It's grass seed season again...
Although tiny, they have the potential to cause real pain to your dog. The seeds have pointy ends and are very sharp so they easily become trapped in a dogβs fur and can burrow down the coat to pierce the skin.
Unfortunately, in some cases, the grass seed can go under the skin and as they don't breakdown once inside the body they can start travelling around the body and cause big problems. The seeds can also get stuck in eyes, ears and up their nose.
Make sure you check your dogs throughly after each walk and remove any grass seeds trapped in their fur before they embed into the skin. If you think a grass seed has entered your dogs body contact your vet straight away.
If your dog has a grass seed they may shake their head or scratch their ears, sneeze vigorously, have a swelling, be licking or chewing their paws.
At every groom we check your dog thoroughly for grass seeds, and by keeping your dogs well groomed this can help prevent grass seeds from embedding, especially by keeping feet well trimmed! βοΈπΎπΆ
