Are you looking to have some very social, interactive and confident rabbits join your family? Then look no further! Moose and Panda, or their son Snoopy, could be the buns for you!

We cannot begin to tell you just how obsessed we are with these three! From day one, they have all been incredibly confident and social with us.

3-year-old husbun and wife, Moose and Panda, are completely unflappable, nothing seems to faze them! They are both people and food motivated, while also very happy to go about their day should we not be around…and their son…well! Clearly their confidence runs in the family for Snoopy is an absolute delight!

They are always so happy to see us, following us around as we clean their enclosures or taking treats from our hands. If you sit in with them, they’ll come and climb into your lap and are happy to receive strokes.

They have shown a great amount of intelligence in enjoying various enrichment and are very engaging.

Moose is a keen enthusiast for puzzle toys and feeders. He enjoys throwing his stacking cups into their air in search of his tasty nuggets or pushing balls around with his nose. Panda is perhaps a bit too clever, because she prefers to watch Moose have his fun, wait for him to solve the puzzle and then help herself to the treats!

When they’re not busy playing, eating or enjoying enrichment activities, you can find them snuggled up together having a well-earned snooze. They are never too far away from each other.

Snoopy has shown a great deal of his dad’s inquisitive nature and has thoroughly enjoyed his puzzle toys as well. At a year old, he is a young and curious rabbit who loves to spend time with you and have a chat– he sploots out on the floor, ears up and listening. We really do wonder if he understands what we’re saying to him!

(Don’t tell the other buns, but they are possibly the friendliest, most interactive and social buns we’ve had this year! We adore them! Whoever gets these lovely buns will be very lucky indeed!)

Moose and Panda are very bonded, so are looking for a home together. But Snoopy is currently on his own, and while he enjoys our company, rabbits are social species and need the companionship of other buns. So he is looking for a nice lady bun to bond with (don’t worry, he’s neutered!)

All three of them are very confident and we have found them to be totally unfazed by noise and movement. They would be well suited to homes with children.

Ducky was alone and curled up in a bush when one of our nurses spotted him on her walk home. 💔 After being taken in and cared for, it was clear that all Ducky wanted was to be loved. Because after being introduced to a cuddly crocodile, he hasn't left its side since.

After a full health check, Ducky and his crocodile were adopted by a loving family. 💙

We, along with Blue Cross UK, are urging owners of healthy horses who are struggling to take care of them and meet their basic needs to consider finding good homes for their horses in the summer months rather than waiting until winter when conditions are harsher. 🐴☀

The recent findings from a Cost of Living Survey have highlighted the financial strain that many horse owners are experiencing. Rehoming in the summer, when the days are longer and weather is better, allows new owners to bond with their horses more effectively rather than the winter which presents the additional challenges of dark, cold nights, increased mud, and the need for more feed and forage if horses are stabled, making horse care more demanding.

We know this isn’t an easy decision for any horse owner to have to make, that’s why we’re here to help you do what’s best for you and your horse.

When Evy was purchased online, it quickly became clear that the tiny puppy was very sick. 💔

Rushed into our care in the nick of time, she was diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease called parvovirus, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea, leading to rapid dehydration and serious complications.

Unscrupulous breeders often raise puppies in diabolical conditions that put the health of litters at grave risk. While highly contagious, parvovirus is an easily preventable condition through vaccination.

Thankfully, Evy was one of the lucky ones. With 24/7 care, including intravenous fluids, antibiotics and pain relief, she started to improve and after some time recovering, was soon a happy, healthy pup once again!

When our cats in the cattery are missing the outside world, we bring it to them! 🍃

Like Binx, who's had a longer stay than normal in our cattery while we treated him for ringworm. Due to the highly contagious nature of ringworm to other cats as well as humans, poor Binx had to stay in his pen for several weeks while the team wore boiler suits to administer medication several times a day.

While he got better, the team were dedicated to making sure he still had plenty of enrichment with a foraging box so he could still enjoy nature! Now he's been given the all clear, he's back on his paws and desperate to find a new home so he can get out exploring again 👉 https://bit.ly/4dh5wHD

Life in cold, hard kennels had left ex-racing greyhound Lucian with a large pressure sore on one of his legs. 💔

Brought to us when he retired from racing, our team made sure he got the vet care he needed, while working hard on his training and socialisation. Wary and unused to loving human touch, Lucian needed to go back to basics to learn how to be a pet.

He blossomed in our care and after a few weeks of sleeping on soft beds, the abscess on his leg soon disappeared. It wasn't long before he captured the heart of a special new owner and now Lucian will never have to sleep on concrete again.

We urge dog owners to reconsider exercising their flat-faced dogs on hot days like today! 📢

Each year, we see many flat-faced breeds, like Trojan here, suffering from severe heatstroke.

Despite sitting in the shade with plenty of water, he arrived with a high temperature of 41.3°C. 🌡️

Thankfully, his concerned owner acted quickly and came straight to us, and Trojan was able to fully recover. But not all dogs are so lucky.

Flat-faced dogs cannot regulate their temperature as easily as other dogs because of their flatter noses.

Meet the closest siblings we've ever seen! 💙 Found in someone's garden, Chase and Status were straying and in a bad way until they arrived in our care.

After separating them to give Chase the necessary attention, we quickly realised just how strong their bond was, as they would cry for each other during his recovery.

