Why you should choose your vets for dental procedures

🦷 It allows your pet to be under general anaesthetic for a full oral examination, which allows the vet to diagnose and provide the relative treatment.

🦷 Under general anaesthetic allows effective and careful cleaning of the teeth to not cause any damage to the surrounding tissues. Uncontrolled movements whilst awake could cause periodontal damage.

🦷 Whilst under the general anaesthetic and the care of your veterinary surgeon, allows us to provide adequate pain relief and reduce stress to your pet.

🦷 We can often perform our dental Complete Oral Health Assessment and treatment in due time to ensure your pet the most effective oral health care needed.

🦷The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons considers that anaesthesia free dental procedures, are NOT in the best interest of the health and welfare of patients.

🦷 Did you know that your veterinary surgeon is legally the only person that can extract teeth.

🦷 Our veterinary nurses can take the dental radiographs for the vet to interpret and check the teeth, as we cannot see what they look like below the gum line. Many oral diseases can only be diagnosed by x-ray examination.

🦷 The patient also gets pre operative bloods to check the patients parameters and a drip of fluids throughout to help during and after their procedure.

🦷 Our pets are living longer so require dental care to keep their teeth healthy throughout their life and dental disease can contribute to other issues within the body.

Our Complete Oral Health Assessment and treatment as standard comes with pre operative bloods, fluids, full oral health assessment, dental radiographs, extractions if required and medications for pain relief. We also provide our patients with two post operative appointments for their aftercare.

As we get closer to Halloween, we wanted to share some tips and tricks to help keep your pet happy and healthy during the spooky season 🎃 🍫🍬 Keep sweets and chocolate out of your pet's reach. Most sweet treats are toxic for pets and can make them extremely poorly. 🎃🕯️ Keep an eye on decorations. Pets may accidentally knock them over or chew on them, resulting in burns or choke hazards. 🧛‍♂️🧙‍♀️ Be mindful when it comes to costumes - not all pets enjoy dressing up and can find it stressful! Happy Halloween!

Here at Dore and Totley Vets, we pride ourselves on giving you and your pets a professional, yet personal, service in our large and welcoming practice. We are located on the Baslow Road, with plenty of parking available. Our recently refurbished waiting room is open, light and spacious. Our consulting rooms are modern with plenty of space to examine your pet.

We have a large range of equipment to help us treat all kinds of illnesses including an x-ray machine, ultrasound machine, endoscope, blood pressure monitor and dental suite. We have a fully equipped theatre in which we perform a range of surgeries, including laparscopic spays - the only practice in Sheffield to do so.

We are able to give you advice on all aspects of pet health and care; from diet and training to worming and weight checks! We are always very happy to chat on the phone and have appointments running throughout the week and over the weekends, so we will always be able to accommodate you at a time that is convenient!
