside can be a challenge, we don't want them getting cold as they cannot regulate their own temperatures, but equally keeping them limits their experiences and holds up their development.

So what do we do?

Here are 10 tips for socialising pups through the cold spell.

1) Take puppies out after the morning frost has burnt off, and not after dark.

2) Make sure we take a couple at time, so we watch them, and pick them up if they appear cold.

3) Have warmed towels and bedding ready for when they come in.

4) Have a warmed feed at the ready for when they come in.

5) Litter train them from the off, so they don't need as many toilet breaks outside.

6) Create an indoor play area so they can burn off energy.

7) Carry them outside, so they get the experience, but stay warm.

8) Ideal opportunity for car/crate training (pop the heaters on first).

9) Use snuffle mats to prolong feed times to tired them out.

10) Take them out individually, being mindful of biosecurity and vaccines, and socialise in shops/indoor venues.

It won't be long and this cold spell will pass and we can all get back to business as usual, but in the meantime let's use it to our advantage and get some important work done!
