Gus and his owner had a 121 session with Laura to clear up a few miscommunications between them 🙃 Gus has a really good engagement with his owner and his owner has been working hard on his training. Keep up the good work!

Gill's husband Steve asked for a Bentley car and Gill wanted a dog - so meet Bentley the 14 week old Akita x Caucasian shepherd. 🙂
He was very excitable when visitor arrive and has habit of jumping up. He also attention seeks continually whilst his owners are chilling. Its important to teach Bentley the correct behaviours before he is fully grown. Hes going to be a big lad

Crate training for puppies is a great way to learn them to relax and chill out and also gives them a place of security and safety :-). Little Riley the border terrier loves his crate and is doing a fantastic job of sleeping there over night, we have now helped his humans extend this into the daytime for lots of puppy sleep.

💡🐾 HELP PREVENT OVER-AROUSAL AND FRUSTRATION 🐾💡

Over arousal and frustration are the two most common contributors to many of the unwanted behaviours displayed by our companion dogs.

Providing your dog with breed specific outlets will help reduce arousal and frustration through physical exercise and by fulfilling their genetic drives.

So what is an outlet? Well it is different to enrichment. Some people are led to believe they are one and the same but this isn’t the case.

Enrichment is when you provide your dog with something nice, fun or relaxing to do, which they undoubtedly enjoy but, it does very little to fulfil their genetic needs. Unless of course your dog was bred to lick peanut butter off a licky mat that is 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣.

Outlets are activities that you provide your dog where they not only express natural dog behaviours, but more importantly genetic and breed specific behaviours. This can strengthen your relationship with your dog as you provide the outlets that they need. Your dog will no longer be motivated to find alternative outlets away from you. This can aid your recall reliability and loose lead walking.

Here is a video of Kirby and I engaging in an outlet for his hunting dog breeding using a ball. He absolutely loves searching and retrieving. He also enjoys a good old game of tug. However, this is more enrichment and exercise rather than a genetic focussed outlet for Kirby.

The gorgeous Snoopy taking the puppy visit in his stride :-). No major issues to address here, Snoopy (as you can see) is quite a chilled little puppy and his owners just wanted to make sure they were giving Snoopy the right information to become a great adult dog. He did amazing

❗️Dogs will be used for student training and assessment purposes, therefore dogs must be familiar with the dog grooming salon environment.

❗️There will be no charge for this service.

❗️Due to students’ assessments, dogs must have a substantial amount of coat which is not matted.

Two gorgeous little puppy visits. Meet Guinness the Cocker Spaniel and Missy the lovely Cockerpoo.

Tilly is a tiny 12 week old Cocker spaniel. Her human has had her for only 3 weeks and wanted guidance on everything puppy. We had a fab list for us to go through which is always helpful so we dont miss anything. The list included, biting/chewing, pen/crate training, getting on her knee and her jumping on her when she's eating (very food orientated).
Her human has had 3 dogs previously in her family but never had one on her own and every puppy is different.

How cute is Rocky the Whippet. His humans wanted guidance on everything puppy, and in particular learning Rocky to be home alone. He was also a little nervous so addressing how they should allow people and dogs to interact with him is so important to not reinforce his nerves and make him worse.

Meet the lovely Norman, the miniature Dachshund. His humans wanted guidance on everything puppy. This included toilet training, nipping and lot of attention seeking. Teaching your puppy at an early age to be ignored is foundation for lots of behaviours that make come along later in life.

How gorgeous is Dudley the puppy. He already sleeps great in his crate at night but he doesn’t sleep much in the daytime. Puppies need lots of sleep and the lack of sleep can contribute to lots of unwanted behaviours. Dudley's humans already have quite a chilled little fella and just needed help learning him to settle ready for being left alone at a later date.

This is the gorgeous Brear, her humans had no major issues, but needed more of a guided visit to see if the training at home they were already doing with Brear, was in the right direction. Guidance from the beginning is important to prevent problems later down the line

Our puppy visits are a great way to get some foundation training in place from the start. This is the gorgeous Stanley, his humans needed help with learning Stanley to spend time alone. Stanleys humans are familiarly with the breed but havent had a puppy for a very long time.

If you have a dog who is nervous or fearful of people and you are exposing them to this type of environment to help desensitise them or maybe you are working through a counter conditioning program, remember to be vigilant and be prepared to advocate for your dog. My go to phrase these days is “He’s nervous of everyone so please don’t approach him”. While saying this, try taking a step in front of your dog or even stand up if you are sat down. However, be ready to intervene if they ignore you.
