Hamish , Angus , Bonnie and Rosie are now in a quad . This quad was relatively easy , compared to some, the introduction was slow and gentle, we started them off in adjoining pens , once they started eating next to the grid and laying next to each other , introductions began by dating , in a none stress bonding situation , we soon progressed being without the grid , 24/ 7 method began , all 4 were happy , Rosie might be a good hay she may convince the others hay us ok !

Salam and Buttercup went home happily tonight . We had to do quite a bit of work on Buttercups , attitude towards Salam. We took this bond super slowly , at their pace. Friday I was wondering if these two were really meant for each other at that point they were in 9ft by 3ft but due to them not being so happy we changed to a 5ft by 3ft hutch which worked , they suddenly became happier, watching their body language change for the better. If you watch a bond carefully , you can pick up on these issues , they have gone home tonight really stable and content in each others company . Key to a successful bond is to be bunny lead , and ready to change the environment to help them.

⭐️Why you shouldn’t put a harness on your rabbit: understanding the risks and alternatives⭐️

📣A harness and lead are go-to tools for many to allow their dogs time outside safely. Harnesses can be safely used to provide other species time outside to explore.

📣However, harnesses can be very DANGEROUS for rabbits,for a variety of reasons;

⭐️The first issue is it restricts the normal behaviour of the rabbit. If you own a rabbit, then you know a rabbit can move very fast, very quickly, zooming around and binkying when they feel happy or running and hiding when they are spooked.

⭐️A harness with a lead attached does not allow a rabbit to do those movements, so it will not allow them to express these natural behaviours.

⭐️Rabbits are most active at dawn and dusk and those are the times when they will feel most like exercising. They run in short, rapid bursts so taking them for a walk on a harness is not a good way to exercise them and most often it will not be at a good time of day for them. It’s far more appropriate for them to have permanent access to a large enclosure with plenty of enrichment so they can exercise as they please and when the mood takes them!!!

⭐️A harness will punish escape behaviour. If a rabbit is spooked, whilst wearing a harness, not only will it restrict movement, but it can punish any escape behaviours by adding unpleasant pressure when your rabbit tries to escape, which will only worsen the fear.☹️

⭐️Another issue is an increased risk of contracting parasites or diseases. Taking your rabbit out to places can increase the risk of them coming into contact with parasites and diseases, which can be bad for their health and even deadly.

📣Especially if the areas you are taking your rabbit to have wild rabbit populations are present. It is especially risky if your rabbit has not had their vaccinations or boosters that protect against myxomatosis, RHDV1 and RHDV2.

⭐️The final risk of using a harness for your rabbit is that there is a risk of injury. A rabbit that is spooked can easily become tangled, which could lead to strangulation or broken limbs. If the rabbit darts forward and reaches the end of the leash, this could cause a broken back or neck, as a rabbit’s skeleton is extremely fragile.

❤️There are better ways to allow your rabbit to spend time outside that are safe, such as allowing them supervised time in a playpen in the garden or allowing them access to a predator-proof run when unsupervised.❤️

❤️While it can be beneficial for your rabbit to spend time outside, it is important this is done in a way that is safe for your rabbit. A harness is not a safe way to do this, if you want to give your rabbit time outside in a way that is safe consider using a minimum of a 60square foot rabbit run .

Making a big congrats to Misty and Mr Gobo from BARC , these two just got to bond really easily and have now gone home really happily , it was the coldest of bonds I have done in a while , constant supervision to prevent injuries is very important , when you bond you must keep a very close eye on what is happening, reading their body language is essential to a stable bond . More pictures to be added .

Happy New Year to all my lovely customers old and New .

As many of you know in September, we began our fostering journey ( again ) not animals this time but our Millie , she absolutely loves all the Waggytails animals and has been learning how to care for dogs , cats , rabbits , guinea pigs and all small furry creatures . One on the best ideas was for Millie to have a kitten , of her own , we were a little wary as we have 3 other cats in the house , but we needn’t of been concerned, Shilling our white cat has taken to Ace really well , they spend lots of times together , however Shilling now thinks he’s mum ! Little furries can bring lots of love and healing in our lives .
