I set up Pets at Rest in 2018 to support families when the time comes to say goodbye to their companion. I keep pets' final moments relaxed and loving, ensuring the final farewell provides comfort for owners.

In wet weather, walking Lumin always ends in a muddy dog that takes ages to clean. So this week, we tried a water resistant fleece. It was going so well for the first five minutes, but typical Lumin, she decided to push it to its limits. Turns out, itā€™s not a wet-suit. šŸ¾šŸ˜«
In addition to having to wash her, we also had to wash her onesie. Give me strength.

The most difficult part of loving a pet is developing an understanding that one day we will say our final farewells. The time they spend with us is filled with profound love, loyalty and joy. This happiness is part of what makes it so hard when it comes to that ā€˜impossible decisionā€™ to say goodbye. While nothing prepares you for that day, saying farewell at home is a beautiful way to honor their companionship. Knowing you've surrounded them with familiar comforts in their final moments does more than help your pet; a peaceful and compassionate experience helps owners with their own healing and grieving process. From the moment families reach out to us, through to the day they are reunited with their pets ashes, we do our very best to make that difficult time just a little more bearable. To anyone who has used our service, we wanted to give our heartfelt gratitude for the trust you placed in us. And, for families who are yet to go on this journey, we are here when you need us. Sending best wishes to all.

Itā€™s hard to believe weā€™ve had this bundle of joy for a year now. We named her Lumin because her puppy fur was white. It didnā€™t last too long, but although her fur has turned a deeper gold, she continues to shine light and happiness into our hearts (as well as a little mischief). Thanks Lumin for being such a good girl and putting a smile on our faces each day.

Yesterday was a significant achievement for our sister-in-law. In her role working for the RSPCA, she visited No 10 Downing Street to hand in a petition of over one million signatures, calling for a change to fireworks legislation.
