Happily Homed - One Year On! ๐Ÿ’™

The lovely Bagheera was rehomed through our Home Direct service exactly a year ago today. His new family sent us some photos and a lovely update about his first year of adventures with her, and we couldn't resist sharing!

"Bagheera is very settled, he comes and goes throughout the day but doesn't venture outside too far. I have a tracker on his collar so can see his stomping ground! He is such a mamma's boy! Every morning he walks me to my car and when I'm home he's always waiting for me at the front of the house and jumps up for a cuddle as soon as we walk through the door."

"Every evening he's up on my knee on the sofa and he is my little shadow around the house. He follows me everywhere."

If you are looking to offer a cat a home then please check out our available pets on the website - https://www.bluecross.org.uk/rehome/cat
Or if you have adopted a pet from us, please feel free to share their adventures with us in the comments โค

Meet our unluckiest resident, Jeremy. ๐Ÿ’” Despite Jeremy's heartbreaking past, Jeremy still hasn't found their perfect match.

We believe that his need for personal space and not being comfortable with being touched might be putting people off.

This , please help Jeremy find the love they deserve! ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/42iwa0q

Alone and completely matted, Jeremy barely had any human interaction for nine years. Living in a breeding facility in a concrete kennel with no windows, he was terrified. ๐Ÿ’”

Our foster carer, behaviour, and rehoming teams have worked incredibly hard with Jeremy to help him rebuild his trust in people.

Due to his lack of experience with interaction, Jeremy does not like being touched. He is seeking a patient owner who understands his needs and respects his space and boundaries to help him progress.

Could you provide Jeremy with the loving home he deserves? https://bit.ly/42iwa0q

Spotted crying and starving on an estate, his finder made the right decision bringing Benedict into our care. ๐Ÿ’”

He quickly earned a reputation as a chatterbox with had an unusual head tilt, but upon investigation, we realised that he was trying to tell us that he had an inner ear infection.

Our team provided the necessary treatment, but the infection left him with a permanent head tilt.

After monitoring his mobility and continuing his treatment, he was finally ready for what he had always dreamed of, a home.

And he found just that! ๐Ÿ’™

Tiny was found abandoned in the waiting room, in an extremely bad state. ๐Ÿ’” With a ruptured eye that was out of its socket, we can only imagine the pain this poor girl endured.

Our team at our Victoria animal hospital worked tirelessly to help her. Unfortunately, her injury had been left untreated for too long, and her eye had to be removed.

Fortunately, Tiny recovered remarkably well. In gratitude, she showered our staff with love and cuddles.

This sweet girl went through so much, but the outcome was worthwhile as she is is now in the loving arms of her new owner.๐Ÿ’™

Halo hopes that her being deaf isn't putting off people from adopting her. ๐Ÿ˜ข With very few applications, we need your help!

This affectionate and sweet girl is looking for a patient owner who has the time to continue her training through hand signals. Halo may also need some help with toilet training, but sheโ€™s made great progress so far!

Halo enjoys her walks, her ball, and cuddling up on the sofa, so we have no doubt she would make a fantastic companion.

Deaf dogs make wonderful pets and they learn just like any other dog does. ๐Ÿ’™

Help us share the good news that Halo has been waiting for. ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4jSSMeu

What better way to welcome February, than celebrating Golden Retriever Day! ๐Ÿพ

These adorable pups are staff members' dogs, and whether they are posing or snoozing, I think we can agree they are always photogenic!

Sadly not all breeds get their own national celebration, but you can still make their day even more special by giving them a new home - you can view all of our pets available for adoption on our website below:

If you have or know a Goldie you'd love to celebrate, let us know in the comments! ๐Ÿ’™

Tiny Waffle was just a few weeks old when she was found collapsed in the road. ๐Ÿ’”

With a low heart rate, Waffle was taken to a nearby veterinary charity, where she was revived and placed in an incubator.

Waffle later came to us for rehabilitation, but life can be tough for a kitten raised alone without a mother or siblings to learn from.

Fortunately, Waffle had a lucky break when she was united with a trio of abandoned kittens who immediately welcomed her into their clan.

