A really cold morning in Stoke attending to some Koi with injuries. -5 and snow on the ground, at least the pond was heated at a pleasant 12.5c. Dealt with the issues and having to defrost the net a few times, ready for some milder weather to return.

A recent pond rebuild finished in the last few weeks. A clients Koi were outgrowing the pond, so the only option was to rebuild. A massive amount of work, the weather did not help. Redesigned and added 12000 litres. In wall skimmers, oase drum filtration bottom drains and auto top up. The finish is amazing and very pleased clients. Another pleasing project completed.

We have been very busy over recent weeks for Koi health emergencies and pre winter health check ups. It’s important that the water parameters are optimum and the fish parasite free. As temperatures drop as we move into winter the fish metabolism slows down and the immune system is compromised, should there be issues present, these can have a big impact on the fish health. We have been very busy on pond health calls, a change today installing an Ozone generator on a 40,000 litre pond. They have so many benefits and we will be monitoring the results.

A busy week on pond health visits. Lots going on, plenty cases of Trichodina and body flukes and some mild bacterial issues, and a pH crash. Keep observing your pond for any unusual behaviour, don’t leave it to late and keep up maintenance with regular water changes and test the water parameters.

After we assisted with EZ Ponds first Halo 1000i double window tank a few weeks ago, installed the main pipework that was going under ground, we have been back to complete the install of the filter system and water top system. A great looking tank with very happy customers.

A great job today, working with EZ Ponds to bring to life the first Halo tank installed on site for a Children’s Hospice. I shall be returning to install the full filter system in the coming weeks and will share the end result soon.

Not the best start to the day, on a long journey to a client, broken down on the M6 and recovery. Looks like a ride home to get fixed 🥲

A busy week installing an Oase Proficlear L gravity system and adding a gravity floating skimmer bored through the pond wall to increase flow. Ripped out old filter, new base and pipe work upgraded to pressure pipe, amalgam UV system, Profiguard auto top up system and upgraded valves. The pond clarity has improved dramatically in 24hrs and will be crystal clear in the coming days, a very happy customer.

Been busy today, on with the scuba gear. A blockage in spindrifter bottom drain pipework. Really stubborn, a solid blockage, but got there in the end with jet nozzle pipe cleaner we use where we can. Always love a dive 😎

Moving into spring now, we hope, but wet and some cold spells. We have started spring pond health checks and have been keeping very busy, a few ponds pictured with recent visits. Frequently finding high numbers Flukes, both body and gill, Costia and Trichodina. A busy time, the tank was delivered and installed just before Christmas, we have now supplied and installed the filter system and ThermoTec heater ready for the big fill and Koi move in the coming weeks at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, progressing well.

From this to now. I visited a new client in September , most of the koi had serious bacterial issues, in a new pond, 10 months built. An aquascape style pond, natural. It was built to an outstandingly poor quality and not fit to keep any fish in, 3 tonnes of gravel, just to start with, endless pipes that did nothing, no mechanical filtration, a rotting cesspit of bacteria, the system was a complete mess and the client had been duped sorry to say. The whole system ripped out and rebuilt so it would work and can have an eco system that works. These natural ponds are not fit for koi and when built by a novice and with a small volume of water, no eco system will work. I have worked on this project with Robert Lee from Perfect Ponds and is truly a legend when it comes to building ponds, we have delivered a truly amazing pond for what the client wanted in the first place and will work to home the Koi in a workable eco system. Just shocking to see how some pond builders just act and behave, take and promise.

An incredibly busy week visiting ponds all over the country for pre winter pond checks. The main culprits out there , gill & body flukes, Trichodina and still plenty of costia. Concerning to see such an increase in systemic bacterial infections. Some cases have been left too late with mortalities. Keep observing your pond and koi, deal with any concerns quickly, temperatures are dropping as we move into winter, the healing process takes much longer.

Been very busy on pond health visits. There is just so much costia out there, haven’t had so many cases for years and been going on since the start of the year. Many ponds with quick and high numbers of mortalities, so sad to see. Please, observe and act quickly, don’t put off investigations or blind treat.

Keeping busy, many issues with Koi health, from the problems colder temperatures have caused and plenty parasitic activity. Apart from the regular Flukes and Trichodina, costia seems to be increasing in frequency on ponds visited recently.

On a winter health visit this week, the client had only one small slight issue with a Koi, there certainly wasn’t the indicators for such a heavy infestation of body flukes. I was pond-side for almost 3 hours whilst running all the comprehensive tests, so I was really surprised by the numbers of flukes. Pre winter health checks really do pay off as this would have been a different story if left undiagnosed and untreated as the temperatures are dropping quickly, so does the koi immune system and ability to deal with issues.
