Sheath Cleaning 🐴⁉️‼🐴

What is it ❓❓

Sheath Cleaning is where a male horse has his ge****ls thoroughly cleaned and inspected for any abnormalities.

How important is it to have him checked ❓❓

VERY ‼🐴🐴

Over time a substance called Sm**ma forms and can result in large hard build ups which we call 'Beans'. Its a mixture of Sebum, sweat, oils, urine, dead skin cells and the environment he lives/work in. For example; dusty arena surface, sand, dust from straw etc.

Beans can be dangerous, and block the horses urethra. Just above the urethra is a pocket of space called the Urethral Fossa and this is where the build up of dirt and grime happens, which results in hardened ‘beans’.

❓❓ would you not want to get your male horse check over, and have him throughly cleaned ❓❓

Beans can be very painful for the horse, and some will display behaviour to suggest they are in pain.

Signs to look for:

🌟 Excessive tail swishing
🐴 Kicking up with hind legs. (Like if there was a fly but with no flies around)
🌟 Never/rarely see him with it naturally dropped out.
🐴 Difficulty urinating or urine exits the p***s in several directions like a spray.
🌟 Unexplained bucking.
🐴 That funny noise geldings make when trotting.

I suggest to have your horse cleaned by a professional like myself at least once every 12 months. Preferably every 6 months, unless you suspect he may be feeling discomfort.

Who remembers Bella? AKA Miss Arabelle?! 👑👑

This beautiful girl was seen by myself last year for her first ever Hygiene Clean.

Today I went to see Bella in her new home, and oh what a difference! I think Bella remembered me 🥰😆🐴

She stood like an angel, and once again, thoroughly enjoyed her clean.

No beans this time. Just lots of crust in between her teats again.

Happy pony left feeling comfortable and refreshed 🐴❤️

🧼🐴 Sheath Cleaning done Professionally 🐴🧼

I’ve had a lot of messages recently regarding Sheath Cleaning 🧼 and how thoroughly it can be done without the horse dropping his p***s for it to be cleaned. Also how a Bean is removed without seeing it.

I’d say 98% of horses I clean DO NOT drop and all the cleaning is done inside the sheath. YES.. this mean I have to put him whole arm inside the horses sheath, with bigger horses going as far as my elbow!!

I find it very helpful when they do drop to use this chance to show horse owners exactly where the Beans are removed from but unfortunately it’s actually quite rare that happens!! Although most do drop out after a full clean with a few hours. The bean is removed by feel when the p***s is retracted into the Sheath. This is usually quick and painless, although some horses may find it uncomfortable 🐴

Little update on my Leo for those of you following our journey 💙💙🐎🐎

So as you know, Leo had KS surgery in April 24, I rehabbed him, and was back on board doing walk, Trott and canter under saddle. He were doing so so well!!!

In October he went and re-injured his bowed tendon galloping around like a loony in his feild! 🙄😬

3 months in, 7 weeks of box rest, followed by another 5 weeks turned away, and he’s looking sound 😍 another 3 months in the field with his new herd before we get him re-scanned in March/April.

He’s holding on and hanging in there ❤️❤️

He’s looking very well and I’m chuffed with him 🐴
