Winners spotlight Christopher said “We are Critters Community Network CIC, operating the primary pet food bank supporting vulnerable families across Rotherham, South Yorkshire. We are not a traditional rescue; we are a crucial crisis prevention service.

Our core function is providing essential pet food and supplies from our central hub. However, we are unique because we operate holistically: we recognize the human side of hardship. We ensure that families facing extreme poverty do not have to make the devastating choice to surrender a beloved pet. We do this by also supplying essential hygiene products and clothing to the owners, alongside pet supplies, and signposting them to wider human support services like debt and housing advice. Our mission is simple: we support the entire family unit to keep pets safe, loved, and at home.” 💜

🚨 THE SILENT CRISIS: WHY 3.6% INFLATION STILL HITS ROTHERHAM’S FAMILIES HARDEST 💔

Hi everyone, Critters Community Network CIC here.

The latest figures show the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation rate is 3.6%. While that might sound like "stability" in the news, for the families we serve in Rotherham, it means prices are still climbing, and their struggles are intensifying.

THE REALITY OF 3.6% INFLATION:
Eroded Purchasing Power: If your wages or benefits only increase by 2% (or are frozen), your money buys 1.6% less every year. This is the real-term income cut that drives people to our food bank.

DISPROPORTIONATE PAIN: Inflation is not felt equally! The costs for basic necessities—like food and energy—are often rising faster than the general 3.6% headline rate. For families on the lowest incomes, who spend a much larger share of their budget on these essentials, this is financially devastating.

THE BENEFITS LAG: Welfare payments are uprated based on a measure of inflation from months ago. If inflation remains high, the value of those payments is shrinking every single day until the next uprating in April.

WHY CRITTERS MUST EXIST:
This economic pressure forces parents to make impossible choices. Your support provides the emergency buffer that prevents those choices.

YOUR KINDNESS FIGHTS INFLATION: Every pound you donate helps us secure a pet's meal before its price rises again.

YOUR SUPPORT IS A REAL WAGE INCREASE: When we provide pet food, hygiene supplies, and clothing, we are essentially injecting purchasing power back into a family’s budget, allowing them to spend their limited money on rent and heating.

If you are looking for a way to directly combat the erosion of purchasing power for a vulnerable Rotherham family, please consider supporting our unfunded mission.

Help us secure 350+ pet meals per week, even as costs continue to rise:

📢 BEYOND THE HEADLINES: THE AUTUMN STATEMENT, OUR REALITY, AND WHY CRITTERS COMMUNITY NETWORK CIC EXISTS. 📢

Hi everyone, Christopher and Dawn here, founders of Critters Community Network CIC .

Today, many are discussing the Autumn Statement, painting pictures of economic growth and tax cuts. But from our vantage point on the ground in Rotherham, running a vital poverty relief service, the reality is starkly different, and deeply concerning.

We receive ZERO FUNDING from the government or local councils. Every single meal we provide, every hygiene product, every garment of clothing, and the very existence of our hub, is powered by your generosity. Yet, our work fills gaps that national policy consistently leaves wide open.

THE REAL COST OF THE "COST OF LIVING CRISIS" – UNSEEN IN THE BUDGET BOOKS:

"TAX CUTS" FOR SOME, FISCAL DRAG FOR MOST:
When personal tax thresholds are frozen while wages nominally rise, it's an indirect tax hike on hardworking individuals. This "fiscal drag" pulls more people into paying tax, and more into higher bands. It means less money in the pockets of the working families we serve – and less in ours, as we personally absorb the costs of running Critters while on Universal Credit.

THE DOUBLE STANDARD: ATTACKING THE VULNERABLE WHILE THEIR NEED INTENSIFIES:
While we cautiously welcome the abolition of the two-child limit (a policy we've always fought against), it's overshadowed by alarming rhetoric. Proposals to reduce disability benefits for new claimants and intensify benefit crackdowns create a hostile environment. This narrative attacks the very people who, through no fault of their own, desperately need our support. They aren't "shirkers"; they are our neighbours, our friends, often working, or unable to work due to genuine health challenges.

THE CRISIS IS INTENSIFYING, NOT EASING:
The budget, for all its claims, will likely increase demand for our services. Families already at breaking point will find their situations even more precarious. The number of pet meals we provide (over 350 per week) and the amount of human aid we distribute will only grow, even as our own operational costs (like fuel and logistics for our hub) continue to rise with inflation.

WHY CRITTERS COMMUNITY NETWORK CIC IS MORE CRITICAL THAN EVER:
We don't just provide charity; we provide critical crisis prevention and human dignity. We are an award-winning organisation born out of necessity, not government design. We exist to:

KEEP FAMILIES TOGETHER: Preventing the heartbreaking choice between feeding a pet or feeding a child.

RESTORE DIGNITY: Providing essential hygiene and clothing when official support falls short.

BRIDGE THE GAPS: Signposting to vital services that our families desperately need.

The Autumn Statement reminds us that we are the ones on the frontline, facing the real human and animal impact of policy decisions. We are unfunded by the state, yet we are holding up a vital part of the community safety net.

We stand here today, asking our community, and potential corporate partners, to look beyond the political headlines. Invest in real, tangible impact on the ground. Invest in us.