It's time for another meet the team and today we're introducing Sophie, our phenomenal Adoptions Coordinator!

We are very lucky to have had Sophie as part of the team for three years now! Originally, Sophie started out at a Pet Welfare Assistant, and didn’t waste any time in becoming an invaluable member of the team. Then, at the start of this year she stepped into the role of Adoptions Coordinator and hasn’t looked back.

Sophie shoulders one of the hardest roles in the building. While you might expect that the adoptions side of a pet’s rehoming journey is the more straight forward, fun and rewarding bit of it, it’s actually incredibly difficult. The reward is most definitely there, but it is a heavy responsibility, ensuring each pet is matched and rehomed to the best possible homes for their needs.

We have endless faith in her abilities, and it is because of her, and the support of the whole team, that we’ve seen so many pets into loving homes this year! Regardless of how much she’s got on, Sophie always goes the extra mile.
She has taken orphaned kittens’ home and hand reared them, fostered various other animals, and is the proud cat-mum to Uno the mischievous one-eyed cat who believes he’s a dog!

We couldn’t do it without her, she’s an integral part of the team!

What an emotional moment for our Bromsgrove team, who have finally said their farewells to TJ, who has been in care with us and RSPCA (England & Wales) for 272 days!

After a few health issues, we're happy to say he's finally found a loving new family and can now enjoy all the comforts and adventures that every cat should. 💙

Can you believe that the gorgeous Lucky has been with us for nearly three months?

You may recall this senior sweetheart from posts some weeks back looking for a home, and while we had some amazing applicants, none of them were quite the right fit for what she was looking for…

And as the days have gone by, the applications have stopped coming in and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of light at the end of the tunnel anymore. Lucky really is the unluckiest dog!

Lucky came into our care after being abandoned at our London Victoria Hospital. After being his loyal companion for 11 years he took her in for an appointment and didn’t come back. We do not have all the details as to why, after all this time, he felt he could no longer look after her…but she was beyond devastated to have been parted from him.

Sadly, she did not cope well in kennels, so she was driven up from London to go into care with one of our amazing foster families, with two young children. While she went through a period of grieving and confusion…she has grown to be the perfect family companion.

Rest assured that this 11-year-old lass has a heart as big as her smile, and despite her years, her spirit is as vibrant as ever. After a rocky start, Lucky has thrived under the loving care of her foster family and she's ready to bring the joy and companionship she has brought them, into the lives of her new family.

She doesn’t want much. She enjoys the simple pleasures in life, slow walks through the park and playing with toys. She's also a fan of cozy naps in the sun. Lucky does have arthritis in her back legs, so she’s not one for long walks and adventures, and will need ongoing medication to assist with this, but we are more than happy to discuss her needs with potential families.

Lucky is looking for a loving home to live out the rest of her golden years, as the only pet in the home, with short regular walks, lots of tennis balls and where someone is around most of the time.

Sarah and her family joined us as foster carers last year, originally intending to foster rabbits, they soon fell in love with dogs! As with all our fosters, they have been an invaluable support to the work we do here at the Blue Cross and are a shining example of how rewarding fostering can be for families with young children!

“I had a dream that we were fostering rabbits, so looked for a local rescue to support. We liked the vibe of the Blue Cross, saw that you could foster rabbits, so signed up to foster! We met Helen (Foster Coordinator), and the staff were warm hearted, kind and very friendly.
No rabbits were available for us to foster so we took on some guinea pigs. We enjoyed learning and caring for them and we appreciated the care and support the Blue Cross gave us throughout. So, we decided to try fostering dogs!
We really liked the Blue Cross’s approach, and I feel it’s important for children to be around animals to learn about caring for different kinds of living creatures. It’s an important opportunity” - Sarah

Sarah, her partner and two children have been amazing fosters and while they had intended to foster for much longer, but they fell head over heels in love with one of the puppies they were fostering. They are taking some time out to settle their pup, Pixie, in and will be returning to foster with us again in future!

We love a good before and after! How amazing does Max look after his visit to the Blingy Dogs dog groomer?

Elizabeth very kindly donated two hours of her time to get Max scrubbed up and looking fantastic to help him get adopted. She did an amazing job, and Max was feeling so much better afterward! His foster carer rewarded him with a trip to the seaside where he had a wonderful time.

7-year-old Max, who is a lovely and social Shih Tzu, is hopeful that with his smart new look he'll find a loving home in no time!

Cat Microchipping Event At Blue Cross Sheffield: 23rd June 2024

As of the start of this week, the 10th June 2024, it became compulsory for all pet cats in England to be microchipped. For cat owners or keepers (the person who the cat normally resides with) this means that:

- Any owned cat (over the age of 20 weeks) must have been microchipped with the owner's contact details registered on a compliant database by this date.

- If you are found to not have your cat microchipped by this date, you will have 21 days to comply, and non-compliance may lead to a fine of up to £500.

While the law was announced in March 2023, giving cat owners over a year to microchip their cats, we are still encountering countless cats without chips. This is due to many reasons, with a big one being the cost of living crisis!

To help cat owners across Sheffield, we are holding a Cat Microchipping Event on the 23rd June between 10am – 4pm (by appointment) for just a £10 donation! No consult fee or additional costs involved.
