Meet Tank!

Tank came yesterday for his castrate. Tank is a Rottweiler cross Staffy but due to his measurements, he could easily be mistaken as an XL bully. His owners had to apply for the XL bully exemption and had him castrated to protect him.

Tank had a muzzle on with fantastic features that we wanted to highlight as we think a lot muzzle wearing dogs should follow suit. As you can see from the photo, the muzzle has an easy access hole for treats so he can easily drink, eat and have plenty of treats! The shape and size is also tailored to Tank’s head shape to ensure it is comfortable and secure around his face (Bully breeds often have bigger and rounder heads that don’t fit well in a baskerville muzzle). The most important feature is the room to pant. Tank could easily pant with a wide open mouth, which is very important especially with the hot weather. Remember dogs pant when they are stressed, tired and hot so there should always be room to pant. We also appreciated how well he was muzzle trained as he happily wore the muzzle when he needed to. ☺️

Tank is a very sweet and friendly boy! He had lots of cuddles from our staff members and we loved having him in today!

Muzzled dogs are good dogs too!

Hello June!!

From 10 June 2024, cats in England will need to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old. Kittens can still be microchipped when they’re in for their neuters as long as they will be under 20 weeks old.

You can be fined up £500 if your cat is not microchipped when it should be. Ring in to the practice if your cat has not been microchipped and we can help you out. If they are microchipped, please make sure their details are up to date!

🐱May is feline hypertension awareness month 🐱

Leon is a 13 year old Bengal who had his blood pressure checked by RVN Kelly at his annual vaccinations. Leon has had his blood pressure checked during his MOT to make sure he is not showing any signs of hypertension at his age. He wasn’t bothered by the whole process as he was too busy enjoying some tasty treats!

🩸Hypertension or high blood pressure is a common condition affecting 1 in 5 cats over the age of 9. It is known as the silent killer as unless you check it, it isn’t something you can detect until it is too late. Persistent high blood pressure is dangerous as it can cause target organ damage which affects the eyes, heart, brain and kidneys. High blood pressure can speed up progression of chronic kidney disease, lead to heart failure and even blindness from retinal detachment.

🩸All of the above sound really scary but fear not! Your cat’s (and dog’s) blood pressure can easily be checked in practice. They are often done by our nurses and during any wellness check. We regularly monitor blood pressure when your pet is under anaesthetic too. It’s quick and simple and you get a free blood pressure check annually if you’re a member of the Pet Health Club.

🩸Cats from 7 years old and above should be having annual blood pressure checks. Anything above 10, should have checks every 6-12 months. We sometimes request a few readings as we need to take into account the “white coat” syndrome. We try and make the process as stress free as possible with treats or doing it in the room with you.

🩸Ring the practice to book in your cat’s annual blood pressure check or speak to our staff members if you’re interested. You can even ask the vet if you’re in for a vaccine if you want your pet’s blood pressure checked.

Winterley refurbishment client reminder....
From tomorrow, Monday 13th May, our Winterley main reception area will be closed for a couple of days, to improve our client waiting area.

There will be a temporary reception area at the entrance to our cat clinic, so please report here on arrival at the clinic.

Our cat ward is also being refurbished during the same week, so you may have been asked to go to Elworth for your appointments and procedures. We will be running a reduced service at Winterley, with the majority of our team working from our Elworth clinic.

Thanks for bearing with us during the disruption to our normal service. We are still here to help at all times, but we will just be working slightly differently for a short while.

We look forward to sharing the improvements with you and your pets very soon.

What a glorious day for Haslington's annual fun day 😎🔆Cheshire Pet Sandbach are proud to sponsor the dog show once again.

We're looking forward to hearing if any of our client's and their dogs win any of the classes. Post some pictures if you're there with your pooches.

Don't forget to provide plenty of water whilst out in the sun, and let your dogs enjoy some cool shade or stay indoors when you get home.

Enjoy 🙂

Meet Naomi! Naomi qualified in 2016 from the University of Bristol and has also obtained an anaesthesia certificate since then. Other than her nursing duties, she is our radiation protection adviser (RPA). She’s also in charge of stock control and doing orders so your medication arrives on time and our shelves aren’t empty!

Outside of work, Naomi enjoys baking and is excellent with it! We’re very lucky to be able to enjoy her bakes regularly 😋 Naomi has a pet tortoise called Archie who’s been with her for about 10 years. She loves working with cats and we keep trying to get her to adopt every stray we get (but to no avail-yet) 🤣

Happy World Receptionist day!

Big thank you to our fabulous reception team, Mel R, Clare, Mel T and Laura! What would we do without them? They’re the first friendly face you see when you enter the practice and they’re always ready to welcome you whether you have an appointment or picking up some medication.

They are always looking after the team by helping to rearrange or move any appointments so you are still seen but the team is not overwhelmed. They’re always ready to help when needed and make things run at Cheshire Pet a lot smoother. We are so grateful to have such a fantastic team of receptionists! ♥️

Please also remember to always be kind and courteous to the reception team who are only trying to do their job.

Thank you reception for always being fantastic and a great asset to Cheshire Pet!

VNAM 2024

Meet RVN Kelly! Kelly qualified in 2019 and also has a certificate in feline nursing. Her main interest is patient care, feline nursing and schedule 3 procedures.

Schedule 3 are procedures that nurses can do under vet guidance. These include but not limited to: stitch-ups, mass removals, digit and tail amputations. Kelly did a course to help improve her schedule 3 skills and since then she has been putting them into practice. We are always impressed by her skills and the neatness of her work!

In her free time, Kelly enjoys doing crafts and embroidery which has really benefited her instrument handling and suturing skills at work! Kelly owns a GSD called Stella, guinea pig Ant (sadly Dec passed away last year) and a few chickens.
