ARE YOUR BOYS ALL IN ORDER?
50% of your flock's fertility is reliant upon your rams firing on all cylinders.... But they are often overlooked in a flock despite playing a vital role in your fertility and lambing percentages... Rams should be checked over at least 6-8 weeks pre-tupping

As a practice we recognize this and are offering ram MOTs at a very competitive rate. We focus on the 5 Ts during an examination...
Toes
Teeth
Testicles
Tone - BCS
Treat - Vaccination status

Then, any ram with suspect results we offer semen analysis to check everything is as it should be...

BULL FERTILITY EXAMINATIONS

With calving approaching it's conclusion and the grass growing nicely whilst the ground begins to dry out, now is the time to think about your bull. Your bull accounts for 50% of your herd's genetics and 50% of your herd's fertility. It is vital that he is firing on all cylinders prior to being turned out to work again this summer.

Nick and Catherine head into their second year of offering routine bull fertility examinations on farm including full semen analysis. The uptake on testing and the reassurance provided for the upcoming breeding season has been well received by the many who took the plunge with us last year.

Calving season has fully arrived. Sometimes a 4am wake up call isn't the worst ⏰

This huge fella was never going to make it out the conventional way so Catherine and Nick delivered him out the side door... Who needs the gym in the morning!

Tea and biscuits and the sunrise straight afterwards - what more could you want...

STAFF UPDATE - To all our friends and clients who may still be surprised the old boy is still going, Michael Smalley is to be semi-retiring at the end of December 2023 but is not going to be disappearing off into the sunset forever just yet..

We all know he will be missed and he has kindly written a few words below to explain his new role...

I will still be working normally on the clinical side as a farm and equine vet for 1-2 days a week on average instead of 5 days from 2024 onwards plus helping on the admin side. Sort of consultant/general dogsbody. I am retiring from the partnership and joining the other foot soldiers in the amazing White Mill army which will continue to march forward against the corporate forces stacked up against us. White Mill is a very special place and is the only large (9/10 vet) independent mixed practice in the whole of Kent if not all of Southern England. I am looking forward to continuing to help our practice flourish in the future in partnership with one of the best teams from cleaner through to vet we have ever assembled. I have been one of the bosses here for 37 years and it has been a privilege but I need a little more free time to start my bucket list, which yes, does include getting 2 new knees and maybe going on a course to learn how to tell the time better – my sundial is too old fashioned and inaccurate apparently. Love Michael Smalley.
