Weekend's are for adventures, followed by relaxing. ❤
Enrichment is only enriching if the dog is choosing to interact and is enjoying the experience.
The first time I gave Baldrick an egg box with a dried sprat inside he just looked at me, so I opened it for him. 5 months later and he has mastered a hollee roller!
If we are using any sort of food enrichment activity we really need to be mindful that we are not creating frustration, or luring them into something they would rather not do.
And remember, add food enrichment games after they have had their normal meals, being overly hungry and having to work for your meal is not something we would enjoy, or them!
Weekend adventures!
We try and go further afield at the weekends to allow Baldrick to have the freedom and space to explore without meeting another dog! We didn't manage it on Saturday and just went to a local park, however, Baldrick managed to ignore the 3 dogs we did see, so a reaction free weekend. Well done Baldrick.
A bit more Friday fun ... a smelly feet post!
It's always good to share when you get it oh so wrong!
I had some 1-2-1 time with Mr Moussaka, so before he had his nice big chew we did a bit of 'sniff out the cash'. I made it way too hard by hiding the fiver in my smelly shoe (obnoxious scent overload!) plus I started apologising to him as he was searching completely distracting the poor boy. Yet good old Moosey got there in the end!
Massive shout out to Lucy at Bone Canis for coming and helping us with young Baldrick today.
He is doing well, but he has been through a huge trauma losing his previous family, and we were in need of a qualified behaviourist to come and observe Baldrick, and us, and to advise us on how we can further help him to feel safe when venturing out.
As you can see, he's had a good roll, a few lip licks and a shake off, and is now feeling pretty chill, and we are too knowing we are heading in the right direction.
Adopting any dog is a long journey as you get to know each other and build trust, and the deep seated feeling of safety is paramount.
Thank you Lucy ❤
An old post, but always worth a re share at this time of year. Mr Moussaka scrumping for apples, plus our wonderful Mr O who we miss everyday ❤
Almost 3 weeks with Baldrick and I think he is settling in!
Beach boys - Mr Moussaka and Baldrick
Our first off lead walk at the crack of dawn and the boy did good!
Secure field with Mr Moussaka and Baldrick
Baldrick update
We took the boys to Bridge Meadow secure Dog Field last week so they could spend some time exploring together off lead, and in peace.
It was really nice to be able to just observe them as they chose to sniff around together, and they really enjoyed it too.
We had a couple of recalls (after they had spent a lot of time sniffing) and Baldrick was a super star!
Pleased to say Daisy Puss has returned to her rightful place on the sofa with no issues from Badrick! Happy weekend all 🙂
Baldrick adoption update
Day 1 - we did nothing
Day 2 - we did nothing
Day 3 - he had a sniff around outside space of The Secret Dog Garden
Day 4 - he had sniff around the larger building, and rather liked it! (no food was involved, just sniffing)
Day 5 - he had a sniff around the animal scent shed
Baldrick has now given his approval to The Secret Dog Garden!
We have gone super slowly with his introduction to our family, as he has lost his own, so he will obviously be super stressed. We haven't always got it right, and I will be honest with our mistakes (not his) and will share more updates soon.
Right now he is chilling on the sofa and has no interest in the cat who is on the other sofa for the first time since he arrived ❤
