Mint is always one of the first to come out and enjoy his dinner โบ๏ธ๐ฅฐ
Yesterday saw the arrival of 5 new hedgehogs including little Matcha.
Matcha was found out during the day crossing the road her finder quickly scooped her up and brought her home. Her finder got in contact with us and brought her along.
On admission she was very active but had lots of fleas and a few ticks. Once her fleas were treated and ticks removed we gave her some subcutaneous fluids and offered her some food. She wasnโt keen on her wet food but absolutely loved her Royal canin mother and baby cat biscuits!
Her first faecal has been tested and so far she is clear but we will retest in a few days just in case there is something hiding.
Welcome Matcha! โฅ๏ธ๐ฆ
Russle came to us after being found out during the day in his finders garden. On arrival he has quite extensive flystrike to his ears, eyes, legs and genitals. Some one which had already hatched into maggots. Once we had removed all of the eggs and maggots he was warmed up and given some subcutaneous fluids.
Itโs been very touch and go with him as he was refusing syringe feeds and was not interested in eating for himself. However the last few days he has realised that food is actually quite yummy.
A huge thanks to all who have donated items off our Amazon wish list ๐ฆโฅ๏ธ
And they just keep comingโฆ
Hotrod was found curled up on the path in front of her finders house. Sadly there was no sign of mum so the decision was made to bring her in. On admission she had very wrinkly skin so it was evident that she hadnโt been fed in quite some time.
On first impressions Hotrod was not best pleased with the situation she had found herself in. She was extremely jumpy and huffy and did not appreciate being handled, we canโt say we blame her.
Turns out she was just desperate for a wee, once she was toileted she calmed down massively and even took her first syringe feed like a champ.
Did you know hoglets cannot go to the toilet by themselves? Mum would stimulate this by licking their bellies and she would do this till they are around 3 weeks old. As we are not mum we use a cotton bud dipped in baby oil which is gently vibrated over their genitals to help them go to the toilet.

They grow up so quickly ๐ฅฐ Bumble and Bee update one week on since their admission.
While the first few days were a challenge with both little hoglets not thriving and refusing hand feeds. We are now happy to report both babies have gained nearly 30g and are now lapping puppy formula all on their own.
A huge thank you to all who sent items from our Amazon wishlist. Your support is greatly appreciated.
