Vets Now Sheffield

Vets Now Sheffield Vets Now Sheffield is a pet emergency clinic dedicated to out-of-hours care for small animals 🐾

28/08/2024

🚨 Important Notice 🚨

We've been facing some challenges with stray dogs being brought to us that were found outside of Sheffield, where our clinic is based. While we're happy to assist with microchip scanning, we kindly ask that stray dogs found in neighbouring areas like Rotherham, Doncaster, Chesterfield or Barnsley, for example, be taken to a local vet in the area where they were found. This ensures that the appropriate dog wardens can assist, as they cannot collect strays from our location.

If contacting our clinic concerning a stray, please let the team know what postcode location the pet has been found so we can ensure they are taken to the correct clinic for help.

Please share to help get stray dogs the proper support and return them home quickly! 🐾❤️

Drum roll, please... 🥁 We are thrilled to announce our Vets Now Pet of the Year award runners-up. Our second 2024 runner-up is Wilbur. 🐶

Wilbur has transformed his owner Lucy’s life after being paired with him two years ago. A rare form of vasculitis, Granulomatosis with Polyangitis (GPA), robbed Lucy of her hearing at the age of 17 and left her too scared to go out alone but Wilbur has given her the confidence to get back out into the world. 💙 StreetVet

A blood transfusion from a cat abandoned in a dog waste bin has saved the life of a kitten left at death's door by an infestation of fleas. 😰

11-month-old Persian cat Bertie (white) needed an immediate blood transfusion after being rushed to our Vets Now clinic in Gillingham.

With no stored supplies of cat blood available, a live transfusion was the only option. Our dedicated nurse, who had previously adopted Mr Hankey (black cat) when he was found abandoned, rushed home to bring him in for donation. Thankfully, his blood was a match! 🥰

A few weeks ago, Honey came to our Vets Now Belfast clinic as she was experiencing some abdominal pain. 😰

After thorough investigations, Honey underwent surgery to remove a portion of her bowel after it had perforated. Turns out, the culprit behind her abdominal pain was a sneaky squeaker toy she had swallowed, maybe some time ago! 😱 After a successful procedure to remove the toy, Honey's been bouncing back, and we're so glad to have helped her. 🙌❤️

Meet handsome Murphy! 🐾

Our Manchester Hospital team first met him at the age of two, when the cardiology team diagnosed him with a congenital heart condition. Despite facing challenges, including emergency chest surgery and later a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, Murphy's resilience shines through.

Now, at seven years old, he's always thrilled to see them during his visits as much as they love to see him. 💖 Nothing can dampen Murphy's spirit; he's an absolute superstar and a much-loved visitor to the hospital.

Did you know that some fruits can be a refreshing treat for your dog on warmer days? 🍓🍌✨

Dogs can enjoy some fruits, but others are highly toxic to our furry friends, including grapes. Here are a few tasty fruits dogs can have in moderation. 🐶

⚠️ Remember to remove all seeds, pits, skin and rind before feeding your dog.

Meet this gorgeous goose who was brought into our Vets Now Pet Emergency Hospital Glasgow by the SSPCA recently after being shot with a crossbow. 😢 With the skilled assistance of our out-of-hours team, Nicole, our lead out-of-hours vet, successfully removed the arrow in a highly tricky procedure, including safely anaesthetising the brave bird.

Thanks to their expertise and dedication, the goose has made an astounding recovery and has been happily discharged into SSPCA's care, which has launched inquiries with the police to find out how this happened.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Nicole and our fantastic team, including Nicola, pictured here, for their unwavering commitment to saving lives. ❤️

Poor Appa was discovered on the roadside, fighting for breath with a fractured pelvis, hip, and femur, alongside severe nerve damage. Tragically, this occurred just as he was settling into a loving new home with Adam, who had kindly adopted him. 🥺

Adam rushed to our Vets Now Pet Emergency Hospital Manchester, where Appa underwent urgent surgery, including the insertion of a metal plate to mend his crushed pelvis. Despite efforts, his left hind leg couldn't be saved, but that hasn't stopped Appa. To everyone's surprise, he is back running and climbing as fast on three legs as he did on four! 🐱

Check out these dog-friendly veggies, which are safe and packed with essential nutrients. They can be enjoyed as an occasional treat, perfectly complementing your furry friend's balanced diet. ❤️

Here's how to prepare them safely 🐾

1️⃣ Wash thoroughly️!
2️⃣ Cut into bite-sized pieces, making it easier for your pet to digest.
3️⃣ Cook when necessary. While veggies like peppers are fine raw, others, such as beets and squash, should be cooked to improve digestibility.
4️⃣ Avoid seasoning; plain and simple is best!

An 11-month-old American bulldog was rescued in a state of emaciation from a property in Gateshead last August. Described as "the thinnest dog she'd ever seen alive" by RSPCA inspector Kirsty Keogh-Laws, Nala, now renamed Penny, faced a long road to recovery. 😰

Thanks to the dedicated care and assistance provided by many, including our Vets Now Gateshead team, Penny has undergone a remarkable transformation and is now enjoying a vibrant life with her new owner, Beth.
