Important Announcement from Heather the Director of Alma Vets.

I have a strong sense of duty towards the welfare of animals in my care. This decision has not come lightly and I am very sad that I have to make changes that I have been trying hard to prevent for many years. With increasing expectations and medical advancements, our little practice is unable to cope with the demands on our out of hours service. Being the only available practice in the last year and with the veterinary sector suffering a crisis of rising costs, mental health problems, burnout and experienced vets leaving the industry, our small team is exhausted. There are simply not enough of us to staff the surgery 24 hours a day.
We have decided the best option for our clients is to use a specialist emergency service provider for times when the surgery is closed. We have chosen Aldgate in Bridlington because they are the closest veterinary hospital, easy to find and offer excellent quality care. This will help to reduce time taken for animals to be seen as their practice is permanently staffed.
It also means the team here at Alma Veterinary Surgery can concentrate on covering the normal hours more fully so that our team here can be healthier and ready to provide the best possible service from our surgery in Scarborough.
For those who are concerned about travelling to Bridlington, many local taxi drivers are very sympathetic and also we recommend Aunty Jane's Pet Services for transporting animals who's owner's are unable to drive.
While these changes are being made, our own service will be intermittently available. Please call our normal number on 01723360484 24 hours a day, you will be given instructions as to whether one of our vets is available and you'll be given a number to call.

Kind regards,
Heather