Waffle and her adopted siblings, looked so similar that it was hard to tell them apart.

Before long, Waffle experienced the sibling bond she had been missing, and all of them were welcomed into loving new homes. ๐Ÿ˜ป

Did you know most of our pets aren't kept at our centres?

Blue Cross has a dedicated network of amazing foster carers who help us look after many pets in need by giving them a home environment whilst we look for a new home for them. However, this change can still be incredibly stressful for some pets. This why we offer Home Direct.

This great scheme allows us to help you rehome your pet, providing all of the support and advice you need, whilst your pet stays in a familiar environment. They remain with you until we find them a new home.

When Bramble came to us from a private vets, anaemic, underweight and bleeding from the mouth, we feared the worst. ๐Ÿ’”

However, an ultrasound showed a large foreign body and exploratory surgery revealed it was actually an impacted fur ball, caused from overgrooming due to a severe flea allergy. Once the fleas were dealt with and the hair ball was removed, Bramble could slowly heal and was soon relaxing in a new home.

Bramble was lucky to make it to us in time and although his was a severe case, vigilance around flea control meant this could have all been avoided. Check out our website for help and advice on treating fleas ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4a4embl

Itโ€™s unclear why these pet rabbits were left alone in their hutch after their owner moved away. ๐Ÿ’”

The tiny bunnies, just a few days old, were discovered along with their mum by chance when the new homeowner arrived.

We are grateful that the new homeowner moved in when they did; otherwise, the rabbits would likely not have survived.

After receiving plenty of veterinary care from our Thirsk rehoming team and a safe space to grow with one of our foster carers, these rabbits have finally found the loving home they deserve. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿน Meet Teddy and Bear - who are each looking for their permanent homes ๐Ÿน

Teddy is a sweet, gentle soul who has never experienced the joy of having a guinea pig friend. He's longing for a companion to share lifeโ€™s little moments with ๐Ÿ’›

Then there's Bear, a bit of a character who never goes anywhere without his comfort pillow. Youโ€™ll often find him snuggled up with his favourite cushion or wheeking along to his favourite sounds - usually the fridge door and the crinkle of a vegetable packet!

Both of these adorable lads deserve a chance to thrive with a new family. If you have a lonely female guinea pig or herd of females and the extra space, please consider our lovely Teddy or Bear. You can apply for them via their links below.

106 days and counting...

Adorable Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross, Creed, has been waiting patiently for a suitable home with a loving new family to appear, but so far, none have arrived ๐Ÿ’”

Full of bouncy energy and love, Creed is always up for a fun adventure or play time with his favourite people. He would prefer to be the only pet in the home, with a family that can provide plenty of mental and physical stimulation to keep this big chap busy and entertained! When play time is over, he enjoys nothing more than a snuggle on the sofa for a well-deserved nap.

Today is "Change a Pet's Life Day" and our wonderful Creed is hoping this might be his year. If you think you could be just what Creed is looking for, visit our website below to read his profile and submit an application. He's excited to hear from you! ๐Ÿ’™

Not every cat coming into our care is looking for a traditional home setting, which is why we carefully review every cat's needs and assess them thoroughly before their adoption journey begins. ๐Ÿ’™

Previously from a multi-pet household, Oreo found living with other cats very stressful and ended up spending most of his time outdoors, scavenging through bins and fending for himself.

Now used to living independently, Oreo is therefore looking for a rural home, such as a farm setting, with a minimal cat population. He's still sociable with people so would need indoor access too, as long as he's free to come and go as he pleases. Do you have a special home for a special cat like Oreo? ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4alNhk3

Meet the Team ๐Ÿ’™
Say hello to Eliza, the other half of our super Receptionist Duo. From being the friendly face you see when you visit the office, to the friendly voice on the end of the phone, Eliza is the first port of call for our clients. Between helping with admissions and rehoming, our critical pet food bank, and the crucial administrative tasks that keep our office running, Eliza is always on hand to support other members of the team - even taking on long drives to other centres, ensuring our pets are always where they need to be.

Eliza is an amazing part of our Blue Cross team and we cherish her dedication (and her sense of humour!)

