Struggling with Scour in your calves? 🐮
Remember milk is vital to provide energy for maintenance and growth of calves and lambs.
Rehydion is a ready-to-use oral rehydration gel that can be fed with milk enabling animals to retain their milk feeds with the essential nutrients these contain. 🥛
The next instalment of our Dalehead Mini Talks is here‼️ The topic is how to collect faecal samples for a worm egg count to achieve the best results. We have had a a lot of high worm burden samples recently in our lab so we would recommend bringing muck down to be tested if not already done so. 🪱
It was great to be back to face to face Flockclub meetings last week.
Our on-farm meeting was well attended, with lots of discussion in the 4 mini seminars:
• Nutrition of the ewe
• Neonatal lamb infections and the importance of the 5 Q’s of colostrum
• Infectious lameness control and the Footvax trial we were involved with
• Causes and control of ewe mastitis
We are very grateful to the Dugdale family at Borrins Farm for hosting us and to HIPRA Animal Health and Carrs Billington Nutrition for sponsoring our refreshments.
If you are interested in joining our Flockclub, just get in touch on 01729 823538

What are we going to do without Spectam!? 🤯
Rachel talks us through best practice for the lambing shed and some possible alternatives. 🐑
Enzootic Abortion in Ewes (EAE) is a ticking time bomb! One infected ewe, shedding infection at lambing, has the potential to infect multiple ewes who may wellabort at their next lambing. The consequences can be financially devastating for farmers - it is estimated thatabortions in an unvaccinated flock could lead to losses of up to £5,000 per 100 ewes over a 4-year period, while vaccinating a flock of 100 ewes only costsaround £300-£350 in the first year and an estimated total cost of £75 per year for newreplacements.

Do ‘ewe’ buy in replacement ewes? In a recent survey carried out by Ceva Animal Health and theNSA, nearly half of those questioned reported that they buy in replacements. However over 60 per cent did not keep them separate from their flock until after they had lambed, putting the whole unvaccinated flock at risk of infection.Biosecurity and vaccination go hand-in-hand to prevent EAE – reducing the risk of the disease entering the farm alongside vaccinating the whole flock in year one and future replacement ewe thereafter will dramatically reduce the impact of EAE.
