The Barker Shop

The Barker Shop Professional and City & Guilds qualified dog grooming service Late collection of your dog may result in a sitting charge of £5 per 20 minutes.

POLICIES & INFORMATION

Missed/late appointments: If you are unable to attend your appointment, please inform us at least 24 hours before your appointment time. Time is allocated for your dog’s groom therefore missed appointments are liable for a £15 cancellation fee before another appointment can be made. We run a strict grooming schedule, so please inform us if you are running late, as this will

affect other clients appointment times. Drop off/collection: We only have room for a small number of crates in the salon, therefore we can only accommodate dogs being dropped off no earlier than 15 minutes before their appointment time, and collected no later than 15 minutes after the groom unless by prior arrangement. We will text/call you 10 to 15 minutes before your dog’s groom is finished. Please wait until you have received notification. When owners arrive back early, it unsettles the dog which could result in the groom having to end prematurely. Bi***es in season: If your dog comes into season before her grooming appointment, please inform us of this. Having a bitch in season, in the salon can unsettle other dogs making grooming difficult. Therefore, it may be necessary to reschedule the time or date of your appointment,
Allergies: Please inform us of any known allergies your dog may have. If your dog has been prescribed a medicated shampoo by your vet, please bring this with you and any other instructions provided by the vet. We use natural products where possible, however we cannot be held responsible if your dog has an allergic reaction to any of our products if we are not informed before grooming. Aggressive dogs: As a pet owner, you are obliged to inform us if your dog is aggressive. An extra charge may be incurred if your dog becomes aggressive because they may take longer to groom or require extra staff to help. We reserve the right to refuse service to aggressive dogs who pose a risk to themselves, other dogs or staff. Toileting: Please ensure your dog has had the opportunity to toilet before coming for his/her appointment. A walk before their grooming appointment will also give your dog chance to let off a bit of steam, making for a calmer grooming experience for all concerned. Whilst we appreciate that ‘accidents’ do happen, having to break off grooming to clear ‘accidents’ up and take to an outside bin delays the grooms. Getting the groom right: Please be as specific as possible when telling us how you like your dog to be groomed. On collection of your dog, if you are not happy with any part of the groom, please speak to us about it so that we have the opportunity to correct it. We want you to be happy with your dogs groom. Grooming time: We try to stick to schedule, however it isn’t just about the groom, we get interruptions ….. answering the phone, giving out advice, calming nervous dogs, cleaning up poo …. Thanks for understanding. Tidy up: We offer a tidy up service anytime between grooms. Bath, dry, brush out, trim around eyes, sanitary tidy and under paws. Please ask for prices. Puppy Intro Package: Introducing your puppy to the sights, sounds and smells of grooming. Gently introducing the bath, grooming table, sounds of the clippers and driers. We interact with your puppy making grooming a happy and pleasant experience leading to a lifetime of happy grooming for you and your dog. Please ask for details. Advance Appointments: Regular appointments will keep your dog in top condition. Advance appointments mean your dog is groomed at a time that suits you. Make life easier and set up advance appointments today. Social Media: We love to share your dogs on Facebook. We only ever use the dogs name, never your name or address. If you do not give permission for this, please tell us otherwise we will assume permission is granted. GROOMING CONTRACT

1. The dog is fit and healthy. Grooming of sick or elderly dogs is entirely at owner’s risk. Grooming may expose underlying skin or health problems that we cannot be held liable for.
2. If you wish to have your unvaccinated dog groomed, we cannot be liable for any illness contracted by your dog as a result of them not being vaccinated.
3. It must be clearly understood that whilst every care and attention is given to your dog(s) they are accepted at the owner’s risk. Our first concern is for the welfare of your dog so in the event of injury or illness our Vet (The Old Registry Vets) may be called in and unless it can be clearly shown that we are liable, all costs in connection with and the carrying out of this instruction shall be at owner’s expense. If your dog needs to see a vet due to injury caused by The Barker Shop, we will ask that you take your dog to The Old Registry Vets on Oswald Road where we have an account. If you decide to take the dog to a vet of your choice, we cannot guarantee that the full cost of treatment will be covered.
4. Payment will be made on collection of your dog. Estimates are based on an average dog of the breed or type, but owners must remember that some dogs will require extensive extra work and this will be charged for.
5. Uncollected dogs will be charged a sitting fee.
6. We groom humanely at The Barker Shop and we abide by the Animal Welfare Act 2006. When a dog is presented to us in a severely matted state, it is our policy to shave the whole coat using electric clippers and a close blade. By having your dog groomed with us, you are accepting the above terms, so please read them all carefully.

“What’s the hardest part about having a dog?” they asked, their tone casual, like it was just another question.

I glanced at the worn leash hanging by the door, my chest tightening. “Letting them go,” I said quietly.

They frowned a little, waiting for me to explain. “They come into your life like they were always meant to be there,” I said, trying to find the words. “They make everything better—simpler, brighter. And you think it’s always going to be that way. But it’s not. One day, they’re gone, and you’re left with all the space they used to fill.”

They nodded, but I wasn’t sure they understood. “It’s not the messes they made or the routines you have to let go of,” I continued. “It’s the absence. You walk into the house, and it feels... wrong. The quiet is heavier. The mornings don’t feel the same without them nudging you awake.”

“So why do it?” they asked, their voice softer this time.

I sighed, glancing down at my hands. “Because the love they give you is worth every bit of the heartache. They teach you how to love without holding back, even when you know it’s going to hurt in the end. And you keep choosing that love because you know it’s one of the best things you’ll ever feel.”

Our Story

The Barker Shop first opened its doors in July 2014, and since then, we have grown into an amazing busy salon.

We pride ourselves on the highest standard of pet care (large or small), excellent grooming standards and customer service, and our fully qualified, City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma groomers go that extra mile to ensure pet and customer are totally satisfied. Here at The Barker Shop we love dogs and always strive to keep your pup happy and looking great.

Canine First Aid Trained

Owner Liz has completed Advanced Canine First Aid, because pets have accidents the same as humans and knowing what to do should the worst happen is extremely important. Canine first aid is not aimed to replace veterinary care but it will help to recognise an emergency, calm your pet and reduce the risks of delayed treatment.
