Base layer going in on Ro's muzzle, a gentle touch is required. Don't be tempted to use pressure to get colour, use layers, lots and lots of layers...

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say Hi at the show at the weekend. Some questions I was asked...

How long do the drawings take?
- This depends, anything from about 20 hours up, elapsed time is 2 to 4 weeks on average as this is a "out of office hours" hobby gone mad!

How many do you do?
- I undertake very few portraits a year to make sure they get my full attention. Sometimes they don't go to plan on the first attempt so I will re-start ensuring each is as the commissioner expects. Below is one such example, started in pastel then switched to pencil as the colours just weren't right.

How do I know how it will turn out?
- I send regular updates during the creation of each piece so you can see how it's progressing and if you are happy with it. Each portrait is personal so I am happy with you saying it's not quite right, I can then adjust and re-chwck to make sure you get a piece that is special

How long have you been drawing?
- Just 18months! I did draw in high school, and did a few koi paintings a few years ago, but I picked up coloured pencils when my husband bought me a set for my birthday last year. I then picked up pastels a few months later

So this is attempt 4 and I am finally happy!

I have upsized the picture to A3, commission was for A4 but that did not give enough space for the detail. Sometimes I will do this where it means a good result and this does not result in higher charges as is my decision ❤️
