⚠️Laminitis ⚠️
Even though we are in November, don’t let that put you off guard ! With these above average temperatures for this time of the year, the grass is still good and growing.

Been a long road for this fella and his owner! But today we had a very nice sound walk 😀🤞🏼
He had hoof wall separation, which is a bacterial and fungal degenerative condition and attacks the white line and hoof wall.

As time went on the cavity in the hoof capsule got bigger, so the only way forward was to remove the outer wall so I could get to the degenerative material.
Problem he has then was feeling the pinch due to the amount of wall I had to remove. So that’s when I fitted a spider plate and impression material so we could spread the weight bearing load around his hoof.
A couple shoeings in he’s still not 100% but now after having X Rays we are happy there is nothing sinister underneath, so I can cover that area with resin. Pro-Glu Ltd.

Today he’s striding out so let’s keep our fingers crossed 🤞🏼

This girl was in a bit of a pickle couple months ago. I applied the clog which definitely gave her more comfort.
Couple of weeks ago she had these X Rays done and was showing more signs of acute pain. As you can see by the amount of growth I had to make some dramatic changes! However clog is now too big and I felt she would be ok to be nailed too. She took it like a champ 😀👍🏼
So I fitted a reverse shoe and 3D graduated pad with impression material.
Just had a phone call to say she’s massively improved 😀👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 so fingers crossed she keeps getting better 🤞🏼

Today we had this big fella who’s been struggling with a few ailments.
Bone spavin (arthritis in the hock joint) so after chatting to the vet we have decided to raise his heels as this will reduce the compression on his hock joint, especially as he has a bone spur. I have hand made the heel blocks and prefabricated them on to the shoes.

In one hind foot he has a sheared heel, which is a loss of function between the bulb of heel and frog, this can be sore for the horse so I have prefabricated a bar across the shoe so it can immobilise the hoof capsule preventing from on going shearing.

Fabricated egg bar shoes in front to help with balance and give extra caudal support.

This chap I’ve been shoeing just over a year. It’s been very up and down. I started with ibex and dim and was getting on results but I was never happy with the angle of that near fore!
Last few shoeings we have had a flat 3D print pad and we are getting more structure to that very low heel on the near fore. However he’s still struggling on the bend like 1/10 lame. So this time I’ve gone with the 3 degree pad. Wow I wish I did that a few shoeings ago!

Let’s hope we get some good feed back from the rider! Here are some pics …

Here’s a few more pics from the last few days.
First one is a tb mare I’ve only shod twice. After speaking to Freddy the osteopath this mare has been suffering with real tight hamstrings, proximal gluteals and caudal/lumbar longissimus.
Which is why they always stand camped under, like they're trying to offload the suspensory and DFTs, shorten the hams, disengage the glutes and brace through the lumbar area.

So this is why I’ve gone with the 3 degree wedge 3D print pad and DIM.
As you can appreciate by the before and after pictures, it’s uplifted her fetlock, this will certainly reduce the pull on the ddft and suspensory. She’s having X Rays very soon so will keep you posted … 😉

Last week I put a 3 degree 3D print pad on this TB, which runs point to point. As you can see on the before pictures I’ve previously tried to give him as much support at the heel roll the toes and set them back. Well… that wasn’t enough as his HPA is still well out. And this chap gets corns for a past time!

Not only have we jacked the heels up but the frog support on this pad will give central loading for this horse which means less bearing forces on the heels causing corns.

Can’t wait to see how he’s getting on 😀👍🏼

🚨 Laminitis 🚨 this poor mare took a turn for the worst. Today I applied a clog with soft impression material and hoof casting tape.
Certainly more comfortable when she went back to her stable. Fingers crossed now!

Today on this horse, I gave him an 8mm heel lift in front with rolled toe. This was to correct his Hoof Pastern Axis (HPA)
His HPA before shoeing is broken back. Not ideal for the joints in his lower limb and tendons that run over the joint. So by raising the heels we are reducing the horses break over time thus less pull on the tendons and joints.

The hind feet have been fitted with a Lateral extension shoe as the horse suffers with hock arthritis (Spavin) the horse will naturally load laterally as pain is towards the medial side, therefore extension to support the limb.