Hamlet suffered an agonising broken jaw and severe body-wide bruising when he was hit by a car in London. ๐Ÿ’”

Kind witnesses to the collision spent more than an hour trying to catch the terrified boy, who was fleeing and hiding despite being in unimaginable pain.

Exhausted and struggling to move, they eventually managed to scoop Hamlet up and bring him to our animal hospital.

Our vets performed an operation to wire his jaw back in place, while broken teeth and bone were removed, and a feeding tube was fitted, as he was unable to eat.

The odds were stacked against Hamlet, but we saw glimmers of improvement each day, and he was placed in foster care so that he could recover in the comfort of a warm and loving home environment.

Because of your donations, we could give Hamlet round-the-clock care from our expert team. Not only is he no longer in pain, and can now eat on his own, but he is now in the arms of a loving family.

We know how difficult January can be, but if you can donate, you can help us give more pets like Hamlet a second chance. ๐Ÿ’™

As cute as a bumblebee outfit may look on your dog, non-functional costumes can be very stressful for them. Instead, if your dog needs to keep warm in winter, we recommend snazzy yet functional jumpers and coats, such as the ones modelled by our Blue Cross Sheffield dogs, Oskar and Rudi!

Coats designed specifically for dogs' body shapes to allow natural behaviours can be purchased from many pet stores, or you can purchase second hand coats and jumpers from Blue Cross Sheffield reception.

The important thing is to introduce them slowly to clothing (especially if they have never worn them before) and build up the time they are wearing the clothing using positive reinforcement. You can read more about costumes and clothing for dogs on our website:

Buttercup was terrified after being abandoned on a stranger's doorstep. ๐Ÿ’” Underweight and showing signs of pain in her hind legs, she was brought to our animal hospital in Victoria.

While the x-rays of her back legs were inconclusive, we provided her with supportive treatment, rest, and pain relief. Gradually, she began to regain sensation in her hind legs.

Although we may never know the kind of life she had before, we can confidently say that Buttercup is now healthy, happy, and surrounded by love in her new home! ๐Ÿ’™

Weโ€™ve come across some small cages, but this one is among the smallest we've seen. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Here, you can see a store-bought enclosure for a hamster that we've taken in, compared to the average setup!

The ideal home for a hamster is a tank or aquarium, as it provides plenty of space, height, and opportunities for them to dig and explore.

If youโ€™re thinking about bringing a hamster into your home, we highly recommend following our advice to ensure you find the perfect-sized enclosure for your new friend!

Having been with his family as a much-loved pet since a puppy, when a baby came along, Wesley's behaviour changed and over time he became increasingly worried. Despite trying their best to work on this, after a few grabbing incidents with the toddler and another baby on the way, his family made the difficult decision that he would be happier elsewhere and brought him to us. โค

We often get asked why we don't rehome particular dogs with children and Wesley's story explains this well. The team knew it was imperative that he was rehomed to a home without young children where he could live life to the fullest. And after a short stay with us, he won the hearts of a lovely, older couple where he's enjoying the run of the house and garden.

Winston's story was so heartbreaking that many of us were in tears. ๐Ÿ’”

While we don't know much about his backstory, we do know that a passerby witnessed Winston being thrown into a river while trapped in a cat box by a group of kids. ๐Ÿ˜ข We can only imagine how terrified he must have been.

Initially too scared to eat, Winston took a while to come out of his shell, understandably nervous after his ordeal. Gradually, he understood that we meant him no harm, allowing us to provide the treatment he desperately needed for his flea infestation.

We are thrilled to share that Winston no longer has to endure the life he once knew. He is now happy and loved in a new home. ๐Ÿ’™

Meet Barry, a dog who is so terrified of fireworks that he refuses to go to the toilet. ๐Ÿ’”

Owned by one of our team, Barry is one of the many animals affected by fireworks, making celebrations like New Year's Eve very challenging.

Currently on behavioural medication, Barry's phobia is so severe that he has struggled to go for walks since Bonfire Night and now reacts fearfully to sounds like car doors slamming.

We urge you to put pets first and reconsider any plans to host or attend at-home fireworks displays. ๐ŸŽ‡
