Saying goodbye to a pet is a heartbreaking. At times, the grief can feel overwhelming and all-encompasing but you’re not alone and there is help out there. For anyone who is struggling, we highly recommend The Blue Cross Pet Bereavement Charity. Over the years, we’ve directed many families here and we often support them in their invaluable role. Please share with anyone you feel may benefit from this excellent charity.

We’ve often wondered how families decide what to do with their pets ashes. One family recently shared their beautiful final goodbyes at the beach, which got us to wondering…how have your pet’s ashes helped to comfort you? Did you have a scattering ceremony, do you keep them somewhere safe at home, are they part of jewellery or even a tattoo? We’d love to hear about your beloved pets once they came home to you.

This Friday 21st June is ‘Take your Dog to Work’ day in the UK. Our last dog, Puddle, had weekly trips to a for over 10 years, supporting children across the curriculum, including those with complex needs. Her presence in the school cheered everyone up and brought many positive benefits - the impact she had touched many lives. Here she is on playground duty!

It feels strange being back in green scrubs! I used to work at the Sheffield PDSA charity hospital between 2009-2021 - first as a vet, then as the Senior Vet and finally an Area Veterinary Manager. It was some of the most rewarding and challenging veterinary work I’ve ever done, so when they reached out and asked if I would consider helping them out again, how could I say no? It’s tricky to find the time but volunteering a few hours for charity makes a difference to many pets and their families.
