A sneak peak of the search areas for our Halloween Spooktacular! 🦇
10 teams stepped up to the challenge this evening, 7 more are ready to go tomorrow! #halloweenspooktacular
Little Primrose never fails to put a smile on my face 🥰
It was great to have a catch up with this team, they are continuing to put in the work and there are some wonderful new habits forming. Prim used to find the garden really exciting (I don’t blame her, it’s a dream), she’d wildly zoom off without a single glance back.
Over the past few months we have worked hard to build that connection outside. Her human is a part of the picture now, and they get to enjoy this amazing space together ♥️
Look at Rosie go! She really does love that search.
Yesterday we had our final catch up of the beginners course. This team are all caught up and ready to come back to classes this week!
It’s been fantastic watching Rosie progress over the past 4 weeks, she’s really enjoying it! Scent detection has been a fantastic outlet for her - She is becoming a focused, motivated little search dog 😍
Yesterday our experienced teams worked some larger search areas.
Throughout the session we explored how we can set each dog up to succeed with their searches:
✨ We considered how the dogs worked. Did they have a preference on which side they worked?
✨ We looked at the search area as a whole and took our time to split it into manageable sections.
✨ We took our time at the start, making sure the the dogs were connected and ready to work.
✨ We made sure that the handlers were nice and clear with their tasking. It’s important the dogs know where to start.
Most of all, we had fun! There was some fabulous teamwork 👏🏻
This afternoon I had a 1-2-1 Scentwork session with Team Merlin, an experienced scent detection team. Jess has recently imprinted Merlin onto a new target odour, Kong. It’s going well and it was time to check for and build on that odour recognition.
Merlin searched well, he definitely recognises the odour! The plan is to continue to build up a reward history in a variety of searches before we start to polish up that indication 👏🏻
I was grinning from ear to ear after my catch up with Team Chester on Monday - This team are absolutely smashing it! 👏🏻
We are carefully navigating our way through adolescence with Chester at the moment, ensuring we set him up to succeed and provide clarity in our training. As well as managing our expectations! Being a teenage boy is hard, we want to keep things as simple for him as possible! 😂
Team Solas are absolutely smashing puppyhood, I am absolutely loving watching him grow into a confident well rounded boy.
During this session we worked on him offering engagement as a default behaviour and continued to work on him staying connected with his human around distractions. My little Callie was happy to step in to help distract!
Look at them go 👏🏻
I had a lovely catch up with team Chester recently, watching their progression between sessions really is fantastic - Chester is a lucky boy to have humans so dedicated to his training.
During our session we continued to introduce a bit more freedom to Chester’s walks, ensuring we keep him engaged and connected while also allowing him to enjoy his environment. We had a lot of fun!
Merry Christmas from our little family to yours ♥️🎄
It’s been a pleasure working with you all this year, I’m so proud of the progress you have made!
What do you see here? A puppy doing nothing? Yep! That’s right!! It’s such an an important part of puppy socialisation.
It may look like nothing but really:
✨ Charlie is taking in his environment in a calm manner.
✨ He is at a safe distance, learning that things aren’t scary!
✨ He is learning that it’s ok to just watch people pass by - he doesn’t need to say hello to everyone!
✨ He is learning that life isn’t as exciting as he thinks!
✨ He is also learning that if he checks in with his human he will be rewarded!
I always ask my puppy clients the same question; What are your expectations for your adult dog? I get the same response each tome. A calm dog, who is a joy to take out and be around.
You have to lay those foundations while they are young! 😉
