Picture in today's Times ( 13 Feb 2025 ) with misleading caption. Some nice Ayres and Lines apparently coming up for auction. I can only see one that might be modern - the one with new looking ears top right but this may well be a restoration. Can't expect newspapers to get much right.

Marcus - so hard getting two coats of overpaint off ( black and bright blue under it ) but enough original left to try and preserve it. And many old but sound repairs obvious too. New ears, some new paint on the bare areas, lots of varnish to preserve the surface, new hair and tack. This type of restoration won't suit anyone wanting a smart horse but he seems to have found a new home anyway.

I found some suitable hair for this old Lines horse. Her head had been broken off in the past and although it seemed firmly fixed, I was cautious nailing on the hair and bridle. The paint is original and we decided not to touch it except for a tiny bit on her head. She's happily back with her owners now and ready for the grandchildren to ride.
