โ๏ธ๐กHeat Stroke Alert!๐กโ๏ธ
Whilst the temperatures are high and we are enjoying finally having some Summer sunshine. Please don't underestimate the effect that the heat can have on our pets.
๐พ Walk dogs when the weather is coolest, first thing in the morning or in the evening is usually the cooler parts of the day. Keep walks short and less strenuous.
๐พ Brachycephalic (short nosed) breeds are most at risk - no matter how fit and healthy they are, as are the overweight, elderly and those with heart/lung issues.
๐พ Make sure they have access to plenty of water and a cool place to lay out of the sun.
๐พ Rabbits and Guinea pigs are vulnerable too so move hutches and runs into the shade and make sure they have access to plenty of water. Check water bottles regularly.
๐พ NEVER leave your pet in a hot car or conservatory.
๐พ Check the temperature of the footpath before taking your dog out for a walk (place your hand on the pavement and leave for 5 seconds, if you can't leave your hand there, it's too hot)
๐พ If you think your pet has heat stroke, move them to a cool place, use a fan, and cool (not cold) towels to lower body temperature. CALL A VET IMMEDIATELY!
