🦔 This week is Hedgehog Awareness Week 🦔 Hedgehog Awareness Week is organised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) and it takes place every year and helps to highlight the problems hedgehogs face.

Through campaigns and educational projects, the BHPS raises awareness for how we can help these much-loved creatures. 🐾 May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month 🐾 I am very proud of my work as a veterinary nurse and all the animals I have helped in my career. It is a very rewarding job but does have highs and lows. One of my main roles as an RVN is ensuring your pets are always cared for like they are my own.

🐾 Beach Update 🐾 This past week I have purposefully taken my dog to Robin hoods bay/Boggle hole beach and monitored him for any signs of him becoming ill. Fingers crossed so far he has been absolutely fine 😁 He swims and explores but does not eat or pick up anything on the beach (I know rare for a Labrador!). My advice for beach walking now would be to enjoy the beaches but as always be vigilant with what dogs eat or pick up while out walking.

Whether they are just getting a little older or you have questions about their puppy development I can help and advise you in the comfort of your own home. As a veterinary nurse I am not allowed to diagnose your pet with an illness but with over 12 years experience I am able to refer you to your vet if I find something that needs further investigations

🐾 Hopefully this is good news that our beaches are not the problem and we can safely take our pooches back to the seaside!

Please if your dog has been sick fill in the questionnaire to help with this study as several vets I have spoken to have not been asked to take part in the questionnaire in practice yet

🐾 An overwhelming response to my post yesterday - Thank you everyone who has shared it!

Unfortunately it looks like it has been even more rife than even I had anticipated - I would personally like to wish all the poorly pups a quick recovery ❤️‍🩹 and if your pet does become ill please call your vets and get treatment early.

I have had contact from several news and media people so hopefully this coverage and push will make the authorities look into the problem as well as notifying people to stay away for the time being! 🐾

🚫 Public Announcement 🚫

I work within several practices up and down the North East coast and we have recently been inundated with dogs coming off the beaches with vomiting and diarrhoea.

Personally until the local authorities have got to the bottom of it I would not recommend taking your pets on the beach for the foreseeable future.

I have been in touch with governing bodies and they are currently looking into it.

If your dog is showing symptoms please make the local authorities aware as well as seeking veterinary attention should your pet need it.

🐾 Look at those smiles, two happy customers! Every dog reacts to nail trimming differently especially if it is not something they have had done before. The trick is patience, treats and making it as stress free as possible! 🐾

It is so important to get your pets microchipped to allow them to be reunited quickly if they go missing.
