As members of PETA it was pleasing to find an article on appropriate dog training, however it still highlights the difficulties in policing aversive training. This is the same in the UK as it is in many other countires across the globe. Education. Education. Education.

“What questions should I ask a dog trainer?” “What are the best dog training methods?” PETA’s new guide has all the answers.

Thank you for all you lovely messages and gifts and cards. Im sure most of you have noticed I love flowers as I aways either have wonderful floral displays from our dear friend Sally Bladon who is a member of the Seaford Afternoon Flower club or my orchids are all around the salon. But at the moment we look more like a florist due to the lovely bouquets we have received from our lovely clients. They have made me smile a lot over the past two weeks, which was a difficult thing as its been very emotional time. We had planned to contact all our clients but emotion took over and I had to give myself some time. The most important thing for us moving forward is that all our lovely dogs and cats are looked after and find the right person moving forward. For those of you who have been in recently we have given you recommendations so hopefully you are all sorted. Here is a list of recommended groomer who i have trained and work to the same standards of welfare as us.

Jo Heasman runs Lead Me To Luxury and is in Chelwood Gate her telephone number is : 07881 634911. Jo has taken on all our behavioural clients and is a perfect choice for anyone who needs additional support as she will be working with Ben in our behavioural clinic. She is also happy for clients to stay where needed with their dogs.
Charlotte Elliott runs Styled to Pawfection in Alfriston, her telephone number is 01323 870002 Charlotte trained and worked with me for 8 years before starting up her own business, she works with Leah Beal who also trained to level 2 with us and offers caring compassionate grooming in a quite location so caters for nervous and more delicate dogs.
Emma Ammoun runs Muddy Buddies in Bexhill Telephone number : 07789 915656. Emma runs her salon from her home so is a quite and calm environment.
Julie Mitchell in Pevensey Bay just waiting for contact details
Jodie Brooks will be grooming in Peacehaven Telephone number 07879842883 has been working with me for the past 8 months and has started her dog grooming and behavioural training. She has got to know a lot of your dogs and has helped me with their grooming needs. Jodie is completing her Emmipet training so will be able to offer dental treatment for current and new clients. She is happy to offer baths, deshed and tidies and nail trims. She is also happy to do interim grooms for those of you that have to wait to get an appointment elsewhere.
Most of you have my personal number so please feel free to text me if you need any help moving forward or you can send me a message via facebook. Thank you all for your custom and the kindness you have all shown me ###

Among the thanks are tears of sadness as The Dog Hut has made the decision to close for good on 14th May 2022. Sara can longer continue grooming with the challenges that chronic pain brings and the physical demands of dog grooming. The last year has been a very difficult and challenging time both before and after Sara's spinal surgery in July 2021. Sara and Dean thank their amazing clients for the ongoing support and custom over the last three years and in some cases over the last 13 years. The Dog Hut genuinely cares about the dogs they have been looking after (and their owners) and has been recommending other suitable groomers that adopt similar high standards of welfare. All of who have been trained by Sara over the last 16 years. Existing clients can Text 07955685865 for suitable recommendations for their dog's needs.

"This has been a heartbreaking decision, and we thank everybody for their understanding. We have been trying to contact all our clients personally, if you haven't heard from us just yet then we apologize but we hope to contact everybody by the week ending 21st May"

We are taking a break!
As part of our animal support in Sicily, we are taking food, bedding, and blankets to support charity work. We are looking to restart the renovation on a property that aims to be our cat and dog holding kennels in late 2022. The Dog Hut's Grooming Salon and Behaviour clinic will be closed between Thursday 29th and reopens on Thursday 11th November '21. While we are away our lovely staff team will be looking after calls, carrying out a deep clean and planning the busy diary for our return. Thank you so much to everybody that has made donations large and small to make this trip possible. Dean and Sara Sicily Animal Support www.sas247.net

Talking of grass seeds,,,, cats are just as vulnerable so also need regular grooming and checking over. These two adorable Maine C***s came into The Dog Hut for their Summer de-shed, de-matt and tidy. As within our dog grooming, we do not apply heavy restraint and use behavioural handling to relax cats as best as possible. At no time were either of these two beauties restricted in their choice to move around the grooming table - remember the Animal Welfare Act - the need to exhibit normal behaviour patterns! But just look at the hidden grass seeds we found and some odd bit of blue plastic!

What a lovely view this morning on my way to my first behavioural client of the day. A super little crossbreed and the owners are lovely too! But with all this wonderful sunshine and grass we then have the demon grass seeds. Each day at grooming we remove grass seeds that have become lodged in the dogs' coats, in between toes and in the skin - sometimes there are very deep and if missed they can enter the skin and travel the body causing all sorts of problems, pain and discomfort. So when you return from your walk, just run your hand throughout your dog's coat and check between toes to make sure there are no grass seeds hanging about! More information on grass seeds can be found at The Blue Cross advice page https://www.bluecross.org.uk/pet-advice/grass-seeds-and-dogsvice.
