⚠️🚨🎇 WARNING FIREWORKS THIS SATURDAY🎇🚨⚠️

Gulliver's World is have a end of season fireworks display on Saturday, starting about 8.30-8.45pm. Although, lots of fun, each year WAW has calls off owners whose dogs had been spooked by fireworks - with some being involved in RTAs after running off after hearing loud bangs 😕🥺

To make things as easy as possible for your pets, here are a few of our top tips for keeping them calm whilst the fireworks are on:

🎇 Be prepared. If you know your pet reacts badly during firework season, contact your local Vet practice beforehand where our they can advise on a variety of methods to either desensitise your pet to the noise or reduce the signs of stress.

🎇 Make sure your cat or dog has a nice warm bed in a comfortable corner where he or she feels safe and secure.

🎇 Draw your curtains and close all the windows to reduce the noise from outside and put some music or the television on to help drown out the fireworks.

🎇 On days when you know there will be fireworks, give your dog a good walk during the day so that they are tired in the evening and more likely to snooze their way through all the commotion.

🎇 Don’t get caught out still outside with your dog once the fireworks start. Your pets needs to be safe and secure inside the house well before the bangs start to avoid them running away and getting lost.

🎇 If your dog shows any of the signs of stress described above, try to ignore the behaviour. We know this is really hard as you just want to comfort them but giving your dog extra fuss when they are showing signs of stress can make the situation worse.

🎇 Never punish your dog for their behaviour when they are under stress. This will only confirm to them that there is something to be afraid of and make them worse.
