✨In this month's newsletter, Vet Elly has produced a case report on a postmortem she recently performed.✨
"On post-mortem exam, she was found to have an extensive peritonitis, focusing on the
front of her abdomen (image a). She had abscesses in the walls of her stomach, and a sharp two inch wire (image b) was found protruding from inside her stomach through into her abdomen. She had a magnet in her stomach (image c), but this was completely full of similar sharp wires and metal filings."
📰To read Elly's full case report, take a look at our July newsletter on our website - https://sheptonvets.com/farm/farm-newsletters-and-articles/

🐾Is your dog over 25kg and between 1 and 8 years old?🐾
Did you know you can sign them up to donate blood safely at our Wells practice with Pet Blood Bank UK and they could save the lives of up to 4 other dogs each time they donate? See full criteria for eligibility. 🩸
We understand that for some owners there can be a worry of risk to their beloved pups, but the process is stress free to your dog and they are well and truly loved and fussed during the whole process.(With lots of treats on offer too!)
Zeus(Yellow lab pictured) came in for his first donation during our recent session in May and his owner said "Zeus loves visiting Wells Vets and that certainly hasn't changed after his visit for his pet blood bank donation. The whole team were so encouraging and caring and he didn't have an ounce of stress during the whole process, with a waggy tail(stump) throughout. Pet blood bank UK is an incredible service, saving dogs lives daily by supplying vets with blood when needed. I can't thank the team enough for the work they do and I really encourage anyone with an eligible dog to take them to a donation session, it could be your dog that needs that crucial blood supply one day."🐶

✨🐾CHARITY DOG WALK🐾✨
On Sunday, 13th July, the team and their dogs are taking part in a sponsored 7.5-mile dog walk from our Shepton branch to our Wells branch, raising money for PAWS-GIST.
This charity is important to our team, as one of our own vet nurses, Cara, received fantastic support from them after an unexpected diagnosis.
To read more about Cara's story and how the incredible team at PAWS-GIST helped her, follow the link to our JustGiving page where you can also donate and sponsor the team. Last weekend, a few members of the team set up a stand at the History of Dairy Farming Day hosted by two of our clients - the Hutton family and the Miles family, brought together by The Farming History Society. 🚜🌾🐄
Vet Paddy gave a talk about a vets role in dairy farming and how this has developed over the years (including our equipment!).🩺There was a great turnout of over 200 people, with money being raised for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance🚁

A few weeks ago, we teamed up with Friars Moor Youngstock Club for a joint on-farm discussion meeting about the weaning to service period in dairy heifers.🐄
We talked about rumen development, growth rates, nutrition requirements and how we can meet these at pasture, as well as endoparasite control. 🪰
✨Interested in joining our Youngstock Club?✨
Our members benefit from regular calf health monitoring and informative discussion groups that promote knowledge sharing and support continuous improvement in heifer rearing.
For more information and to sign up, get in touch with the practice or speak to your routine vet🐮

⚾️Last week, the Small Animal and Farm Animal departments came together for a charity rounders match and BBQ in aid of PAWS-GIST — a charity very close to our hearts, following the care and support they provided to our own veterinary nurse, Cara.⚾️

To raise further funds as a team, we’ll be taking part in a 🐾Sponsored Charity Dog Walk🐾 next month — and you can get involved by sponsoring us via our JustGiving page, linked below. It’s quick and easy to donate, and completely secure, with all proceeds going directly to the charity. You can even leave a message with your donation to wish the team good luck!

💜Please consider donating if you’re able — your support will help PAWS-GIST, a charity run by specialist doctors on a volunteer basis, to continue their life-changing and life-saving work. Your donation will help fund clinics, provide support for patients and their families, and contribute to vital research into PAWS-GIST cancer.💜
