Just a reminder, if you keep any poultry or captive birds, even if they are considered pets they must be registered with DEFRA by 1st October 2024.

If you have less than 50 birds please follow this link to help with registration: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/register-as-a-keeper-of-less-than-50-poultry-or-other-captive-birds

If you have more than 50 birds please follow this link to help with registration: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/poultry-including-game-birds-registration-rules-and-forms

You do not need to register pet birds such as budgies, parrots, cockatiels and finches. If they are both:
fully housed in a dwelling (your home or another indoor structure)
with no access to the open air

If your birds are taken outdoors at any time, for example to be exercised, trained, or taken to bird gatherings or shows, they must be registered. You do not need to register an exempt bird to visit a veterinary practice.

How and when you must register as a bird keeper (including for any birds you keep as pets).

Well done to Jordan this afternoon for delivering this baby boy by caesarean section. He was too big to be born the normal way! The cow belongs to nurse Stef’s husband and family so no pressure at all 😉!

*Fly Strike*

Fly strike is caused by flys laying eggs on an animal! This quickly turns into maggots hatching which will eat the skin of its host! This is a severely dangerous condition which can happen in any animal and is particularly prevalent in hot weather. Rabbits are particularly prone to fly strike. Please check your pets daily especially around their rear ends and call us immediately if you suspect fly strike is happening as it can become fatal very quickly!
