Looking for his forever home.
This gorgeous brown rosetted boy Nevaeh Renegade is looking for his new home before Christmas, he is registered with the GCCF, fully health tested, vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Treatments for internal and external parasites are up to date. He was born in August this year and is 15 weeks old. He is a fabulous, playful boy who will settle easily in his new home, a complete lovebug, loves a lap to snuggle up on and purrs like a steam train. His temperament is lovely, he uses his litter tray and isn’t a fussy eater.
All my cats leave with a pet contract, GCCF registration card, pedigree certificate, a goodie bag which includes some samples of food that he has been eating, a small amount of litter, toys and bedding. I am asking a reasonable fee for a quality pedigree boy, if you feel you can offer a fabulous furrever home please PM for full details.

The specialist veterinary team at Edinburgh University are warning vets about an outbreak of TB in raw fed cats.

Although so far only 11 cases have been confirmed, TB is not a condition many vets will think about because it is so unusual, the symptoms are vague and can mimic other conditions and the testing needed for a diagnosis is very specific.

It is also extremely serious, sadly 8 of the infected cats have already been euthanased and it can make humans very ill as well. Which is why it is important that the word is spread.

All the cats so far diagnosed were fed the same raw diet. They were mainly indoor cats and did not drink raw milk, so had no other risk factors that might have caused the disease.

The company impacted is aware but has not yet been named and the vets are at pains to point out that they appear to have followed all the regulatory requirements and that this is simply an inherent risk (albeit thankfully a low one) of raw feeding.

As yet, as far as I am aware, a recall hasn't been issued.

Infected cats have presented with weight loss, coughing (a real concern as this could increase the ability of the disease to spread, particularly to people), abdominal abnormalities and were often very poorly by the time a diagnosis is made. Their blood tests generally only show non-specific changes like a mild anaemia.

Although TB in cats can present with skin lesions, this strain (similar to the last time this happened) appears to mainly cause respiratory signs and abnormalities may well be seen on chest x-rays.

If a lung wash is performed the bacteria might be identified but any vets doing one on a suspicious case must take care to wear PPE to protect themselves.

If you are concerned you might have a case, the team at Edinburgh, which includes Danielle Gunn-Moore and Conor O'Halloran, are very happy to help and advise you.

They have this webpage which is great; https://www.ed.ac.uk/vet/services/small-animals/vet-professional/specialist-services/feline/mycobacteria and advice on suspected cases from this outbreak will be given free of charge.

You can also contact Conor directly on [email protected]

And don't forget that TB is a notifiable disease, so the APHA must be contacted, and they are also a good source of support.

If you are a cat owner who raw feeds and you are worried, the best people to speak to for information and, hopefully, reassurance are your veterinary team and the company who produces the meals you feed.

It is also worth noting the difference between this problem, with a specific subset of infected animals, similar symptoms, a definitive diagnosis, a common diet and specialist vets at the forefront of raising the alert… and the the issues claimed with Purina pet food at the start of this year, which had none of these typical hallmarks of a genuine food related illness outbreak.

For more information about TB in cats, this article from the Edinburgh team, written in 2019, is very helpful; https://www.ed.ac.uk/vet/services/small-animals/information-about-cat-tb **But do note the company mentioned in it is in relation to the outbreak at the time, not this one**

I cant take the credit for writing this but 👌
Your purchase of a well bred cat does not sentence another cat to PTS in a shelter.
Your purchase of a well bred, purpose bred cat does not cause an increase in the number of cats in shelter.
You wanting a cat with a predictable temperament from healthy lineage does not cause another cat to not get adopted.
Your meticulous research and support of only the most responsible of breeders is not the problem.
It is not what others should be mad at.
It is not what others should be pushing the blame onto.
You are not the one who brought these unwanted cats into the world irresponsibly. Responsible breeders are not the ones who put cats into shelters either.
It is your home, your life and your choice of what kind of cat to bring into it.
No matter the reason, your choice to support a reputable breeder did not send a cat to a shelter.
A breeder who health tests, temperament tests, proves a cat worthy of being bred, and only breeds when doing so is of benefit to the breed is not contributing to the number of homeless cats.
The number of homeless cats in the world is a problem, but it is not a problem exacerbated by reputable breeders and those who purchase from them.
Your neighbour down the street who refuses to contain his unaltered cat IS contributing to the problem. Your friend who impulse bought a cat IS contributing to the problem.
The guy on gumtree pumping out crossbreeds as fast as he can IS contributing to the problem. Your friend or relative who just HAS to let their cat have one litter "so she can experience motherhood" IS contributing to the problem.
Your old high school classmate who bought a high energy breed without taking the time to research its needs and realise it was not a good fit for their household ahead of time IS contributing to the problem.
A reputable breeder offers their lifelong support to every kitten they produce. A reputable breeder would never allow their cats to end up in a shelter to begin with.
A reputable breeder makes it a contractual obligation to return cats they have produced back to them should you find yourself unable to keep it.
It is understandable to be angry about the number of homeless cats in the world, but if you take a deeper look, you will find the anger is misplaced.
If you take a deeper look, you will find reputable breeders and those who purchase from them are just as angry, we are just pointing fingers at the right causes.
Adopt OR shop.
Do your research.
Educate yourself.
Support responsible rescues and responsible preservation breeders.
Do what is best for you.
Do it responsibly.

Another lovely recommendation 😻
Nevaeh Polar-Express (Louis) & Nevaeh Phantasia (Coco)

Dear Emma & Ann
Both Louis & Coco have settled in very quickly to their new home, the attached pictures are taken within the first week of arrival. Yesterday day 5, they had their kitten check up at the vets, all perfect and compliments to the breeder, they were amazing, very well behaved and not frightened at all by noises. They love routine, when they go to bed we don't hear them till we get up then next morning.
A big thank you to Emma & Ann for rearing very affectionate, social kittens, also all the great advise given if needed. We are so happy with our new additions we love so very much!
Both Louis & Coco would like to pass on a big thank you to Emma & Ann for their wonderful kitten pack, full of goodies so very thoughtful & kind.