Help us continue to be the safety net the budget overlooks:

📢 THE AUTUMN STATEMENT: A FOUNDER'S CRITICAL VIEW ON THE REALITY OF THE COST OF LIVING CRISIS IN ROTHERHAM📉

Hi everyone, Today, the Autumn Statement has dominated the headlines, painting a picture of stability and opportunity. But for those of us on the ground, witnessing the silent, daily struggle of families in Rotherham, we have to share a much more critical and honest perspective on what this budget truly means for our community, and for the future of Critters Community Network CIC.

This is going to be a long post, but it's a vital one.

THE COLD REALITY: WHEN BUDGETS DON'T REACH THE HEART OF THE CRISIS

We know the language of politics often talks about "growing the economy" and "tax cuts." But the hard, inescapable truth is that for our clients—and for us, as founders managing this massive operation while both being on Universal Credit—the reality remains unchanged. When benefits uprating barely keeps pace with actual inflation, it results in a REAL-TERMS INCOME CUT. This isn't just theory; it means there is less money left for human essentials like heating and basic hygiene, long before a pet's food bowl is even considered.

The Autumn Statement, for all its grand claims, DOES NOT LIFT THE PRESSURE on the deepest trenches of the cost-of-living crisis. It reinforces the fact that grassroots organisations like ours are not a temporary fix; we are now an ESSENTIAL, PERMANENT PILLAR of the community safety net, and that net is getting thinner every day.

THE DOUBLE BURDEN: OUR COSTS GO UP, SO DOES DEMAND

Our work here in Rotherham is relentless. We now provide OVER 350 MEALS TO PETS EVERY WEEK from our hub. This award-winning efficiency is powered by two things that the budget is unlikely to relieve: fuel and logistics.

Any policy that maintains or increases pressure on fuel duties immediately translates into a HIGHER MONTHLY COST FOR OUR ESSENTIAL PALLET DELIVERIES—the logistics lifeline that brings bulk food to our clients. This directly risks our ability to sustain the money needed just to move the food. Meanwhile, the personal financial sacrifice we make to cover the £180 MONTHLY HUB STORAGE COST becomes harder, not easier.

The budget solidifies the narrative: THE BURDEN OF CARING FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY IS STILL FALLING SQUARELY ON THE SHOULDERS OF THOSE LEAST ABLE TO AFFORD IT.

OUR MISSION IS THE ANSWER TO THE BUDGET'S SHORTCOMINGS

This is why Critters Community Network CIC must not just survive, but thrive. Our holistic model is the solution to the human and animal crisis that large-scale policy can't touch:

* WE PROTECT THE FAMILY UNIT: We intervene directly with pet food, but crucially, also with hygiene products and clothing. We stop the spiraling crisis that forces an owner to surrender a pet because they can no longer afford to feel dignified themselves.
* WE SIGNPOST THE SOLUTIONS: Our Resource Referral Service directs vulnerable owners to crucial debt, housing, and benefits advice—the exact services that the local council needs support in delivering.
* WE ARE RESILIENT: We grew from a spare room with no money because we believe in this mission more than we believe in the statistics of financial impossibility.

THE STRATEGIC OPPORTUNITY: YOUR INVESTMENT IN REAL IMPACT

The Autumn Statement often provides tax incentives for businesses. This is our strategic opportunity to convert those policies into real-world change. Companies need verifiable, impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partners, and our VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR status and proven track record make us the ideal choice.

We are now actively seeking corporate sponsors for our BRONZE (£180/MONTH), SILVER (£250/MONTH), and GOLD (£1,180/MONTH) tiers to secure our future.

THIS IS NOT JUST A DONATION—IT'S AN INVESTMENT IN HUMANITY

We ask our community to look beyond the headlines and invest directly in the safety net we run for Rotherham. This isn't just charity; it's a foundational investment in preventing suffering and keeping families whole.

If you are a business looking for meaningful CSR, or an individual who understands the immense burden of this work, please help us secure our operations immediately. We can’t do this alone.

🤯 BRAINSTORMING BIG IDEAS: COULD A 'PET NHS' WORK IN THE UK? 🤯

Hi everyone Critters Community Network CIC here!
We spend our days helping families keep their pets healthy, and it often highlights the huge financial stress vet bills can cause. It got us thinking big... WHAT IF THERE WAS A 'PET NHS' IN THE UK?

This isn't something we're looking to offer, just a BRAINSTORMING IDEA to get your opinions!

Imagine this:
* A UK-wide "Pet NHS" where owners could opt-in to a government-backed system.

* You pay a small, regular "PET LEVY" (like a tax, maybe £5-£40 a month per pet, depending on species/breed) as part of your annual pet registration.

* In return, ESSENTIAL VET TREATMENTS AND MEDICATIONS ARE COVERED for your enrolled pet, even potentially for pre-existing conditions (with careful management).

* If you don't opt-in, you manage all vet costs privately.

This is a massive concept, but could it remove the constant worry of unexpected vet bills for millions of pet owners? Could it prevent needless suffering and pet surrender?

WHAT ARE YOUR INITIAL THOUGHTS? WOULD YOU OPT-IN FOR A MONTHLY LEVY TO HAVE ESSENTIAL VET CARE COVERED? WHAT WOULD BE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

Let's hear your ideas and opinions! 👇
