106 days and counting...

Adorable Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross, Creed, has been waiting patiently for a suitable home with a loving new family to appear, but so far, none have arrived ๐Ÿ’”

Full of bouncy energy and love, Creed is always up for a fun adventure or play time with his favourite people. He would prefer to be the only pet in the home, with a family that can provide plenty of mental and physical stimulation to keep this big chap busy and entertained! When play time is over, he enjoys nothing more than a snuggle on the sofa for a well-deserved nap.

Today is "Change a Pet's Life Day" and our wonderful Creed is hoping this might be his year. If you think you could be just what Creed is looking for, visit our website below to read his profile and submit an application. He's excited to hear from you! ๐Ÿ’™

It's National "Answer Your Cat's Question" Day! ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’™

And we have some beautiful felines who are very curious - they're asking why their forever family hasn't found them yet. Some come in pairs, like adorable Apple and Strudel, but that just means double the love!

Unfortunately we haven't been able to find an answer, but if you can satisfy our cats' curiosity and give them that perfect home they have been looking for, follow the link below to read more about them and apply!

Alone and completely matted, Jeremy barely had any human interaction for nine years. Living in a breeding facility in a concrete kennel with no windows, he was terrified. ๐Ÿ’”

Our foster carer, behaviour, and rehoming teams have worked incredibly hard with Jeremy to help him rebuild his trust in people.

Due to his lack of experience with interaction, Jeremy does not like being touched. He is seeking a patient owner who understands his needs and respects his space and boundaries to help him progress.

Could you provide Jeremy with the loving home he deserves? https://bit.ly/42iwa0q

Not every cat coming into our care is looking for a traditional home setting, which is why we carefully review every cat's needs and assess them thoroughly before their adoption journey begins. ๐Ÿ’™

Previously from a multi-pet household, Oreo found living with other cats very stressful and ended up spending most of his time outdoors, scavenging through bins and fending for himself.

Now used to living independently, Oreo is therefore looking for a rural home, such as a farm setting, with a minimal cat population. He's still sociable with people so would need indoor access too, as long as he's free to come and go as he pleases. Do you have a special home for a special cat like Oreo? ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4alNhk3

Meet the Team ๐Ÿ’™
Say hello to Eliza, the other half of our super Receptionist Duo. From being the friendly face you see when you visit the office, to the friendly voice on the end of the phone, Eliza is the first port of call for our clients. Between helping with admissions and rehoming, our critical pet food bank, and the crucial administrative tasks that keep our office running, Eliza is always on hand to support other members of the team - even taking on long drives to other centres, ensuring our pets are always where they need to be.

Eliza is an amazing part of our Blue Cross team and we cherish her dedication (and her sense of humour!)

Hamlet suffered an agonising broken jaw and severe body-wide bruising when he was hit by a car in London. ๐Ÿ’”

Kind witnesses to the collision spent more than an hour trying to catch the terrified boy, who was fleeing and hiding despite being in unimaginable pain.

Exhausted and struggling to move, they eventually managed to scoop Hamlet up and bring him to our animal hospital.

Our vets performed an operation to wire his jaw back in place, while broken teeth and bone were removed, and a feeding tube was fitted, as he was unable to eat.

The odds were stacked against Hamlet, but we saw glimmers of improvement each day, and he was placed in foster care so that he could recover in the comfort of a warm and loving home environment.

Because of your donations, we could give Hamlet round-the-clock care from our expert team. Not only is he no longer in pain, and can now eat on his own, but he is now in the arms of a loving family.

We know how difficult January can be, but if you can donate, you can help us give more pets like Hamlet a second chance. ๐Ÿ’™

As cute as a bumblebee outfit may look on your dog, non-functional costumes can be very stressful for them. Instead, if your dog needs to keep warm in winter, we recommend snazzy yet functional jumpers and coats, such as the ones modelled by our Blue Cross Sheffield dogs, Oskar and Rudi!

Coats designed specifically for dogs' body shapes to allow natural behaviours can be purchased from many pet stores, or you can purchase second hand coats and jumpers from Blue Cross Sheffield reception.

The important thing is to introduce them slowly to clothing (especially if they have never worn them before) and build up the time they are wearing the clothing using positive reinforcement. You can read more about costumes and clothing for dogs on our website:

If ever there was a photo to sum up this snuggly Caturday. ๐Ÿ’ค

As sweet as their name suggests, Apple and Strudel are a (very!) bonded pair looking for a new home together.

A little shy around youngsters, they could live with older children as the only pets in the household. Meet them ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4a7ZcSs

Buttercup was terrified after being abandoned on a stranger's doorstep. ๐Ÿ’” Underweight and showing signs of pain in her hind legs, she was brought to our animal hospital in Victoria.

While the x-rays of her back legs were inconclusive, we provided her with supportive treatment, rest, and pain relief. Gradually, she began to regain sensation in her hind legs.

Although we may never know the kind of life she had before, we can confidently say that Buttercup is now healthy, happy, and surrounded by love in her new home! ๐Ÿ’™

Weโ€™ve come across some small cages, but this one is among the smallest we've seen. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Here, you can see a store-bought enclosure for a hamster that we've taken in, compared to the average setup!

The ideal home for a hamster is a tank or aquarium, as it provides plenty of space, height, and opportunities for them to dig and explore.

If youโ€™re thinking about bringing a hamster into your home, we highly recommend following our advice to ensure you find the perfect-sized enclosure for your new friend!

