"Although I usually start each day with a plan and a clear idea of what needs to be done,
things can change quickly. Whether it’s a phone call about an emergency on farm or someone
coming through the door with something unexpected, each day can certainly be interesting."
In this month's newsletter, Anne-Marie shares an interesting insight into her role as TB Testing and Daisy Service Administrator.

Georgina and Lily from Trouw nutrition recently gave a talk to Youngstock Club members of Shepton Vets and Friars Moor Livestock Health. Several different areas of calf feeding were discussed including milk powder concentrations, timing of feeding, target intake in litres, weaning ages, gradual weaning and target calf starter intakes. Farmer engagement was good and lots of questions were asked, with important discussions being had. Further topics of discussion included automatic feeders, numbers per teat on automatic feeders and pen stocking density in calf sheds.🐄

The Youngstock Club monitors calf health on farm by monitoring several parameters and benchmarking them. This includes of rates of pneumonia and calf diarrhoea, total proteins to assess colostrum uptake, calf mortality, daily liveweight gain and antibiotic use. Other areas investigated include housing, ventilation assessments and colostrum quality/bacteriology.🐮

There are several meetings throughout the year to give farmers a chance to chat about their own personal experiences and to learn from each other. Clients on the service will also get a discount on vet tech disbudding.

If you are interested in joining our Youngstock Club, please contact our office on 01749 341 761.
