Aaand it’s that time of year again! HAY FOR EVERYONE!
We are very lucky with our grazing this year and we have actually managed to rest some of the sheep fields!!
Horses field isn’t as bad this part is the bit that they have churned up by the gate but it’s time for a little extra hay in the day times!

Happy Monday!
Spent the weekend checking the electric fencing on the mains sheep field, as you can see that have eaten a significant amount of grass off this field now and soon it will be time to move them again! Scanning at the weekend so we will know if anyone isn’t in lamb and we can move them accordingly!
Ram lambs are now split from the bog ram a and in their own little field to grow and mature over winter and Baleshare is keeping them company, had a look through the big rams and it may be time to go through them all and see what we will keep ect going into 2024…

Tb to 2022 when I worked as a shepherd for a lovely farmer Market Harborough, after an injury to my MCL and ACL in September 2022 I unfortunately had to step down as I couldn’t really do it any more in a leg brace….
The new year rolling in has made me look at what I achieved in 2023, I may not look after 1000s of sheep on a daily basis any more but that doesn’t make me any less of a shepherd than I am now with my little flock, we have done well with the Hebridean sheep in the show circuit and have built up out Lleyn flock! I miss days like these, getting in the sheep with the most fantastic dog and spending the day in the sunshine, worming, dagging ect, and who knows what the future will bring, but right now I am content with my lot!
Next big day for us in scanning January 14th!

The electric fencing has now been moved and expanded so that we can bring all the ewes up to the estate to eat this field off for as long as we can!
I’m interested in seeing what this field looks like as this field has only ever had horses on and then hay made from it, the grass it struggling against the many other plants that are growing here that make the hay not as good quality, our hope is the Hebridean’s will help this field transform itself back to a healthier environment as this is what we have used them for at the other fields! Fingers crossed this is was fly what this needs!

My last day at work before 5 days off for Christmas ❤️
Even though I’m looking forward to a little break we have a few jobs to get sorted! Finish the electric fencing and move the sheep about! Fingers crossed they will all be in their allotted fields by Christmas Day!

Throwback to this time last year!
When we had a house full of puppies, the Christmas tree was actually up and I was much more organised than usually am this year!
These pups are all over a year old now and I do get updates from most of them! Particularly from Peggy who is with and moose who is with !

🎄 Something a little bit different yesterday! 🎄
For those of you who may not know I have a foundation degree in fine art and degree in design for performance, I don’t get much time to get creative any more so I absolutely treasure my yearly Christmas window design for , I’ve known Melissa for a few years now so it’s lovely to come over drink fab coffee and eat my first ever cronut from , natter and draw!

🥰 Lleyns officially tupped! 🥰
After a week or so in with the girls Leo has successfully tupping them all and was making plans to escape and head out to find more ladies…so after a couple of days deciding the right course of action after his Houdini impressions, I have hired him to a friend who has recently acquired some Lleyn ewes and was looking for a ram!
All works out in the end!

With tupping almost over it’s time for a throwback to last years lambing!
A good few weeks of lambing which is why we took the decision to sponge this year! Plus helping out of the farm down the road that was featured in my tupping takeover and lambing for which I just adore to do!
Lambing will commence around March 17th 2023! And we are very excited!

🐴❤️Remembrance Sunday ❤️🐴

A hack down to the memorial service in the village, a few minutes of standing listening and remembering and then a nice trot and canter home 🥰
Didn’t bat an eyelid, not even at roadworks, florescent men and motorbikes, Good girls!
The funniest moment was when Cara decided that she wanted to round up all the sheep in the park rather than cantering in a straight line….
And ended the day with having to catch Leo who made a big for freedom after covering all his girls and getting bored, so he is now is a barn next to caras stable and she’s not particularly amused!
I’m true November style it was tipping it down so had to wear my jacket and leggings! Kept me toasty and shows their versatility!

⭐️ Happy Sunday all! ⭐️
The frosts are starting to arrive, the days are shorter and I’m always hungry…it must be November!
This time of year is a favourite for the Hebridean sheep, originally descended from the Hebridean islands in north Scotland , they are much more used to a harsher climate, they love the cooler wether as they have such thick fleeces, and due to the lack of sunshine, they are blacker in the winter too as they don’t get sun bleached.

Being a women in agriculture will always have its challenges, and i think every women in this industry has experienced negativity due to being female at one point or another..
But I have to say that during my time in the industry as someone who is not from a farming background, I have realised that this is slowly changing, women are paving the way for us all, they are heading the harvest and looking after flocks of 1000s of sheep.
I have worked with some incredible women, and it’s amazing to see different capable women and girls doing their thing and excelling in an industry that has been male dominated for a while. And most importantly supporting and lifting each other up.
Men and women are both integral parts of agriculture and we are all working hard to feed the nation!

That Friday feeling!
Well I think we can all feel the fact that the clocks have gone back, the nights are darker and there is certainly less time do so everything now in the evening! So for a few months it will be headtorches in the car at all times and planning the big jobs for the weekend as with a full time job we won’t be able to do the big things after work any more! Oh well only a few months 🙈
I won’t lie, this time of year is tough for us, it’s cold, wet, dark, rushed, busy, but it’s all with it in the end, and when the days start lengthening again I’ll jump for joy!

Last night was the local Halloween party and myself and popped along to have a nice night out after so many weeks of feeling really run down!
Came away with first prize female costume which was brilliant 🤩