Having been with his family as a much-loved pet since a puppy, when a baby came along, Wesley's behaviour changed and over time he became increasingly worried. Despite trying their best to work on this, after a few grabbing incidents with the toddler and another baby on the way, his family made the difficult decision that he would be happier elsewhere and brought him to us. โค

We often get asked why we don't rehome particular dogs with children and Wesley's story explains this well. The team knew it was imperative that he was rehomed to a home without young children where he could live life to the fullest. And after a short stay with us, he won the hearts of a lovely, older couple where he's enjoying the run of the house and garden.

Winston's story was so heartbreaking that many of us were in tears. ๐Ÿ’”

While we don't know much about his backstory, we do know that a passerby witnessed Winston being thrown into a river while trapped in a cat box by a group of kids. ๐Ÿ˜ข We can only imagine how terrified he must have been.

Initially too scared to eat, Winston took a while to come out of his shell, understandably nervous after his ordeal. Gradually, he understood that we meant him no harm, allowing us to provide the treatment he desperately needed for his flea infestation.

We are thrilled to share that Winston no longer has to endure the life he once knew. He is now happy and loved in a new home. ๐Ÿ’™

Meet Barry, a dog who is so terrified of fireworks that he refuses to go to the toilet. ๐Ÿ’”

Owned by one of our team, Barry is one of the many animals affected by fireworks, making celebrations like New Year's Eve very challenging.

Currently on behavioural medication, Barry's phobia is so severe that he has struggled to go for walks since Bonfire Night and now reacts fearfully to sounds like car doors slamming.

We urge you to put pets first and reconsider any plans to host or attend at-home fireworks displays. ๐ŸŽ‡

Tootsie is finally in a home for Christmas! Alone and vulnerable, Tootsie was struggling to survive on the streets of London.

Her situation took a turn for the worse when some children spotted her and tried to run her over with their bikes. ๐Ÿ’”

Crying in fear, she was rescued and brought into our care, where she began her recovery.

She was soon moved to our Southampton rehoming centre where she began displaying nervous and aggressive behaviour due to the trauma she had experienced.

The team spent several weeks gently building Tootsieโ€™s confidence, and eventually, she relaxed, after realising she was in a safe space.

Tootsie's outlook on life changed dramatically, and after 53 days with us, she finally found a loving home where she felt safe. ๐Ÿ’™

Monty's experience serves as a warning to be extra vigilant with pets during the Christmas season. โš ๏ธ

Clearly, Monty wanted to join in on the Christmas festivities when he broke into a hamper and consumed some boozy fruitcake.

Luckily, his owner noticed quickly and rushed him to our animal hospital in Victoria.

The rich fruitcake contained sherry-soaked sultanas, nuts, cherries, and brandy.

Sultanas and raisins are toxic to cats and dogs, and even small amounts can lead to severe kidney failure. While alcohol can be fatal to pets.

Thankfully, Monty made a full recovery, but it's a reminder that the festive season holds many hidden dangers for pets. ๐ŸŽ„

Terrified and undernourished, three puppies were desperately searching for food when they found themselves in our care. It was obvious that the siblings had seen and experienced very little of the world, given how shutdown they were and the fear they displayed when encountering many everyday sights and sounds.

The team knew they had a real job on their hands. As well as building their physical strength, the team had to start training and socialisation from scratch. Thanks to the emergency resources available, they were able to help the pups come out of their shells and learn to trust. Without your donations, this wouldn't be possible.

Found freezing, limp and lifeless inside a carrier by a kind passerby, by the time she came through our hospital doors, the team feared this poor cat was already dead - until she let out a tiny cry for help. ๐Ÿ˜ฟ

Named Finsbury after the London park she was found in on a cold and wet day, she was hanging onto life by a thread. Rushed into intensive care, she had collapsed and tests confirmed she was critically ill with hypothermia and a respiratory infection. She was also covered in fleas that had left her with fur loss and scabs all over her body.

To give her a fighting chance of survival, she was given much needed warmth and medication and miraculously, she began to recover. Once stable enough, she was transferred to a foster home where she enjoyed lapping up all of the attention. Now thriving in a loving home, her previous trauma is thankfully a distant memory. Just look at her journey!

Finsbury made it to us in the nick of time, and thanks to the emergency care available, we were able to save her life. Without your donations, this wouldn't be possible. Introducing the most festively named of kitties - Mr Figgy Pudding Paws! ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ…

So shy when he came into our care, Figgy would make a nest with his blankets and hide away from anyone that came near his pen. Following some inappropriate toileting in his former home, he was suffering from urinary crystals โ€“ a potentially fatal condition if left untreated.

But after a course of medication, Figgy started to feel brighter and his natural curiosity overcame his anxiety. Cautiously he introduced himself to the Blue Cross team and hasn't looked back since! Could you make his and welcome him into your home? ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4ixDzie

At just four weeks old, Emma was not where she should have been at Christmas - close to her mum in a warm, loving home. Instead, she was abandoned in a box and left on a doorstep. ๐Ÿ’”

Covered in fleas and showing signs of cat flu, she was terrified. Fortunately, the homeowner made the right decision to bring her into our care.

Luckily, Emma was a fighter, responded well to the treatment, and found a loving home just in time for Christmas.

We rely on your support to carry out our work helping vulnerable pets like Emma.
