Hey,
Let’s take some time out from Hoofing Around so we can tell you how it begun. From Malta to Minster our boy Chene came, and the struggles started. From losing a hoof pick in the field to needing rugs upon rugs for summer & winter, we found ourselves spending more time traveling around to purchase these things rather than spending time with him. It wasn’t long until one became two and our girl

Aunt Edna came to join our family and with her own needs the struggles become double! We quickly realised that our nearest equestrian supplier was a 30-mile round trip away and sometimes needing that ‘purple spray’ just can’t wait! So, this is where the idea for a local click and collect business came from. Hoofing Around Horse Supplies was then created by myself Stacey and my mum Denise. We wanted to give the local equestrian community access to affordable, quality equine products on their doorstep. Since launching our business in March 2023, not only have we been serving our local community we have also been serving all four nations of our isles by stocking a large range of well-known brands. From cosy winter rugs to soothing summer fly spray, we pride ourselves on “keeping horses happy”.

Did you know a horse’s tail is more than just a beautiful feature!! 😍

It's a key communication tool and an essential part of their daily life!

Horses use their tails to express emotions and communicate with other horses and humans. For example, a tail held high often indicates excitement or alertness while a swishing tail can signal irritation or annoyance especially when they’re dealing with flies or feeling impatient. 🫶

Speaking of flies, a horse's tail also acts as a natural fly swatter.
Horses can flick their tails to keep pesky insects at bay which is crucial since they often spend a lot of time in open fields where flies can be relentless. 🪰🪰

Interestingly, their tail movements can also provide insight into their health or mood!

A limp or tightly clamped tail might indicate discomfort or stress while a relaxed tail generally means the horse is calm and content. So, their tails are not just for looks they are a vital part of how horses communicate, stay comfortable, and maintain their well being. 🐴

😍🫶 Snapped this photo of our boy Chene today and couldn't help but reflect on how far he's come.

He started out in Malta, travelling to a completely new country only knowing life as a backyard horse after his racing career. Poor boy must of been terrified! 😥

He was adopted by someone else when he first arrived in the UK but let’s just say... Chene wasn’t exactly on his best behaviour. He got sent back after three days.
And then came us, all giddy to jump back into the horse world... and boom we ended up with Chene! 😅

He arrived with attitude for months and a personality to match. Super smart which let's be honest wasn’t always in our favour!

After four long years and plenty of lessons he's turned into the calmest, most enjoyable horse to be around.

We wouldn't change him for the world....even though at times, we definitely could of! 😂

🩷 When you look back at those early days with your fur babies, did they settle in like angels from day one or have they done a complete 180 over time? 💙

🫶😁 We just had to share this with you all today because we are always asked how we keep Moon’s tail so soft and tangle free!

Moon’s tail is long, thick, and, trust us, it gets tangled up all the time. 🫣

Our secret weapon? The Horsewise Coat Sheen and Conditioner! It’s a game changer for detangling not only her tail but her mane too, plus it smells amazing! 😊

We also swear by the Mane & Tail brush.... it works perfectly with the spray and gently glides through the hair without any pulling or tearing. Total lifesaver! 👌

🥰Chene and Moon had a great ride together today! 🥰 Chene was super relaxed and as for Moon, it's always a bit of a challenge to get her moving, so she was equally laid back! We have been working on voice commands with Moon and it's going really well so far, though there's still plenty of progress to be made but with practice, we will get there! 😁 Thanks again to Adams.Equine for helping us with them both...Chenes muscle 💪 is really getting there now! 😁 🩷 What are your plans for the weekend...any riding involved???? 💙

We are convinced Moon does this on purpose!🙈 She stands perfectly still for ages while being groomed, actually falling asleep because she enjoys it so much. We're thinking "Oh, she must love being clean! It must make her feel good!" But then as soon as you start to walk away and glance back there she is, watching you. And just as you keep walking away....she hits the floor!! Rolling in the dirt. Of course she does! Oh, Moon, we are not looking forward to the winter with you! 😅 🫣 Moon surely isn't the only one who does this! Who else has a horse that rolls right after being groomed? 🤭
