May is veterinary nurse awareness month

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful, super skilled vet nurses we have here at White Cross vets St Helens.

We would like to introduce you to Courtney .

Hi I’m Courtney, a Veterinary Nurse working between St Helens and Widnes White Cross Vets. I have a keen interest in exotic patients and I’m working towards my small mammal certificate.

From a very young age I’ve always wanted to work in the Veterinary profession because of my passion for animals and caring nature. I have 12 animals myself, which are a cocker spaniel, bearded dragon, 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 3 hamsters and 3 turtles, they all keep me very busy caring for their needs outside of work.

May is veterinary nurse awareness month

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful, super skilled vet nurses we have here at White Cross vets St Helens.

Hello I’m Ellie, a student nurse at White Cross St Helens!

After studying animals for 3 years prior, this motivated me to become a member of the veterinary sector and challenge myself to gain a deeper understanding of patient care. I enjoy all aspects of veterinary nursing including preventative medicine and emergency care. I particularly enjoy consulting.

Although I struggle with my health, I was happy to find a fantastic and supportive practice, which has played a big part in helping me progress with the ultimately difficult veterinary nurse degree (along with all the animals of course).

My studies extend outside of work as I am constantly learning and gaining new information to use on a day to day basis. I’m always thrilled to meet everyone’s chosen family members and assist them in any way I can.

Thanks for reading and perhaps I’ll see you soon :)

Mollie is our Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA). She has been with us for 6 months but been working in practice since 2021, with a short break teaching animal care. Mollie has a bachelor's degree in Zoology and is completing a master's degree in Animal Nutrition. In her spare time, Mollie enjoys going to the cinema, music events and long walks with her cocker spaniel, Woody. She is looking forward to her training to become a registered veterinary nurse.

She is pictured here giving Chester a snuggle.

Continuing with our 'meet the nurses' we would like to introduce you to Anna.

Anna loves nursing all species but has a real passion for improving the welfare of the small furries and wildlife that come to the practice. She has a special interest in ferret care and this has led her to devote her time to running ferret clinics and devoting a social media account solely dedicated to ferret care. She has delivered CPD to veterinary professionals to help improve the treatment of ferrets in general practice.
She has completed an advanced nursing programme in small mammal and wildlife.
When not in work she can be found spending time with her pet ferrets or looking for bats with her bat detector.

May is veterinary nurse awareness month

Continuing with our 'meet the nurses' we would like to introduce you to Louise.

Louise is our senior nurse here at White Cross St Helens.

She qualified as a nurse in 2012 but has worked in practice for several years previously.
She has a keen interest in behaviour and has completed various extra study in the area - most recently gaining her certificate in small animal behaviour. Her interest in behaviour started with her old Collie, Maggie who hated coming to the vets (and lot's of other things!) It sparked a passion to help other worried dogs feel less scared coming to the practice. She now works with pets and their owners on common behaviour concerns during special behaviour consults. She also works behind the scenes to ensure vet visits are as low stress as possible for all our patients, particularly our pets staying in for surgery.

At home, Louise has two dogs. Betty - a 14 year old Springer Spaniel cross & Jimmy an 8 month old Cavalier King Carles Spaniel. She also has cat (Pixie) and two human children. Her hobbies include spending weekends in Wales with the family at their caravan where the dogs love a trip to the beach or the lake for a swim.

Hedgehogs are nocturnal and will usually be active at night. 🦔

You might see one during the day if their nest has been disturbed or they're struggling to find food.

Sometimes it's a sign they are sick or injured and need your help. Here's how to tell: https://bit.ly/3QgT8yq
