Name a butterfly after your mum 🦋
If your mum, step mum or the person you love as a mum, goes that extra mile, still looks after you, has helped you in a way you appreciate or is simply the best mum, then make her day by naming a butterfly after her. Or if she’s sadly no longer around, name one in memory of her.
You will receive a digital downloadable certificate with a space to add your mum’s name, or we can complete it for you, and your mum’s name will be added to our Butterfly board, to be revealed on Mother's Day 🦋
All proceeds raised will go towards the park’s wildlife conservation projects and animal enrichment. https://butterflyhouse.digitickets.co.uk/category/62469

This amazing Angle shade moth was spotted on site here at the park by keeper Laura! 📷🦋
They have pinkish-brown markings and their folded wings give the impression of a dried up leaf giving them the perfect camouflage in leafy litter and here on tree bark! 🍂 They are commonly found in parks and gardens, as well as along woodland edges and hedgerows so look out for them on your next walk!

It's a sure sign of spring 🌼 - hundreds of frogspawn have finally arrived at our native conservation site at Grindleford! 🐸🌱💚
Our director and conservation manager Jo took this shot whilst on site earlier this week.
Frogspawn is laid in big clumps, usually in shallow water, with females laying thousands of eggs each year with only a small amount expected to survive to adulthood! 🐸
Have you spotted frog, toad or newt spawn in your garden ponds?🔎

During National Learn about Butterflies Day, keeper and educator, Paul revealed his top tips for creating a butterfly haven at home! 🦋🏡
Grow nettles in your garden, which butterflies such as the small tortoiseshell, peacock and red admiral depend on for breeding, homes and protection and buddleia as a nectar-rich magnet for butterflies and moths! 🌱💚 🦋
Paul's afternoon butterfly talk saw budding entomologists armed with magnifying glasses searching for delicate eggs and hungry caterpillars and our brave visitors encountering some amazing minibeasts including stick insects and cockroaches from Madagascar!🔎

It’s and we are proud to champion sustainability, from the ground up! 🪴🌿🍂

We are celebrating our fully sustainable compost heaps which are made from green waste, animal waste and leaf mould, all recycled here on site. We are a conservation site therefore sustainability is so important in the running of our zoo, helping us to reduce waste, enrich our soils, and support local biodiversity. By composting on-site our gardeners cut down on landfill waste and create a nutrient-rich material that helps our plants thrive!
As you look around the park you will see the results with abundant displays of healthy plants and colouful flowers 🌺 🌼🪻

Have you ever admired how glorious the park looks when you visit? 🌼🌺🌷
This and we've twice the celebration as we shout out about our incredible award-winning horticulture heroes, Rachel & Maddy! 🌿 They work tirelessly to keep our park grounds looking stunning, brightening everyone's day! ☀
But beyond the beauty there is biodiversity as their efforts support everything from butterfly breeding to attracting native pollinators! 🦋🐝
Sit back and enjoy the view whilst enjoying a cuppa al fresco at Lottie's Coffee Lounge!☕

Coins to Conservation - your wishing well donations are helping to grow habitats!🪙🦋🌱
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who threw a coin, made a wish and generously contributed to our bird house wishing well donations!
Your kindness has blossomed into a remarkable £1068 raised for local wildlife conservation. And what a difference it's already making!
Markham Vale Conservation Volunteers, a dedicated NE Derbyshire Butterfly Group, have been thrilled to receive and transform your donations with their first purchase - 1.5m elm trees to be planted at Norbriggs Flash, a small nature reserve near Mastin Moor.
Their hope is to create a perfect habitat for White Letter Hairstreak Butterflies and encourage them to adopt this location. Look out for updates as this project flourishes! 🦋👏

Today is 🐐
The first thing that always comes to mind when we think about World Wildlife Day is heading out to our local zoo and reminding ourselves of the vast variety of life our world offers.
If you have children, this can be one of the best ways to really introduce them to the wonders of the animal and plant kingdom 🦘
