ππΎ Keep the Peace this Halloween! πΎπ
Not all dogs are fans of the Halloween hullabaloo, and thatβs perfectly okay! If yours prefer a quiet night in, weβve got just the solution.
Our βNo Trick or Treating Hereβ sign below is free to download for anyone who wants a copy! Let visitors know that your dog would rather snuggle up on the sofa than deal with the creepy chaos π€
There is of course an unwritten rule about if your house is not decorated, then you're not participating... But just in case, this sign will hopefully cover the bases and keep spooky sounds and unexpected visitors at bay.
Why might some dog homes prefer to skip the Halloween fun?
Costumes can be unnerving: Many dogs aren't accustomed to masks and may find hoods, helmets, and hats that obscure otherwise friendly faces threatening. Some of those strange outfits and elaborate costumes can be downright scary.
Doorbell overload: The constant ringing and desire to investigate can disrupt their routine and lead to anxiety.
Stranger danger: For some pups, unfamiliar faces can be stressful, especially when theyβre in the comfort of their own home. This is especially true for small children, whose unpredictable movements and high energy can be overwhelming.
Sensory sensitivity: The dark and spooky, wet and windy autumn evenings can be particularly unsettling for sensory-impaired dogs, making this holiday even more challenging.
Flight risk: Opening and closing the front door repeatedly can encourage stressed or anxious dogs to bolt, especially if they are new to your home, such as foster or rescue pups.
New family dynamics: Some dogs may have recently become big brothers or sisters (with a sleeping baby in the house!), or new parents of a litter of puppies, and might prefer to keep things calm and quiet for their little ones.
Please print it out and hang it on your door to keep the Halloween excitement outside, allowing your pup to snooze soundlyπ€
I promise weβre not party poopersβwe just want our dogs to feel settled and calm. If your dog isnβt keen on the trick-or-treating scene, let them enjoy a cosy night while the festivities happen elsewhere!
