Salt and grit used for de-icing roads can pose risks to a dog’s paws. It can irritate their paw pads, causing redness, cracking or peeling.

In an attempt to remove the salt, dogs may lick their paws, but this can lead to them ingesting chemicals that can upset their stomachs or cause more severe issues.

Grit found on the roads sometimes causes micro-cuts and abrasions on paw pads, increasing the chance of infection.

❄️Prevention and Care:
Use dog boots to shield paws from salt and grit.
Apply a paw wax or balm before walks to create a protective barrier.
Rinse and wipe your dog’s paws with warm water and a soft cloth after walks.
Check paws regularly for cuts or signs of irritation.
Trim fur between paw pads to prevent ice and grit accumulation.

🩹First Aid for Irritated Paws:
Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Apply a soothing paw balm or petroleum jelly.
If irritation persists or there are signs of infection (redness, swelling, limping), please call us on 01652 653224 to book an appointment.

New Family Tradition
Every year my girls get a trash bag(s) and fill it with toys and stuff animals that they no longer play with, they then put under the Tree for Santa to take back to North Pole, and he can fix them up and give them to children next year. I love doing this with them, and they absolutely love it! (I will take bags to Salvation Army or a Toy drop for Children)

I love this idea and more should do it

🕷️ Ticks Come in All Shapes and Sizes! 🕷️

Ticks aren’t all the same— they vary in size from tiny nymphs as small as a poppy seed to larger adults you might spot more easily. Even the smallest tick can pose a risk, so it's essential to stay vigilant! After spending time outdoors, make it a habit to check yourself, your kids, and your pets.

Ahead of Bonfire Night, we have teamed up with Magic Classical for the pawfect canine calming playlist 🎶

Calming Pet Sounds, presented by Emma B, plays relaxing classical music to help you create a calm and soothing atmosphere for your dog to relax in. Every dog responds differently to fireworks but staying calm and using music to mask the sounds outside can help improve behaviour during fireworks season 🎆

The playlist is available on the Rayo app or you can tell your smart speaker to 'Ask Rayo to play Calming Pet Sounds'.

And don’t forget our tips 👇
• Plan for a cosy night-in – close the curtains, put on the radio, create a safe space for your dog and prepare with toys and treats.
• Walk your dog before it gets dark and never force your dog outside during fireworks.
• If your dog wants to hide, let them. But if your dog seeks reassurance, calmly give them attention and comfort. Research shows that ignoring them won’t help.
• Give your dog any prescribed medication before fireworks start.
• Check your house and garden are escape-proof. Your dog could try to run away if they’re scared so check your doors, windows and fences are secure.
