The time a lot of dog owners dread is here, these are a few helpful tips that I have personally used on my own dog in the past, unfortunately not every dog responds the same as others so what may work for some, may not work for others.
1. Take your dog on a walk during the daytime to avoid fireworks, hopefully this will make them more sleepy for the night time π€
2. Have a safe space for your dog, whether that may be near you or in their cage/bed, make sure to keep an eye on them
3. Make sure your house is secure
4. Try and take them for a wee as late as possible but before the fireworks start as you don't want them outside while they are going off
5. Use a "happy hoody" which can be made by using a sock with a hole cut out, make sure it is snug but not too tight
6. Try an "anti anxiety wrap" that can be made using scarfs etc.
7. Draw the curtains, turn the tv up
8. Distract your dog with play and their favorite things
9. Get recommendations off your vet, they might supply you with something to help keep your pooch calm during this scary time
10. Try and stay calm, the more stressed you are, the more stressed your dog will become
I hope some of these tips can help you and your dog stay a bit calmer and make it a little easier for you both during this stressful time, I personally know what you are all going through, as my dog would always be super stressed during this time of year, it was awful to watch him, feeling helpless not knowing what to do to help, somethings work, somethings stop working, just be there for your dog and try and ride it through the best you can π₯°π€
