🐶🍖 When the Treats Come Out... Suddenly, They Remember Everything! 😂Ever feel like your dog has selective hearing? One minute, they’ve “forgotten” how to sit, and the next—oh look, treats!—they’re the best-trained dog!Food is an amazing tool for dog training—it helps reinforce good behaviour and keeps your pup motivated. But be careful! If your dog only listens when they see the treats, they might have trained YOU instead! 🤔🐕👉 Pro tip: When using food rewards, avoid always having treats in your hand or reaching for your pocket/treat pouch—your dog might start relying on that as a cue! Instead, mix things up by incorporating other rewards like toys and play. Find what truly motivates your dog so they learn to respond, even when treats aren’t present 🐶✨#DogTraining #PositiveReinforcement #selectivehearing#DogTrainerTips #ObedientButOnlyForSnacks #TreatMotivated #DogLogic

🎆Firework season is upon us and it’s okay to calmly reassure your dogs if they are wanting to sit with you.
🎇Give them the safe space they are seeking if they are worried by the noises.
Last week I met Aroura and her owner!
Loose lead walking was something they were having a bit of trouble with. She’s a strong dog and was finding it hard to focus on her owner when out in the roads.
After working on some focus and going over some lead walking foundations she was walking beautifully by the end of the session!
Her owner did such a good job and understands the key to loose lead walking success is consistency!
Well done guys 🏅
Do you use a release cue in your training? Most importantly does your dog understand?
Using a cue that lets the dog know they can break position or end a behaviour you are asking for can really help bring clarity to your training.
There are many opportunities we can uses it for within out training, for example releasing the dog off their bed or target station, releasing them through the door, which is great to help to teach them not to rush through doors or even releasing the dog for their meals once placed down at tea time.
My guys have a pretty good understanding of their release cue (apart form Gino who was sticking around just to check there were no snacks going in this video).
I will quite often use the release from a behaviour/position as a reward. Here for example I had called the dogs to the side while a few bikes went past. Now I don’t want the final bike going past to be a cue for the dogs to carry on with their walk, I want then to listen out for their cue. So I had a little play around using other words that have no meaning to my dogs to keep proofing my release cue and make sure they are listening. The movement and carrying on the walk was use to reward the dogs for stopping and standing still while they bikes went past.
So next time you take a few minutes aside to teach your dog something, maybe think about teaching a release cue. Keep an eye on out our instagram page, I will be posting a little intro to teaching a release cue in the next few days.
* Not every dog in the video understands the relate cue - It was just a fun video Anna from hound and handler took when we were out on a walk!
No wonder it takes me so long to get the admin side of the business done 😂

What can I say he takes his job as a working cocker very seriously!
Mealtimes in a multi dog house hold!
When I am preparing my dogs meals I want them to wait calmly for the food, which for me means no whining or tippy taps on the laminate flooring of a pacing pup. My guys have been trained to stay on the rug in the hall while I am weighing out their food, they are then released with their cue “okay” then each dog goes to the area where they are fed.
Having some structure around meal times is something that was important to me to help prevent any problems around meal times.
Now for each household, what they want/expect from their dogs will differ and that’s absolutely fine! But a few of my top tip are:
- Make sure each dog has their own bowl ( yes I have seen some that give multiple dogs one bowl to share… I wouldn’t want my family sticking their heads in my tea 😂)
- Teach your dogs to not approach each others bowls while another is eating to help prevent any resource guarding. Until they can be trusted put measures in place to prevent it from happening for example putting them in another room.
- Give each dog their own area or space so they can enjoy their meals in peace.
And final tip from Gino is make sure there is something extra tasty in there!
