WARNING! Please note, there are still sheep wandering about in Wharncliffe Woods. Some have been spotted around the fire hydrant pond last week. The farmer is aware but struggling to round them up, due to them being scattered. Apparently, they escaped from Wharncliffe chase. If you see any, please contact the Forestry Commission who manage the land on 0300 067 4340. Unfortunately, I don't have the farmer's number. (Image taken from another post)

Very useful!

Vomiting is a common problem in dogs, but it's really important to recognise when something could be wrong. Fortunately, most cases are caused by something minor that resolves itself in less than 24 hours, but some are much more serious and require veterinary treatment ⚠️

When you should contact your vet:
- Retching (trying to vomit but not bringing anything up)
- Low energy (lethargy)
- A bloated tummy
- A painful abdomen
- Vomiting for more than 24 hours
- Vomiting constantly with no breaks
- Vomiting and is very young or very old
- Vomiting and is otherwise unwell/has other illness
- Blood in their vomit
- Signs of dehydration (sticky gums or sunken eyes)
- Disorientation or collapse

Good advice.

With children spending more time at home with their four-legged friends during half term, it's important to be able to recognise the signs of stress in dogs 🚦

Kendal Shepherd's Canine Ladder of Communication is a useful guide, showing the different signals dogs show through their body language to communicate. As a dog gets more upset, their body language may change according to the steps on the ladder ⚠️

The quicker you notice the early signs of stress, the sooner you'll be able to remove your dog from the situation that is causing them stress and avoid them reaching the top of the ladder.

It’s important to note that context is KEY! Think about the situation that your dog is in to try and understand the signs. For example, if they're at home and relaxed as normal, an exposed belly is very different to a stiffened exposed belly in an unfamiliar environment. All dogs are different - not every dog will show every action on the ladder and they might not follow the same order.

It's a shame that someone decided to rip this down and throw it at my door whilst I was out. It's always late Sunday afternoons when mischief happens round here! 🙁

A bag a day keeps the dog poo away! Putting this on the pavement in front of our houses has made a massive difference. No more poo on the ground! I know you shouldn't have to do this, but it's worth it, and it's a contribution to the community.

SCAM ALERT. Just been made aware by a verified charity, that there are RSPCA Vans and Council Warden vans driving round. NB Not sure which areas. They knock on your door, and say your dog has been reported and a complaint made. They then say they need to take your dog away. It's a scam to steal your dog. Chihauaus seem to be targeted in particular. Don't let them take your dog!

Morning. I've decided not to walk any dogs today, unless there is significant improvement with the weather. Don't want to risk getting pulled down on black ice! So to all my customers, I'll be in touch individually to discuss the options. Sorry for the the disruption!

Christmas is a-comin'. I'm taking a break over the holiday, and will finish at lunchtime on Tuesday 24th December 2024, (Christmas Eve), til Thursday 2nd January 2025. Where has the time gone!
