We are now fully booked for pet travel certificates until 2nd of September.
We do strongly advise to ensure all your travel plans are in place a number of weeks or months in advance as we are receiving daily requests for AHC appointments and vaccination appointments for kennels only a day or two before travel. We are generally fully booked for weekday vaccination appointments a week in advance and 3-4 weeks in advance for weekend appointments. AHCs are generally fully booked 4-6 weeks in advance.

Backpacks might seem like a good idea, but they are cramped, poorly ventilated and can get pretty hot especially when the temperature soars.

Summers finally here and it's going to be a warm few days 🌞🌞 Just a reminder of when it's too hot to walk. 1st think in the morning and late evening are best but never risk taking your dog out in the middle of the day.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer Animal Health Certificates for travel from the 8th-28th of August this summer. If you are planning on traveling with your pet during August please ensure you are able to make alternative arrangements to gain a certificate. It's not long until the new laws regarding microchipping cats come into effect. From the 10th of June cats will be legally required to be microchipped by 20 weeks of age, any owners with cats over this age will face a £500 fine. To book an appointment to ensure your cat is microchipped before this date plase call us on 01727 791850. For more information please see

The GOV has announced that microchipping is to become a legal requirement for cats, with penalties of up to £500 for those who fail to comply.

✨HARRY!!!✨

Everyone meet Harry! Harry has been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, which in cats is like type 2 diabetes in humans called ‘non-insulin dependent diabetes’. In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas will still secrete insulin however the cells will be resistant and not be able to uptake the glucose. Type 2 diabetes in cats is commonly caused by obesity (not in Harry’s case!). If untreated, type 2 diabetes can progress to type 1, meaning the patient becomes insulin dependent as the pancreas does not secrete any insulin.

Common signs of diabetes mellitus in cats include increased thirst, increased hunger, increased urination, loss of muscle and a posture where the hock on the hindleg lays flat to the ground (called a plantigrade stance).

Harry is currently undergoing further investigation as his glucose levels remain uncontrolled even on high doses of insulin. Harry gets patient of the month as he is the bravest and sweetest boy. Our team currently see Harry frequently for glucose monitoring, which involves taking a blood sample every 1-2 hours, as well as seeing him for regular health checks and singular glucose checks. Harry is the sopiest and bravest boy, allowing our team to take the samples with no restraint other than a cuddle. So for this reason, Harry gets the bravery award and the patient of the month! Harry is a pleasure to see in practice and it makes our teams day whenever Harry comes in.

🌟CUTENESS ALERT🌟

Everyone meet Cannon. Cannon was an extra good boy today for his dental scale and polish and had one molar removed that was wobbly. Here is a picture of Cannon having a post anaesthetic cuddle with our student veterinary nurse Lily and the other by Kai our VCA getting chin scratches in the kennel.

🌟A scale and polish is a dental procedure done under general anaesthetic that aims to remove plaque and get those teeth squeaky clean. Scale and polishes are recommended yearly, but this factors on your dog’s routine dental hygiene. A scale and polish isn’t just for dogs it can be done for our feline friends too.

🌟A scale and polish is a procedure that can be done by our veterinary nursing team or our veterinary surgeons. It involves using an ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar and using a paste to make those teeth smell fresh and look pearly white.

Beautiful Bella has lost two kilograms on a weight loss journey with Wakefield Vets4Pets – and owner Hayley says she's much more active, playful and affectionate as a result. "She just seems generally less grumpy as well – she probably felt how we do when we've overindulged!"

When Bella came in for her booster vaccination a year ago the team noted that she was overweight and would need to slim down to help her live a long and happy life. Since then the three-year-old house cat has been put on a special diet and she's now lost a third of her weight. Hayley said: "We're incredibly grateful to the team at Vets for Pets. They've given us some great advice and tips to keep the weight down. They are so approachable and we've never felt judged by them."

Head veterinary nurse Jess said: "Bella has been on her weight loss journey for over a year now and she's seen once a month for basically Waggy Weightwatchers as we call it. The owners have stuck with the plan very well and took note of everything we have told them, which is great. A 2kg loss is quite a substantial loss for a cat, so she's done really well."

Ten-month-old Filemon is on the mend after he fell behind a wardrobe and fractured one of his front legs in three places.

He was taken to the specialist orthopaedic team at Vets4Pets Cross Hands in Llanelli by his owners Kasia and Andrzej where he had surgery to repair the bone with implants. The main recovery barriers for Filemon were possible nerve damage, and keeping him quiet long enough to give his bone and wound time to heal – which veterinary nurse Rebecca says is no easy task for a cat owner. She said: "Thankfully, with the help of his diligent owner and plenty of the right medication, Filemon is recovering well and has full range of motion in his leg."

Kasia said: "We'd like to say a massive thank you to the Vets for Pets team for doing an amazing job to get Filemon back on his four legs! After surgery Filemon was in a crate for six weeks which wasn't easy for him being such a young and playful kitten. It's now been two months since the surgery and he's recovering really well. He's enjoying himself again just like before the accident."

Meet Jimmy, thanks to his microchip, he was reunited with his family after 2 years!

In 2021, Jimmy was suspected to be involved in a road traffic accident in which his owners were told he didn't make it. After straying for 2 years, a member of the public brought him into Doncaster Vets4Pets where our team scanned him for a microchip. After a quick call to his owners, our team were able to reunite him with his owners. We do love a happy ending💚

Storm visited Preston Capitol Vets4Pets after she got a stick stuck up her nose on a walk. The team used an otoscope to help find the stick inside her nasal passage. After using general anaesthetic, they used forceps to pull our the stick that was tightly wedged. After the removal, Storm was back to her usual happy self 💚

Cookie visited Vets4Pets Harlow after her owner noticed her eyes had become cloudy and sore. Luckily, her owner had seen this before and knew she had to act quickly. Cookie had suffered from hay pokes, where bits of hay can scratch or pierce the eye. After being put under local anaesthetic, the team were able to remove the tiny pieces of hay and get Cookie feeling a lot more comfortable.

Well done to Cookie's owner, our team, and of course, Cookie💚
