My youngest assistant helping to clean water troughs! ๐ง
Took this a couple of weeks ago now, but how pretty does this lane look through these ears ๐ I named this road 'Garlic Lane' probably 20 years ago now, and here it is beautifully demonstrating that it is still living up to its name! ๐ฟ๐ง
Should have taken some 'before' photos of the winter field gateways to compare to these. It's hard to believe that only just over a week ago, we were questioning whether it was dry enough to risk the field change; now here we are with all the winter fields harrowed, and most of the way through the rolling.
I'm never any less amazed at how well the fields recover, despite seeing it happen each year - it always seems impossible when the mud is at its worst!
We have been waiting for this day for what feels like forever this year - finally changed turnout onto the fresh fields, after a very wet and muddy winter. Just two of the five fields of happy horses and ponies today ๐โ๏ธ
I haven't posted anything for a long time, so thought this pretty morning sky over the yard, taken a few weeks ago by a livery, seemed a good place to start again! ๐ Please tell us better weather is on it's way now ๐ It has been suuuuuch a long winter ๐ฉ
Anyone who knows Hay Lake, knows 'Snowdrop Lane'! We spotted the first snowdrop in flower this week... before we know it, it'll be a sea of white ๐ค
Can you see it in the photo?!
A belated Happy Christmas from all of us at Hay Lake ๐
Christmases with animals make for a very different day to the 'normal' that many others will know. Our day felt very short between Daddy milking cows and Mummy having 11 horses to bring in amongst other jobs, but the children got stuck in and here is Imogen bringing in her soggy pony yesterday afternoon! ๐งก
Boxing Day today, and we have both just finished our morning work and come home to most of the presents still here under the tree, waiting to be opened! ๐
Final arena installment... Topped with fibre and mixed in. Really pleased with the result from all the hard work CJ Arenas. Professional equestrian Arenas put in. Thank you ๐๐
Here is the first part of last weeks work carried out by CJ Arenas. Professional equestrian Arenas... addition of stone and new membrane on one side, to aid drainage; and 60T of new sea sand spread and graded.
Finished result to follow... ๐
Forgot to share the start of this exciting project back in September... one side of the sand school fence completely replaced, and the rest refurbished.
Watch this space for Phase 2, which began yesterday!
Itโs been a sleepy sort of day! ๐ด
Anyone else mad enough to go cleaning out water troughs in the pouring rain ๐ง this afternoon? โฆNo, thought not, just me then! ๐
We have lost another of our ponies to Ireland ๐ฎ๐ช so have a space available. Please contact me if you are interested, and we can discuss whether or not you and your horse/pony might be the correct fit for our yard ๐
We have a wonderful group of lovely, friendly, settled ladies and horses at the moment, and keeping a happy yard is of utmost importance to us ๐๐ด
Love a pretty sky ๐ ๐

(Photo of the sheep enjoying a very green November! ๐)
Have had a busy, itchy, couple of weeks clipping - only took photos of these two, but this chestnut has definitely been my best client so farโฆ might be biased since I bred him ๐ but gorgeous Bailey was super well behaved ๐คฉ๐ด
Awful awful footage - this turned my stomach โน๏ธ Please, please, pass horses wide and slow ๐ ๐ ๐ด
Footage shows Grace's horse was spooked and slammed into the side of the truck as it sped past
๐จ Still looking for an instructor๐จ
We are still searching for someone (or more than one) to teaching in afternoons during the week and then the full sessions at the weekend (this is to cover myself whilst Iโm off on maternity and hopefully permanently after as well ๐ค๐ป)
My plan was to have a phased introduction during October to be fully covered by the beginning of November however this is creeping closer by the minute!
The morning hours during the week for teaching have now been covered!! Yay ๐
My normal teaching hours are as follows:
Monday Pm - 2-6
Tuesday - closed
Wednesday Pm - 2-6.30
Thursday Pm - 2-6
Friday pm - 2.30-6
Saturday - 8-4
Sunday - 8-1
If you would be interested in some or all of these hours, then please get in touch! If not please share share share to help us find someone for our lovely little riding school!!
Thanks,
Laura and Tracey
Anyone else?! ๐
Guilty!
Can anybody spot the mischievous hens?! ๐๐๐
These two boys are looking for a new ๐
2 friendly 2yo castrated male Zwartble sheep. Suitable for pets ๐ค
Pm for more info if you think you can give them a happy and loving home ๐
These girls (and boy!) were pleased to finally be allowed back outside from Monday, after their lockdown ๐๐
Good luck to Millie and Tilly, competing in their first ever affiliated BE event at Port Eliot tomorrow ๐๐ Kick on!!
Always amazes me how quickly the Winter fields recover, despite how bad they can look by the end of the season. The horses came out of their winter fields on 26th March, and within a month, you can already see here that the top side of the field where they wintered, is looking greener again than the bottom side is that they moved into and are grazing at the moment ๐โ๏ธ

Choose to be grateful.
I turned my horses out this morning, wishing their paddocks were just a little bit closer so I could have an extra 10 minutes in bed. 1500 miles away, horse owners are walking their beloved friends to forests and fields and letting them go, hoping they have given them the best chance of survival, not knowing if theyโll ever see them again.
I walked down to the arena yesterday, looking to the sky, cursing the rain as it fell. 1500 miles away they are stood watching the sky for missles and planes, praying that the distant explosions donโt get any closer.
I complained about the price of fuel today, how was I supposed to pay for that on top of hay, shoes, training and entry fees? 1500 miles away owners are risking their lives for a bale of hay or bag of feed after deliveries were unable to reach people and supplies were exhausted.
I started to make a plan working towards my first event of the season today and found myself frustrated at the lack of places to do some good canter work. 1500 miles away, people are just praying theyโll survive the next 24 hours. They are simply grateful for every passing minute their barns are left standing and that they are still breathing.
I sat in traffic today, annoyed that I might not make it home with time to ride. 1500 miles away, people are sheltering underground for days as their cities and hometowns are surrounded, with no means or way of escaping.
So today, let go of the little things and choose to be grateful.
Be grateful that all you see in the sky is clouds.
Be grateful that your house and yard is still standing.
Be grateful that your horse is stood eating hay or out grazing without threat.
Be grateful that you can still ride and enjoy your horses.
Be grateful that you, and your horses, are safeโฆ and pray for those that arenโt.
