Went to the wild flower place and they looked lovely, but they couldn’t tell me which wild flowers were growing, so didn’t want to risk poisoning the tortoise. So did my research and went to Irton garden centre to find edible plants for the tortoise boarder Michael and Penny .
I got mallow, Campanella, pansies, basil, geraniums, viola all now planted and readily growing for us to pick.
If anyone has any dandelions @ clover growing (which hasn’t been sprayed with anything) please drop at 200 Filey Rd, Scarborough. I struggle to go off road with my wheelchair to find them.

It’s like feeding time at the zoo. Michael our guest tortoise (big one) and Penny enjoying their tea. Sweet pepper, carrot, cucumber, grated carrot, tomatoes, strawberries, lettuce, cabbage, celery.
The rabbits have had the same .
They eat better than us.
Now to feed dogs and cats

CAYTON DECKING RESCUE. - This evening we were alerted to Cayton by two neighbours who had heard faint cries of kittens from under the decking, which couldn’t be reached by anyone, they managed to see one kitten and pulled him to safety. There was more crying, luckily the two neighbours set to, took fencing out, and dug under the decking. After about half an hour of looking with torches and carefully moving earth, 3 more kittens were brought to the surface, although these were very weak and they had soil in their mouths.

Still on site, we started opening their mouths and getting soil out and clearing their noses, we had heat pads ready and milk prepared waiting for them to be brought out from under the decking. They are around 8 days old, and we think they have not had Mum with them for over 24 hours because of the screaming.
They are now having fleas and ticks removed and are in our incubator, as they were extremely cold. We think that another hour and all the kittens would not have made it. Thank goodness that these two ladies were busy in the garden and heard their crying.

It is essential to our rescues that we have the help and support of the public, and we are so grateful that everyone looks out for animals in danger. We did pick up a 6 month old cat from about 30 metres away from here a day ago, who we think is pregnant. We are now thinking that maybe this could be Mum. She was found eating from a bin just round the corner on Main Street and had been hanging around for days. We will try to introduce them VERY carefully.

Please, if your cat has just had kittens and you have lost them, get in touch ASAP!

❌ RAPESEED! ❌

It’s that time of year again where farmers fields have blossomed into pretty yellow flowers, these plants are called rapeseed. Although it may be tempting to place your dog in the midst to take a scenic photo, please avoid this at all costs!

Rapeseed is extremely poisonous for dogs, especially in highly sensitive canines.

Rapeseed is listed by Dogs Trust as toxic to our dogs if ingested and can cause symptoms such as:

❌Haemolytic Anaemia
❌ Blindness
❌ Damaged Nervous System
❌ Digestive Disorders
❌ Breathing Problems

Even walking through these fields should be avoided! In June 2019, a dog was reported to be suffering from severe open wounds after running through a crop of rapeseed.

Please seek immediate veterinary attention if your dog shows any signs of rapeseed poisoning!

Some lovely pictures of a puppy we are providing pop home visits for. This customer has been using us for years with her previous dog who sadly had to be pts last year. Abbey is lovely and so well behaved.

‼️MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO DRIVE OFF AFTER HITTING A CAT‼️please share‼️
Countless cats are killed by cars daily and left to suffer on the road. it is still legal to dive away, unlike dogs which are covered by the Road Traffic Act 1988 which legally requires you to stop and report the incident to the police. Cats are still unrecognised as pets and unlike dogs seen as no more than roadkill in this outdated law.

Make it illegal to drive away after killing a cat

Today we heard the sad news of a dog we looked after has now gone over the rainbow bridge. Even though the owner was really sad she thanked us for the care we have given Bugsy and sent us a Congratulations card and present for us winning the Prestige Award second year running. Bugsy was featured in the winners magazine 2022/23 and will feature again this year when it’s published in December. We loved caring for Bugsy over the years. Shaun and I will really miss him. He was one of our first customers and he unfortunately had to be pts at age 15 as he was really struggling. Rest in peace Bugsy ###
