A great day out on Friday at Yeo Valley HQ at Savills “How can SFI support your livestock business?" event.
Bibby and Anna discussed the benefits herbal leys can bring to livestock and shared the things to look out for when grazing cover crops and herbs leys.
Bloat, oxalate poisoning, clover infertility and iodine deficiencies are all possible, but these can be avoided when grazing is managed appropriately.
Look out for a full write up of the event in our February newsletter. 👀

We recently had a batch of goat kids come into the practice for disbudding. Unlike in calves, disbudding goat kids can only be done by qualified veterinary surgeons.
We do this under general anaesthesia because kids have very thin skulls and are at risk of toxic local anaesthetic overdose.
The horn buds grow extremely quickly therefore we recommend disbudding them between 2 and 7 days to have the best chance of removing all the horn producing tissue effectively.

Taking steps to enhance cow mobility.

Join us on Wednesday the 15th January 2025 at 10:45am until 2:15pm. At Wells Hill Bottom Farm, Wells, Somerset BA5 3EZ

This event, part of the Confident Strides series, will help you take steps to enhance your herd’s mobility while cows are housed and at the same time boost profits and public perception.

Lameness is expensive, requires additional time and treatment costs, and leads to lower yields and a shorter productive cow lifespan.

This event offers practical, actionable ideas you can implement on your farm to improve cow welfare, even when time and resources are tight.
You’ll hear from mobility mentor our very own, Rosie Lyle, who will share best practices to identify and apply the right solutions for your cows and learn how progress has been made at Wells Hill Bottom Farm.
