RSPCA Sheffield Shelter

RSPCA Sheffield Shelter Providing shelter, love and care to cats and dogs everyday. Please see email below for queries.

The RSPCA Sheffield Branch is a separately registered charity to the National RSPCA which is based in Horsham, Sussex. Although we receive some support from the National RSPCA we have to generate all our own running costs ourselves, through local fundraising in the Sheffield area. We do not receive any funding from the government or local authority. The Sheffield branch of the RSPCA is run by volu

nteer trustees and costs over ยฃ2000 per day to run. This money has to be raised in the Sheffield area only, by staff and volunteers through fundraising, donations and legacies. We aim to rehome over 1000 animals per year from our shelter and support many more, all of which have come to us via rescue from cruelty or neglect, or that their owners are no longer able to care for them. Many other animals are also offered an emergency short stay until they can go somewhere that better suits their needs. Our job is to offer love, kindness and care, and to rehabilitate and rehome these lovely animals and to raise the funds to do so. The RSPCA Sheffield Branch, based in Attercliffe is made up of:

-The Sheffield Animal Centre which rehomes unwanted, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs. We neuter, vaccinate and microchip every dog and cat which comes to the Centre.

- Our Charity shops, situated around Sheffield are a vital source of regular income for the centre. We have great shops in Broomhill, Chapeltown, Woodseats and a brilliant eBay shop which all sell second-hand and vintage goods. We never put an animal to sleep unless advised to do so by a vet, to prevent further suffering or for severe aggression to people.

** Found cat ** Fieldhead Road, S8 0ZX

We have had this youngster brought down to us today after they wandered into someone house this morning.

This little one has no microchip and wasn't wearing a collar.

Proof of ownership will be required as always but due to the fact there's no microchip, if you believe this to be your cat please get in touch with us to confirm the s*x and provide alternative proof.

This little one is already making themselves at home! And enjoying a drink and a good play!

** We have received negative comments on posts like this before, this cat is young and due to other factors like the heat out there today and the area found being very close to busy roads they couldn't be taken back to where they were found with a paper collar. We will post them on all of the relevent missing pet sites. They are safe and will be well cared for while here with our team - always be kind ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™**

Our team have been hard at it this morning again allowing our pooches to have their outdoor socialising and enrichment nice and early! ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿซถ And prepping lots of frozen goodies for everyone until we can get them out again later when it's cooled off! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

We wanted to remind you all to be so very careful out there while we have our little heatwave! ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿซถ

We say it so many times throughout the summer months but we still see so many posts and hear stories from vets of animals with heat stroke.

Heat stroke is DEADLY. Your dog will not die from missing a midday walk but they may if you walk them. ๐Ÿ’” And your cats! Where possible keep them indoors during the peak heat! With little shade, hot tarmac and not alot of water sources this kind of heat is dangerous for them too! Not alot of people think of cats struggling but with the temperatures predicted we know they will!

- Avoid peak heat times! Walkies early in the morning and late in the evening are best! ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ
- Plenty of cooling measures available to your dogs AND cats! Cooling mats, cooling bandanas - close the curtains in one room to create shade and a cooler room... paddling pools, no unsupervised garden time, frozen kongs or licki mats, plenty of fresh cool water... there's so many fun cooling ideas out there! ๐Ÿฅฐ
- Where possible, even when avoiding peak heat go for a walk where there's shaded areas and ideally rural - avoid street walking to reduce the risk of burning your dogs pads- concrete can and does hold onto heat very well! ๐Ÿ˜”
- Absolutely do not leave your dog or cat in a hot car.๐Ÿ’” You can loose them in minutes ๐Ÿ’”
- Pop suncream on those light ears and noses! Just like us, especially lighter animals- they can burn without being in direct sunlight. ๐ŸŒž
- Be the fun police if you have to! ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ Don't let your pooch play excessively while in the heat - find them something calming to do with their brain instead! (Stuffed kong, treat balls, puzzle feeders, destruction boxes etc) ๐Ÿ‘Œ and keep your cat indoors and entertained.
- Check your gardens and fencing before allowing your dog to have a short toilet break - the LAST thing you want is your dog getting loose and running in the heat!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Here are the common signs of heatstroke (as provided by our wonderful friends down at the PDSA):
โš ๏ธ Excessive panting and salivating
โš ๏ธ Drowsiness/Lethargy
โš ๏ธ Collapsing/Weakness
โš ๏ธ Vomitting/Diarrohea
โš ๏ธ Bright red tongue
โš ๏ธ Pale gums
โš ๏ธ Excessive thirst (Dehydration)

Pets at a higher risk of heat stroke are:
๐Ÿพ Puppies/Kittens
๐Ÿพ Elderly
๐Ÿพ Obese
๐Ÿพ Heart/Respiratory conditions
๐Ÿพ Short-nosed breeds (Bulldogs, Frenchies, Pugs, Persians etc)

If you are concerned that your pet has heat stroke, please don't delay in getting them to a vet as soon as possible ๐Ÿš‘

We hope you all stay safe and have some fun with your furries while doing so - OUT OF THE HEAT! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ‘Œ

And there goes another one! ๐Ÿฅน๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Another of our "Pop pups" has landed on his forever sofa! ๐Ÿซถ This little stunner is known to you all as Tango but with a new forever home came a lovely new name ... Mac ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Now, alot of the success to this story lands right with Tangos AMAZING foster family ๐Ÿซถ he was such a lucky boy to land a place with a spaniel loving and understanding foster home that started all of the vital training, socialising, decompressing and loving that this boy needed - his start in life was far from ideal and he really needed someone to step up and thats exactly what that amazing family did! He even started working on his scent work and swimming to really be able to channel those inner spaniel urges! ๐Ÿซถ Then when the time finally came he started the search for his forever family ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

It won't surprise anyone that it didnt take long at all and now the horrors this boy once faced are permanently and far behind him! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Here's a few photos and what his new family have had to say! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

"He is settling beautifully, he loves to curl up on the sofa, and loves to sleep in our bed over his!! he also has brought a mischievous puppy side out, loves to steal washing out the machine and run outside, and loves our 2 year olds slipper๐Ÿ˜‚ we love seeing the puppy come out of him the more heโ€™s settling !!
his recall training is absolutely brilliant and heโ€™s adjusted to his new name so well. he loves to socialise and has slotted into our family so well. we love him so much."

Isn't that just the best end to this story for this lucky little lad ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

We are sure you will all remember seeing Luna and Nina on our page! These girls were waiting quite a while for their forever family to come along ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ’”... but good things come to those who wait!!!!

We are so happy to say the girls have packed their bags and moved into their forver home! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

Here's the update we recieved recently!

"I thought you might like a little update on Luna & Nina ๐Ÿ™‚

They're settling in so well. Nina was right at home from day one, the tabby tornado lived up to her reputation and absolutely loves to play - toys everywhere! Luna needed a little more encouragement but is growing in confidence every day and now loves a cuddle and a play. Her new trick is carrying toy mice round in her mouth and playing fetch with little soft balls (she brings them back and drops at our feet!).

They're both sweethearts! We couldn't be happier that these beautiful girls have come to live with us, they make us smile constantly ๐Ÿฅฐ

Have attached some photos, you're more than welcome to share if you'd like to!

Thanks again!"

If that doesn't make you smile this evening we don't know what will! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™
